I find them rather misleading. Take the cybertruck test as example. He claims it was done at 45F where it was 38-45F which reduces range by 20% compared to EPA 68-86F spec Then he did it at 700ft instead of 4000ft for the rivian and f150. Reduction of 20% resistance due to thinner air at higher elevation Then he compares it to EPA and claims Tesla never makes it claimed range. This is so misleading as it is not claimed range but EPA estimate based on tests at EPA specification. Then his test are done at 70MPH not 48MPH average EPA speed. Fine if you like to do a test at 70MPH but don't compare it to the given EPA range But anyway, I don't beleive this is because he is a bit dumb and don't know how to do a test properly. Regarding the taking up 2 spots problem, Ford owners should keep this in mind when visiting a V3 Tesla Supercharger and if they have one that is positioned for front pull in at the edge, which I've seen at several locations, use that spot if available, as it's the one spot where you can probably safely park and charge without taking up more than 1 parking spot (you'll be poking your butt out of the spot by quite a bit, but if it's at the edge and doesn't block traffic, it's the best option).

Thanks Kyle, Ford and Tesla!! This is a day we've been waiting on ever since the announcement by Ford. Happy travels on the road trip. Looking forward to riding along.
Kyle, what happens if you park with the parking space line in the middle of the truck instead of parking in between the lines of the parking space? Will the cable reach then? This would alleviate the fact that Ford vehicles block two chargers when they charge at a Supercharger. They could just repaint the lane lines then and you would never have chargers go wasted because a CCS1 vehicle was blocking them.
The cables at those existing stations are only JUST long enough to reach the way it's now parked. New Supercharger stations will have longer cables and/or pull-through parking. I expect some growing pains as this transitions, but in a year or so, I'd expect all this to be sorted out.
If you park how Kyle did, then say another ford comes in they can park to the left spot and do the same thing. It’s not like every vehicle that shows up needs to occupy two spots.
My concern as well. My understanding is the P2 and XC40 don’t have the hardware to do ISO 1811 or whatever it’s called. We’re going to need to either activate in the app, or Tesla will need to auth via MAC addreess
I am a Canadian Tesla owner for the past 2 years and have never had a charging issue of any kind with Tesla’s super charger, EA Canada or The Circuit Electric (flo) chargers. I see all this as a win win for everyone in the long term, the more EV’S charge at Tesla superchargers the more Tesla will install Tesla superchargers even in remote areas with less population. Thanks Kyle for another great video.
I was completely entertained by your enthusiasm and excitement over this new day in charging. As someone who will soon be leaving my Leaf of five years behind and going with a CCS car, this is definitely a game changer.
I gotta say... I talked to a tech in Georgia who was updating a V3 Supercharger. He said (at the end of January) that the only state left was Alabama and it was update a component inside the V3s to work with the adapter. All V3s made since summer 2023 already had the components and by March 1st the chargers would be updated and all V3s would work with this adapter. That's what the tech told me at the end of January in Madison, Georgia at a Supercharger.
Awesome news for all non-Tesla EV owners. Tesla has to change the length of the charge cables or else, it's going to cause some issues when cars will take 2 parking spots.
That time from plug to "blue light/charging" was amazingly fast. So happy for this video, for the adaptor and Ford and Tesla partnering on this....LIFE CHANGING!!!!
Unfortunately, the NACS standard only applies to the plug, it also needs to dictate the location of the charging port. Having an eV take up 2 spots on a busy location is going to cause trouble.
Yeah. It's a real shame the CCS Consortium didn't make "let's decide on a standard port location" the second order of business after "Who wants coffee" In their first meeting in.... (from memory) 2010? . Instead it seems to have been a case of "just use the same location as the Fuel port on the cars you're converting" . smh
Using the pull in stall that is taken by someone too lazy to back in most times. Or pull across several at the end. Enduring nasty looks until the person looks around to see you're towing. Or unhook. All fun. "Need pull through charging" is my comment whenever they ask for feedback. Gas stations figured this out decades ago. @@vladimus9749
@@vladimus9749 If that was even slightly likely to be true, Cybertruck would have a charge port in the front. So, that is a no. To charge while towing, you unhitch, or use pull-through charging stalls.
