15 years ago I attended a few seminars held by Guru Dan Inasanto was lucky enough he came over to the UK 3 times, and he told lots of stories about Bruce during the downtimes he said that Bruce was incredibly fast and had amazing timing as well.
@@paksaoify Indeed, not as fast as Bruce was though, but his knowledge of the arts and regional differences is very impressive. He used to train Delta Force operators in the USA.
To think that Jackie is one of the last living legends that knew Bruce personally. Guys this is a time in our history we're we are alive and during the time of some great people. Once they are gone these videos become history.
I watched my first Bruce Lee movie in the '90s, as a newlywed; husband asked me to watch with him. I said okay. And then -- WOW!! :-o I never could've imagined ANY human being could move like that. :-o Bruce was not only lightning fast, but he was also as graceful and agile as a cat. Amazing.
I'm so glad you had the opportunity to find the common human joy in that. His gift to us, showing our beauty and potentiality, should never be forgotten.
Sammo, Jackie & Yuen Biao all came up from the same school of arts I believe. All incredible artists and still doing it now! More energy than people a third their age.
Bruce Lee had super human speed, because he trained NONE STOP. And I'm gonna keep saying it, because people don't seem to understand, he didn't lift weight, he trained martial arts. So when you see all these guys who go to the gym and are big that means nothing, because you never had to lift weights if you practiced martial arts as much as humanly possible. He was that person, he was the guy who never stopped practicing, and never stopped revising. That's what made him the best. He was always thinking about it, always trying to find new ways to improve.
but he did do calisthenics... he developed power apart from the natural power and speed gained from his art. he always tried to improve his body as well as his technique.
Except Bruce Lee totally did lift weights. Read a book about him, or the Tao of JKD (his book). He actually hurt his back doing Good Mornings with a barbell. He used to read books with one hand while doing bicep curls in the other hand. He had a version of a Smith machine made by a friend.
Like everyone says....Mr. Lee was way ahead of his time....human endurance, speed that kills, toughness like water, and cunning like shadows coming at you.....knowledge where he never stopped learning.....incredible speciman.....I wish I had a couple of ounces of his training and habits....I would be a changed and improved human being!!!!
Although he had exceptional speed.... his acuracy and timing were super human as well and still these attributes take second place to his philosophy and evolution of the martial arts in general. His philosophy of a formless form is what became MMA. He realised most movements of martial arts were just flourish and a dance of sorts that was meaningless in a real fight. He was a dancing champion as a youth and also got into fights LOL. As a result of seeing the limits of fixed styles later in life he studied many different martial arts besides wing chun... judo, karate, ju juitsu, boxing. Even fencing with it's dance like footwork which inspired his Jeet kune do lead leg stance with leading jab/faint. Bruce invented MMA by absorbing the techniques that actually work from the various martial arts creating his own unique style. His philosophy was learn the techniques from all combat forms that work for you and that you can employ and that every martial artist will develop their own style in time rather than just emulating a teacher. He was so versed in the all the moves of his competitors he would react with an intercepting counter attack and so quickly that opponents could not be first to strike. This is taking the form (of the teapot) that the opponent presents and IS the essence of The Way of the Intercepting Fist (Jeet Kune Do) "Be like water my friend". his training allowed him to react with muscle memory without thinking about it. "It hit's all by itself" "the word 'I' does not exist". very philosophical and now we have the UFC! yay.
Not sure about the dance champion not. Cha cha is part of a five dance category, and to become a dance champion requires as much work as to become a martial arts champion. Maybe he won a wee regional cha cha competition. Anyway had he taken a different route in his martial arts career, I'm sure he could have become a world champion competitor or even boxer. Who knows, had he done so he may have avoided the events that killed him, and may be alive (and still famous) today!
Thank you for this brilliant explanation of his philosophy and teachings I'm struggling to understand what exactly he meant in his books and as student of all Martial Arts 🙏🏾
@@drw_predator i think the biggest take away is learn the techniques that are simple and effective in real fighting and because every student is different they will have strengths and weaknesses. focus on training the things you can do well. for example I cant do a reverse roundhouse because of my joints so i do other kicks instead. train what you can do and train it well so that when it happens it hits all by itself. Muscle memory. This is what he meant by not having a style and that unless you are copying someone like an impersonator your movements and execution will be its own expression and that's what puts the ART in martial arts. all of Bruce Lees flares and cries are his personal Art his unique style. That is mimicked very poorly by other actors and martial artists. he recognized each person has their own style hence Jeet Kune Do is a style without a style formless form adapt to your environment like water in a teapot. you inject the style into a form.
Bruce Lee was the greatest martial artist. But while many people focus on his martial arts mastery, a lot of people forget that he was also a philosopher, and first and foremost he was a family man. His children and his wife were first in his life. But he was also a friend a mentor and just one of the guys. And, Bruce was so smart that if you had a problem chances are he had the solution. R.I.P. Lee Jun-fan.
I heard about stories where he'd be filming a fight scene and the camera man would complain that he was moving so fast that the camera couldn't catch his moves.
Used to watch Martial Law with the fam. Samo was great. Also all the Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee movies. They are all supernatural. Bruce Lee’s poster has been on my wall in the various houses I’ve moved to since I was 10. I’m 33 now and married. Still got his poster up.
YOu can tell Bruce Lee knows how to fight just by watching him although his fights are choreographed. It's the way he moves and his persona is like that of a streetfighter. He broke tradition with his style of martial arts. You can tell his American roots had an influence on him which subsequently influenced generations of fighters and millions of fans.
Please, someone has to be serious about carrying the torch of Jackie Chan's legacy. I understand no one is going to do stunts like this man except maybe skateboarders and pro wrestlers who film their stunts and injuries to this day. But hopefully a martial artist can continue the tradition of Jackie Chan's style before "wire fu" becomes a global standard. I wish all you stunt artists good luck, good fortune and most of all good health in fast recovery. Be well and THANK YOU JACKIE, SAMO and YUEN BIAO.
What? Did Chuck die without us knowing? He also appeared in a film with Bruce, but yes Sammo and Jackie ARE legendary... Bruce is a Legend for those Legends!!
Jackie right, human is human. Beuce Lee really fast doesn’t mean we can’t see his movement, we still can. But our brain can’t keep up what our eyes catched. You saw his fast punch coming but you don’t realize he already land 3 punch on your mouth.
It came down to genes. Bruce lee had super fast muscle fibre twitches which are quite rare. But some boxers probably have them too. The stand out ones are Roy jones jr and floyd maymather jr in their youth and ryan garcia.
Lightning Fast...As Muhammad Ali said one time about himself, He could turn off the Lights in his Bedroom & Be in the Bed Before the Room gets Dark!!!- That would DEFINITELY apply to Lee as Well!!!
Chuck Norris also trained with Bruce and worked with him on film. Later, Chuck had Sammo guest on Walker, Texas Ranger, and that appearance led to Sammo getting his own show, which deserved to run longer than it did.
Most of the acrobatics you see in Lee's movies were done by his stunt double as Lee couldn't do them because of his back issues. Even here with Sammo Hung it is Lee plus his double doing the fight scenes. The famous scene where Bob Wall gets kicked while grabbing Lee's foot is not Lee but again his stunt double. Lee could do those things previously but his back issues forced him to use a stunt double named Yuen Wah.
Must have been a pretty bothersome situation for Lee. I think he had a major accident at some point. Did the back issues originate from that or had these another cause?
@@lorddaro7771 Bruce Lee injured his back in 1970 due to overtraining without a proper warm up. He felt a snap in his back and the result was damage to his sacral nerve. The doctors could not undo it and Lee was told he would not be able to train again. But Lee went on anyway but it came at a cost. And he was not able to perform certain things any longer hence the stunt double.
@@Will-tn8kq many fans like to believe it was the secret fight that caused his back injury, rather than something as simple as an injury while working out. Many Lee fans are gullible. LOL!
bruce lee learned some tai chi style as a young kid from his father before moving on and learning different other martial art styles. in tai chi there is something like fa jin, a kind of explosive move. it grows from your center and the force comes out in a symmetrical way. he must have understood this at a young age and tried to implement that knowledge in every style that he learned. and probably mixed it with other kind of body mechanics like the movement of the whip where you do create a wave that travels from inside to the outside. that very analytic thinking got him to that fast moves. it is the extreme slow movement that leads to basic understanding of static forces, where you develop the movement in a symmetry of forces and on the other side fast movements where forces can travel as a wave and can be amplified from inside to the outside every time when you move the force in a different direction. not ending as an old grandpa with learning tai chi at the end of life but starting with it at a very young age gave him some knowledge that shaped his whole martial art journey. his fast movements came from that deep understanding of body mechanics. zhan zhuang and slow movements, symmetry through chan si gong, explosive movements like fa jin until the application of moving waves of forces like a whip

