Great podcast and great chemistry and balance between you and your wife! Side note: I love that you teach even in your short videos. I am looking to change insurance companies because of your ranking of the top insurance companies you and your firm has interacted with. If you ever teach, do a master class. You do such a great job in your shorts explaining the stuff that "ticks you off," but you also provide good information to the general public that is easily digestible! It's also nice to see your passion for your clients and how you manage family life outside the office!
Love the podcast and the long form content. You are both fun to listen to and I love hearing what you have to share. Mike, you are a fantastic story teller, meaning, you are able to put together facts in details in way that is easy to understand and entertaining to boot! I can see why you are amazing in the courtroom!
Oh heck Ashley, don’t feel bad about not parking in the garage. You are not the only one!! My daughter in law and I share a car. She is not the best judge of depth and with an older car did whack the side of the garage. New car has all the sensors buzzers etc and like Mike, I roll my eyes at her and say USE the sensors to park it. Nope, she still isn’t comfortable and I am of the same mindset that scraping the car isn’t worth the risk. We have a compromise, she parks in there when the other car is not in the garage and I repark it before he gets home. 😅 everyone is happy and the car (and garage) are both damage free. Compromise!
He really should listen to her instead of telling her that she should not be uncomfortable. People always do that and it never helps, because it's not that I feel uncomfortable because the thought "do not feel uncomfortable" never occurred to me.
Here's the issue about the sensors, though. I too have TWO cars with all the bells and whistles and one of them is sensor-happy whenever I slowly pull out of the garage. It's an issue because I've grown accustomed to not listening to them anymore and for that reason, I pulled out one day and forgot that my Eldest was vacationing for a week at my house and I bumped into her car enough to exchange some paint. Now I feel like an idiot and a bad parent because I Homor Simpsoned her car.
I have no idea how but law videos crept into my feed.. probably had to do with my disgust at the Paul brothers and their shenanigans which led to legal troubles. I started watching more and was fascinated.. then watched as much of the Karen Read trial I could and since that have started following a few LawTubers. Most egregious no cameras recently has to be the Delphi murders where the trial judge, Gull, did not allow cameras in her court room(or any other electronic device). This led to a complete circus for the few media seats and truly made following the case very difficult. Which given many of her rulings and the fact she tried to toss the defense team, and got overruled, may have been her goal all along.
Honest question: How do you manage everything? As an aspiring lawyer, one of the main drawbacks I hear about pursuing law is the impossibility of balancing family, hobbies, and being a lawyer; yet, it feels like you're living proof of that not being true. Do you set specific dates or hours to divide work, hobbies, and family?
I understand what you're saying and agree to a point. However the victims of a lot of these cases probably don't want their business on video. Heck in a lot of states juvenile cases aren't even allowed to be put online. Everything still has to be paper filed in person so that it doesn't accidentally get leaked.
I really wish you would do a segment teaching the constitution. I learned more from you tube than in school abt it and you word things so much better than most. And love this podcast
Jamie Raskin is a guest on Bryan Tyler Cohen’s UA-camChannel and gives constitutional lessons - they are really good, regardless of the side of the aisle you’re on, IMO.
@MikeRafiLawyer I don't care what they say. It's America, I don't always have to agree with you to respect you. I do have differing opinions abt guns from what I can tell (and I may be totally wrong cuz I only see glimpses cuz these videos are only so long) but it does not mean you can't explain the constitution which I believe more people need a better understanding of.
@@borabora4480 To be fair, the Founding Fathers could have used a few more words and a judicious use of punctuation to make that particular amendment crystal clear. Holy shit. This podcast is a like a sharp speedbump into the video and a cliff at the other side. Throughout it seems like a lot of potholes with all the sidetracks. Just now this reminds me of my DnD sessions. Go slay the dragon across the street.
They televised the whole Young Thug trial. It was very educational to watch. I think law students will still be debating 100 years from now whether Lil Woody was the dumbest witness whose butt ever sat in the stand or if he was a genius. (Frankly, I lean toward genius.) Seriously, everyone should go watch his testimony; he gives a masterclass about answering only what is asked and offering up no more. All non-juvenile court cases or testimony should be televised, in my opinion.
I suspected the mortal enemy (Douchy McDouche) was from the rape case. I'm so glad that was confirmed in this video. Married to the Law is becoming my favourite series from Rafi!
I love the peek behind the curtain of an attorney - had you carpooled with opposing counsel, would that have potentially opened you both up to some sort of impropriety allegations?
Mike ranting about not being able to record a court case; mentions the Simpson Trial. Me: Mike, I think that's the reason why judges don't like cameras in the court. The Simpson Trial kind of turned into a media circus all because the judge allowed live streaming of the case. I think that influenced the judge, the lawyers, and the jury. It became a performance, not a trial.
So your mortal enemy.. that is just repugnant. Im all for defense lawyers, everyone/everything deserves a proper defense but FFS man. This a horrible situation and to bring multiple people in to watch someone in a case like that have to relive it leaves me speechless. To quote Wayne from Letterkenny... Fuck-A-Duck.
I bet that incident can't be used to lower credibility in other court cases, however maybe it would sometimes be a tad beneficial. I bet other judges would not allow that it that specific circumstance.
Hey man, I live in winter park (Orlando metro area) and live about 20 min from the universal parks, do you want me to check? Also did you check the card statement yet Mike😂
These are irrationally amazing to watch. I’m hooked, but i think it’s the your BM’s push back. She has no business to be sooo effortlessly running circles around you.
RE: your rape victim. I am not doubting the other atty being a jerk....but if you victim can't handle a deposition with 6 people how is she going to handle a trial with a dozen jurors and a court room full of people? I think I would have framed it as thanking the jerk for bring the extra people to give the victim practice of telling the story to a group. The strength of your case (ie the value) is based on her ability to testify to a jury.

@ so true but there needs to be more transparency in CPS cases especially - there is some fuckery - hearsay as evidence. It’s a delicate balance.