@@geirmyrvagnes8718 Unhitching is a non starter for anyone who tows regularly. How common are Tesla pull through stalls? Are there some at each station?
Maybe this is great day for other non-Tesla owners, but for us Tesla owners this isn't a good day, especially when all slow speed charging vehicles start to occupy 2 or more spots. So now we have options to wait free spot on V3 or to go occupied V2 and charge on painfully 75kw or less. This will increase travel times a lot. I am hoping that hire charging prices for other non-Tesla vehicles will offset that problem a little bit.
Honestly if there's going to be more non Tesla's on the road then make it so that Tesla's pay 50% or less of the normal cost and Non Tesla's pay 150% or more to keep tesla owners happy, this would make it more fair for the ones that take up 2 spots or just kick them off if there's many Tesla's going to that specific chargers, this would also incentivize more Tesla's rather then NONS since driving in a tesla would be cheaper, and no one can complain since broke ass legacy makers can't make their own chargers, they say its a benefit for our customers but this is only a benefit for ford honestly, I'm glad that our super charger here in Cambridge Ontario are locked still to NONS
When Rivian gains access, will those customers be able to use the Ford adaptor ? I doubt it. This adapter likely contains a microchip that confirms that the vehicle is a Ford and and that the adapter genuine Ford issued adapter. There may also be a chance that the adaptor may identify if the vehicle has been tagged as stolen.
Great for Ford owners ! When is GM going do it! Also why not have a length of cable incorporated between plugs to provide correct parking in the spaces?

As a Tesla owner who roadtrips 3-4 times a month, I am delighted to see other EVs able to use the Supercharger network and hasten the EV transition. However, I am concerned that the Tesla routing software will be showing open dispensers at a location that are, in fact, being blocked by non-Teslas who take up 2 dispensers (from a Tesla perspective). I hope Tesla will somehow figure a way to show that 2 dispensers are in use when a Ford or Rivian or Mercedes rolls up and plugs in "backwards". I live down the street from the Tesla v4 dispenser in Columbia, SC that a couple of UA-camrs have featured and see how this problem will eventually go away with the new universal dispenser design. However, I am sadly considering going back to ICE for a couple of years if I start to run into this problem repeatedly over the next few months.
Blocking 2 bays is an issue in Europe as there’s no standard determining which side of the vehicle to put the charge socket. Tesla chargers are more exposed as their cables are relatively short, even the newer ones. It’s common to come across a VW or similar taking up two bays. However Europeans generally do not need unnecessary adapters as there was a snowball’s chance in hell that the EU would adopt Tesla’s charging standard and hence Tesla uses type 2 in Europe.
It would be very helpful if non Tesla EVs would just pick the right side charger stalls every time, Tesla pick the left side then there's less "wasted" stall for all.
With different gas stations the cost of fuel is usually within a few pennies per gallon from one another. Tesla usually has a very competitive rate. It will be interesting to see if Tesla sparks a charging cost war. I can easily see several charging companies going out of business or at least consolidating.
Yesterday, I found a Tesla super charger station off I-20, in Texas in a very rural area, 5 minutes from where I work. i was shocked and excited. I personal have never owned, driven or rode in an EV but, would buy one, IF/When the chargers are available everywhere and reliable. I think the manufactures that are switching to Tesla super chargers made the right decision. Masses of People will not buy EV's, regardless of what DC mandates, until they can charge them on the road, everywhere, and I'm one of those people. Charging stations have to be on every corner, just like gas powered vehicle station or EV adoption will fail. I support electric vehicles and hope, that this change to Tesla charges works! This channel has been a great place to learn all things EV and I enjoy the content...Keep up the good work, i looking forward to continue learning & hopefully, in the not to distant future I'll be an EV owner, but it wont be a Tesla, lol!