But let's accept that the jackie and yuen biao acrobatic movements are in another level.
No he didn't. Lee was very much an advocate of weight training and incorporated it into his regimen until he seriously injured his lower back and had to restrict himself. He utilized both free weights as well as machines.
Poor Yuen Biao...he never gets any love. He was in a lot of movies with Jackie and Sammo, like Wheels on Meals and Dragons Forever (My absolute favorite Jackie Chan movie). He had some amazing martial arts movies of his own like Prodigal Son, Righting Wrongs and Eastern Condors (Yuen does one of the best looking kicks ever put to film, in a airplane hanger near the end of that movie)...The 80s and 90s gave us the best martial arts film. With the filming of the green hornet the director asked bruce to slow his kicks and such down a notch because the frame rate of the camera wasnt fast enough to capture his stuff...Nobody had ever, never this request before or after that moment.
He did well, reached the actual limit of human ability possibly in his prime, was very quick and was very powerful for his size it would be foolish for a person to lower their guard against him in a bout even if they were a heavyweight.
He definitely helped inspire a lot of people but he would lose in a fight vs even much less trained larger opponents for sure. Skill only gets one so far. I have done BJJ to learn the basics for takedowns mostly and / avoiding and mostly do/ did Muay Thai type training/ brawling boxing with many years of weight training and at 210 pounds 5’9 and pretty solid body would destroy Bruce lee pretty easily. I enjoy Bruce lee and even inspired me in some ways when younger but it gets old thinking he was a great fighter. Yes vs 14 year old kids and small men sure but he wouldn’t last 10 seconds vs a heavier opponent unless he just runs away the whole fight and it ends in a draw or he walks away because once he gets grabbed or punched it’s over guaranteed. People always think I sound arrogant or over confident but it’s just physics and willpower in some is much more than he had and Bruce lee was an actor first. Bruse was so fast they needed to slow the recording film by a great degree . Because it appears like his leg or arms are invisible in some fight scenes. This brought some new challenges to filming Bruce's fight scenes!
I think bruce achieved these speeds by tensing up his muscles, building up his adrenelin, then releasing all his energy all at once. I noticed In his fights he used to move his head quickly from left to right or right to left to disorientate his opponents just before he hits them. Very clever tactics.