This definitely increases my opportunity to upgrade, from low emission Honda truck and skipping the Model y to using the Lightning for all electric landscaping💪
Your excitement made me excited. As a Tesla owner, I have no concerns with sharing the network. That being said, I live in Connecticut, and there is rarely congestion at the super chargers here.
Thanks so much for bringing us such up-to-date, informative information about the EV world and charging. You are definitely helping us move toward cleaner, energy options, my providing straightforward, up-to-date information.👍
If you’re coming through St. Louis on your road trip, then the Midwest Lightning Owners Club would be more than happy to meet and see the adapter… my XLT is getting the Plug and Charge software update later tonight.
This seems to confirm what I suspected - that MagicDock wasn’t just for interoperability testing, it was also to test the adapter to make sure it would hold up to repeated charging cycles. Seems this adapter is essentially the same as the one permanently affixed to the MagicDock dispensers.
Kyle. Tesla’s website is updating chargers open to NACS. Looks like none in Fort Collins but many in Denver area and beyond. When Rivian delivers your adapter as promised this month, you can then be open to many new charging options!
We have a Tesla supercharger station that was completed in the last year or so in a big parking lot near a Walmart and a few restaurants. I don’t know if it was in anticipation on the Cybertruck or non-Teslas using the chargers, but it has two options, one that I have never seen before. One charger is set at the end of the island with open parking slots beyond it making it basically a pull through. The other set up is the really odd one with the charger on its own little island set at 90 deg to the other chargers and sticking out about 3 feet alongside the parking slots on it side which would make connecting your Lightning a breeze.
My experience as a european Tesla owner using superchargers open to all ev’s is that this will cause chaos at busy superchargers with non-tesla vehicles blocking chargers left and right.
Tesla has far more vehicles than the sum total of all other brands. Since the "reduced" market share in 2023 was (only) 56%, they actually increased the overall percentage.
The charging network is the main reason to choose Tesla in the US over better equipped, more reliable EVs. If this "benefit" goes away, so will Tesla's larket share. Hopefully they're not that short sighted.
Ford is doing really well, and the Mach-E is a freaking awesome car. I've not had one problem with it, and just got another update yesterday, meaning they have the OTA update strategy down. Solid stuff from Ford.
I can’t tell you how excited I am for this. Going from the bay area to Tahoe. The charging infrastructure is not great unless you own a Tesla. This is game changing for me.
Tesla's supercharging network is great, been using it in Europe for almost a year now when going on roadtrips with my Volvo. Never seen a single unit that doesn't work and the process is super fast: open the app, choose 'charge your electric vehicle', select the number of the charging station, plug in and it starts charging in a few seconds.
A new supercharger station near where I work has two chargers on the sides of parking spaces and I can back into one spot, like a Tesla, or pull forward into the other, and not take up an extra spot. Hopefully more of the new ones will do this.
As a Model Y owner, I am happy to see more EVs on the road, but I will be dreading the day when I get to a suppercharger with full stalls filled and a long line of EVs waiting.
This is why Tesla is only opening a part of their network while continuing to add more. The great news is, with all the new EVs on the network… the more money Tesla has to expand. Win, win.
It’s not win win. Supercharger network will not be positive margin for years to come. This is really a bailout for legacy auto because they can’t see past their own toes. But it is a net win for EV adoption in general.
Thanks for the notice! My adapter is officially on order! I can't wait as I have found myself not going places I want to because charging has been so frustrating. I am ready to roll!!....Edited: I just got an email that estimated ship date is July 24 :(. Boy I hope that changes!
just reserved mine from Ford on their site for my lightning. it's free for existing lightning owners currently. Unfortunately, it says estimated ship date is August 2024 right now.... Mostly charge at home though, so not really an issue. But will open up many new chargers around me when i get it!
Great video Kyle Conner and so was the podcast. Game changing stuff from Ford and for Ford owners. Does this NACS adapter locks in place? In an event you leave it unattended while charging, so it doesn’t get nicked. Also Rivian is next for Supercharger access along with maybe GM, Volvo, and Polestar spring of 2024.⚡️
Not at all. It's actually "More funding for the charging network" 👍👍 . Anyway, Tesla will be monitoring use and expanding at locations they see becoming hotspots before it ever becomes an issue. (What's the percentage of Tesla vehicles on US roads compared to other brands? Quite high?) . Stop looking for "tender spots", they've all been anticipated.
It's definitely nice for current owners. I'm just looking forward to when everyone will have the NACS plug in general as everything will be much more useful and we'll have more options with EV purchases. The Tesla charging network really is what sells more Teslas than anything.
Not particularly, If you buy one just for the network then there's something wrong with that person, the network is a bonus but everything the car has and support from outside is what makes them great like the OTA updates, and don't say that ford does it too because their OTA is way less impactful then tesla, you cant really say its even a feature its that sad.
Am I happy for you guys to get things straighten up with chargers in US of A. Here in Europe with CCS its so amazing that you can charge nearly anywhere! I´d miss that in the US.
Getting more excited to look at Rivian. Have had 5 Tesla cars. The Model X has been problematic but our favorite. Now we can look at the R1S and R1T more seriously
@@Techridr I have a demo drive tomorrow. Pretty excited. I've been looking at used quad motor and prices are looking better. Lease option for dual motor is also good. We'll keep the Model Y Performance and Model X Plaid. Being this will be our 3rd car, it may not be driven a lot so I dunno. But being able to plug in to Tesla network... so excited. Maybe I should have a "My other car is a Tesla" license plate frame so I don't get harassed at charging station if I get a Rivian? haha
FYI: I am sure you will learn this on your cross-country trip, but the 'Charging' view on the main center screen tells you current charging speeds. The Ford Pass app also tells you current charging speeds.
The companion podcast is great, but I have one question for you regarding packaging. As a Tesla owner I am concerned non-Tesla vehicles will be blocking a lot of charger spots because the Ford port is on the wrong side of the car. The question is does the Ford packaging discuss blocking chargers to the left and suggest their owners charge using stalls starting on the right of a line of chargers? Thank you for this great video.

Plug and Charge is huge!
I hope Volvo/Polestar also support it from the get go as well...
My concern as well. My understanding is the P2 and XC40 don’t have the hardware to do ISO 1811 or whatever it’s called. We’re going to need to either activate in the app, or Tesla will need to auth via MAC addreess
A big honor for you. Congratulations
Fantastic work Ford.... i really appreciate what this will do to lightning drivers
I was completely entertained by your enthusiasm and excitement over this new day in charging. As someone who will soon be leaving my Leaf of five years behind and going with a CCS car, this is definitely a game changer.
Billions of dollars in EV investment, staff, factories, marketing but young Kyle is the spokesman for all of it. Wild
Government stole most of it, test to instal a charger
Other manufacture's have to move their charge port to the ideal location that way there will be problems with cars taking 2 spots.
(from memory) 2010?
.
Instead it seems to have been a case of "just use the same location as the Fuel port on the cars you're converting"
.
smh
I think Tesla will be moving their charge port to the front. How are you supposed to charge a tesla while towing?
Love this as I just bought myself a Lightning. Thank you Kyle for your amazing work and thank you Ford for showing leadership.
There may also be a chance that the adaptor may identify if the vehicle has been tagged as stolen.
does the Tesla app update to show the chargers are in use when non Teslas are charging at them as well?
I’m so stoked for you, Kyle! Definitely feeling the excitement of this moment!
Man i drive by there every day for work 10 times a day 😂
Great for Ford owners ! When is GM going do it! Also why not have a length of cable incorporated between plugs to provide correct parking in the spaces?
If you are not in the financial market space right now, you are making a huge mistake. I understand that it could be due to ignorance, but if you want to make your money work for you... prevent inflation
Thanks for continuing updates I'd rather trade the crypto market as it's more profitable. I make a good amount of money per week even though I barely trade myself.