Guru Dan is fast also.

Sammo, Jackie & Yuen Biao all came up from the same school of arts I believe. All incredible artists and still doing it now! More energy than people a third their age.
Yes. The Peking school of opera
@@spartanical Yeah. Don't need weights for resistance training. Isotonic, isokinetic and isometric exercise.
I think that affected something inside his body. Not enough rest or no rest at all. Body burnt out.
@@posthrdcore could be, they didn't have the medical technology back then to make a definitive diagnosis.
Except Bruce Lee totally did lift weights. Read a book about him, or the Tao of JKD (his book). He actually hurt his back doing Good Mornings with a barbell. He used to read books with one hand while doing bicep curls in the other hand. He had a version of a Smith machine made by a friend.
The Sammo Hung fight was the opening ENTER THE DRAGON scene, but was actually shot last, which is why Bruce was much thinner.
*Bruce Lee was a Legend globally - sending love from Africa- no Global Legend can ever surpass him* 🌍 LEGENDARY

Simply the best.
R.I.P. Bruce
Knowing all this it saddens me whenever I meet someone who doesn't respect Bruce Lee
Thank you for this brilliant explanation of his philosophy and teachings
I'm struggling to understand what exactly he meant in his books and as student of all Martial Arts 🙏🏾
Bruce Lee also defined what the bodybuilding world values as being lean for speed.
"Martial Law" Sammo, and of course Jackie, both Legends in their own right
God bless Bruce Lee 🙏
Bruce Lee was the greatest martial artist. But while many people focus on his martial arts mastery, a lot of people forget that he was also a philosopher, and first and foremost he was a family man. His children and his wife were first in his life. But he was also a friend a mentor and just one of the guys. And, Bruce was so smart that if you had a problem chances are he had the solution. R.I.P. Lee Jun-fan.
He was also a champion dancer
Not sure about the family man part. Wasn't he having an affair when he died?
@@arnold-hu4vk Possibly. But he did love his kids.
He was a junkie and he cheated continuously on his wife, on top of that he was an arrogant, big headed shit who has no proven martial arts record.

Bruce Lee was a Mental Giant and I'll leave it at that!