You trade also?, I tried trading after watching some videos on UA-cam but still keep making losses, how do you trade on your own?
No I don't trade on my own anymore, I always required help and assistance
From my personal financial advisor
Monumental day. Props to ford for seeing the light and being the first setting up the collaboration with Tesla.
So freaking cool Kyle! You preached for NACS & today it happens. Congrats & thank you for lobbying for years!
It’s all fun and games until you are waiting in line and looking at some fords taking two spots each.
Agree
It would be very helpful if non Tesla EVs would just pick the right side charger stalls every time, Tesla pick the left side then there's less "wasted" stall for all.
@@ultrastoat3298and double the charge time of a Tesla.
With different gas stations the cost of fuel is usually within a few pennies per gallon from one another. Tesla usually has a very competitive rate. It will be interesting to see if Tesla sparks a charging cost war. I can easily see several charging companies going out of business or at least consolidating.
I think we need to get Kyle a hoodie with a tux silkscreened on the front for events like this.
i've been waiting for this to be made public for the rest of the world, ty Kyle
hopefully not too long before it's not just "Ford"
It's only relevant for North America that used NACS.
Non-Teslas have been charging in other markets using CCS2 for ages.
While I appreciate Kyle's enthusiasm but goodness, he took almost 10 minutes of non stop talking before finally started using the charger!
dude has a talent for extending 3-minute content into a 1-hour video
I skip a lot of videos by him and others for this reason. They could all learn a lesson in editing by watching 60 Minutes.
Hope to see you test the A2Z NACS to CCS adapter on your Lightening next.
This definitely increases my opportunity to upgrade, from low emission Honda truck and skipping the Model y to using the Lightning for all electric landscaping💪
Incredible Kyle. You are becoming the "go to" guy for so many EV industry issues. Keep it up!
So happy for you Kyle! Thanks for all you do ! Looking forward to other vehicles supporting NACS
So awesome to be the first! Here in Europe we use Tesla's app, but Plug & Charge is even spiffier!
They got in before that "February 2024" deadline!
just barely lol
They were lucky it was a leap year :)
They sure did. Applaud Ford for getting it done.
Your excitement made me excited. As a Tesla owner, I have no concerns with sharing the network. That being said, I live in Connecticut, and there is rarely congestion at the super chargers here.
In New Jersey… with a Lightning… and a NACS adapter… where’s Tom? 😂😂😂
Tom was busy with his electric snowblower and missed Ford's call, so they called Kyle 😂
@@Techridr😂
He’ll be posting tonight. He was coming back from Sweden today! Bill P
I'm so glad someone answered that. I was asking the same question the whole video. lol@@billpitman9053
Thanks so much for bringing us such up-to-date, informative information about the EV world and charging. You are definitely helping us move toward cleaner, energy options, my providing straightforward, up-to-date information.👍
Great to see that Ford Lightning taking up 2 spaces for charging. Very helpful......
Congrats and safe travels! Looking forward to your road trip updates. ⚡️🎉
I love Kyle's exuberance! Thanks for doing these videos and making them entertaining.
Good job Kyle and congrats on being the first podcaster to get to do this. Will be following your travels!
My experience as a european Tesla owner using superchargers open to all ev’s is that this will cause chaos at busy superchargers with non-tesla vehicles blocking chargers left and right.
Temporary friction, but it will also force Tesla to roll out more V4s as the utility of the chargers goes up.
Tesla has far more vehicles than the sum total of all other brands.
Since the "reduced" market share in 2023 was (only) 56%, they actually increased the overall percentage.
The tiny charging cable that Tesla saved a few bucks on turns out to be a bad idea now.
The charging network is the main reason to choose Tesla in the US over better equipped, more reliable EVs. If this "benefit" goes away, so will Tesla's larket share. Hopefully they're not that short sighted.
@@vladimus9749lol
Hogging up 2 Supercharger stalls...shame on you, Kyle! 😂
Ford is doing really well, and the Mach-E is a freaking awesome car. I've not had one problem with it, and just got another update yesterday, meaning they have the OTA update strategy down. Solid stuff from Ford.