I didn't know Sammo Hung was from Bruce Lee Era! I remember and loved the show Sammo Law! ; ) 💕 I also love Jackie Chans movies! ❤
BRUCE LEE WAS MY HERO ! ❤ I MISS HIM 😊
Bruce Lee was so fast… he could run around the world and punch himself in the back of the head (even before Chuck Norris could)!
This made me actually laugh out loud!
I love that black and white footage of Bruce that they use in the documentary 'Be Water'. So fast and accurate. Legend.
Imagine what would Lee do if he was still alive to this day.
There Will Never Be Another
YOu can tell Bruce Lee knows how to fight just by watching him although his fights are choreographed. It's the way he moves and his persona is like that of a streetfighter. He broke tradition with his style of martial arts. You can tell his American roots had an influence on him which subsequently influenced generations of fighters and millions of fans.
Now instead of Chuck Norris jokes, we need "Bruce Lee was so fast" jokes 🙏😂
Except in Bruce's case it was damn near NOT a joke.
Bruce Lee so fast after hitting you multiple times you wouldn't know or feel cause your pain receptors have not yet been triggered.
Legendary Indeed

I love Sammo Hung, so comical and amazing fighter, but in the theater you'd have to be.
His one inch punch is insane
How fast was Bruce Lee? If you watch back his fight with Chuck Norris at 1/16 speed, you can see Bruce eating a sandwich between punches!
Similar to Usain Bolt.. the guy has a very slightly different natural muscle set up which means he was quite literally born to run.
Bruce Lee had that Ultra Instinct speed

Yeah like he would need those acrobatic moves to take some nobody like you out
According to urban legend Lee's back injury story was just a cover up, and he was actually injured in a fight involving the Chinese mafia.
@@Will-tn8kq many fans like to believe it was the secret fight that caused his back injury, rather than something as simple as an injury while working out. Many Lee fans are gullible. LOL!

So thankful a legend like Jackie Chan is still around and making movies.
bruce lee learned some tai chi style as a young kid from his father before moving on and learning different other martial art styles. in tai chi there is something like fa jin, a kind of explosive move. it grows from your center and the force comes out in a symmetrical way. he must have understood this at a young age and tried to implement that knowledge in every style that he learned. and probably mixed it with other kind of body mechanics like the movement of the whip where you do create a wave that travels from inside to the outside. that very analytic thinking got him to that fast moves. it is the extreme slow movement that leads to basic understanding of static forces, where you develop the movement in a symmetry of forces and on the other side fast movements where forces can travel as a wave and can be amplified from inside to the outside every time when you move the force in a different direction.
not ending as an old grandpa with learning tai chi at the end of life but starting with it at a very young age gave him some knowledge that shaped his whole martial art journey. his fast movements came from that deep understanding of body mechanics. zhan zhuang and slow movements, symmetry through chan si gong, explosive movements like fa jin until the application of moving waves of forces like a whip
I remember when I was a teenager I began trying to master his short punch...where he rests his finger tips on an object, curls up his fingers and delivers a short blow. My knuckles still are scarred and calloused. Anyway, in my 50's now, I think I'd still be able to knock your breath away with such a hit to the chest.
Hey beerdy... like the video, and how informative it is however I have an issue with a comment that you made about Jackie Chan and Samo hung being the only two remaining alive from the Bruce Lee movies specifically Enter the Dragon. Samo Hung is a trained martial artist. He knows many styles and was among the best at the Peking Opera school.
@@gahan101 I know he is a very big director and a legendery martial artist. But I just wrote what Jackie Chan said in his book.
I saw the all Sammo Hung movies , and I know Sammo Hung has done things in his life that ninety percent of people cannot do until the moment of death.
But let's accept that the jackie and yuen biao acrobatic movements are in another level.
Bruce Lee exercised using isometrics exclusively, that's how his punches and kicks were so fast.
Oh BTW, it was called "Martial Law" not "Sammo Law" lol
In know him. He's an excellent choreographer kung fu and actor too.
yeah but he was like the first two's little brother, jackie said b4 that yuen biao was weaker than jackie and jackie could beat him up. And I think Yuen probably would agree. Furthermore, while being weaker, Yuen doesnt really seem faster than Jackie either.
cant find that video anywhere. but trust me jackie did say sammo is more powerful than him and yuen is weaker than him. The only thing I will give yuen is that he has more aerials.
Bruce was amazing in ways but an average fighter at best.

Bruce Lee was actually so slow that he went into negative values which created a glitch in reality to make him ultra fast.
Always loved both of these guys movies.
Bruse was so fast they needed to slow the recording film by a great degree . Because it appears like his leg or arms are invisible in some fight scenes.
This brought some new challenges to filming Bruce's fight scenes!
Imagine had Bruce never been killed? How much more powerful he would of gotten especially mentally wise.
I think bruce achieved these speeds by tensing up his muscles, building up his adrenelin, then releasing all his energy all at once.
I noticed In his fights he used to move his head quickly from left to right or right to left to
disorientate his opponents just before he hits them.
Very clever tactics.