Kyle, can you please try out the A2Z NACS extension cable? It's 6 feet, rated for 250kw.
I can’t tell you how excited I am for this. Going from the bay area to Tahoe. The charging infrastructure is not great unless you own a Tesla. This is game changing for me.
Skip to 6:30 to see the box opening. Everything before that is worthless.
I just parked my Lightning ⚡ ⚡ because I got my Silverado EV with 450 mi of range. This is awesome
Awesome! Thank you so much Kyle and team :-)
Got my prototype today too in Cleveland! Pumped! Road trip this weekend!
@@ultrastoat3298Supercharger network is already profitable for Tesla. What type of cociane are doing? You get your facts from a cereal box?
@@StarInfinite00 lol it is not. 😂
Wait till you see 20 chargers with 10 spots not usable because people taking 2 spots.
I think all you needed to know about the Tesla SC network is how flipping fast the car started charging. It was the chargers all along
I love Kyle’s through review and context in EV’s
I like everything about this. Keep it up, Kyle.
That little gap in the end of the adapter is just the signature Tesla finish quality 😂
So excited just reserved mine for the Lightning! It says shipping by July, hopefully sooner ha.
Who could have foreseen 12 years ago that Ford would one day approach Tesla, pleading for access to a "startup's" fueling stations?
History indeed.
Let’s go!! I just looked at the map for Canada and it looks like the supercharger access is still super limited. I hope they open them up soon!
I have heard the VW ID4 is charging perfectly at the MagicDoc. I just got mine so I'll be using EA when I can but love the availability of Tesla!
Definitely a big step to fix all the charging issues. Hopefully they bring more to more obscure places.
Great video Kyle Conner and so was the podcast. Game changing stuff from Ford and for Ford owners.
Does this NACS adapter locks in place? In an event you leave it unattended while charging, so it doesn’t get nicked.
Also Rivian is next for Supercharger access along with maybe GM, Volvo, and Polestar spring of 2024.⚡️
I can hear the Tesla people now - "There goes the neighborhood".
I'd guess Tesla people will get cranky in a few months when there's no room at a supercharger location and it's all non Tesla's charging 😅
From what I have been reading on social media… Tesla owners are mostly ok with this. They want Tesla to be the standard.
@@89five3five plus Tesla owners get the lower price on their charges anyway, so it won't be a big deal for them.
Not at all.
It's actually "More funding for the charging network" 👍👍
.
Anyway, Tesla will be monitoring use and expanding at locations they see becoming hotspots before it ever becomes an issue.
(What's the percentage of Tesla vehicles on US roads compared to other brands? Quite high?)
.
Stop looking for "tender spots", they've all been anticipated.
Right off the bat i don't like that the port location will jam up 1 bay. I bought a YLR for the Tesla charging network. I am pissed.
Glad to see so many more electron delivery options available to the non tesla folks… I can’t wait to get my adapter 😁
So Exciting! Goosebumps! Plug & charge! Amazing 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Getting more excited to look at Rivian. Have had 5 Tesla cars. The Model X has been problematic but our favorite. Now we can look at the R1S and R1T more seriously
Ditto on R1T for me
@@Techridr I have a demo drive tomorrow. Pretty excited. I've been looking at used quad motor and prices are looking better. Lease option for dual motor is also good. We'll keep the Model Y Performance and Model X Plaid. Being this will be our 3rd car, it may not be driven a lot so I dunno. But being able to plug in to Tesla network... so excited. Maybe I should have a
"My other car is a Tesla" license plate frame so I don't get harassed at charging station if I get a Rivian? haha
FYI: I am sure you will learn this on your cross-country trip, but the 'Charging' view on the main center screen tells you current charging speeds. The Ford Pass app also tells you current charging speeds.
Will be keeping an eye on this, means i am no longer stuck with tesla just for a great charging experience.
I’ll be testing today as well but in West Coast so a couple hours after you!
