Very informative. Well done...my compliments...huzzah!
It's almost like a run of blankets had recently been sold out in 15 minutes. What perfect timing!
Thanks Will for the informative video ... looks like a great winter quarters project.
Also, I was wondering if you guys could do a video on North Carolina uniforms or something related to NC, love your videos!
Great suggestion! Do you have specific parts of the kit or a specific regiment you'd suggest we look at? Will
@@CivilWarDigitalDigest possibly the jackets that NC used, like the NC sack coat or the shell jacket.
Great job Will!
Quite a fascinating video. Seems an amazingly labor intensive way to mass produce blankets, but hand work was the order of the day, wasn't it?
I sketch the US on then stitch it starting with the letter U first then S using a sewing pencil
At the beginning you said you soaked in warm water and Wambaugh said cold water in the instructions. Does it matter either way?
Excellent, thank you! Ps, what tune is that in the beginning ?
It is called “Soldier’s Joy”. Will
I thought you were going to tell us how to stop fraying I was really looking forward to that
We do. Check out the video on the Blanket stitch. It’s Vol. V, EP 5a.
Hey Will, where is the link to this U.S. stencil? Thank you, Mark
Sent!!!
Were there any blankets without the US stitched on it?
I don't know that a database of the existing originals has been put together. That would help answer this question, along with digging into photos. At this point, I'm not sure. Will
Follow up question: Why a couch stitch? I don't think you mentioned a reason. Was there an advantage to going to this extent?
We don’t know why other than that is what is on the original. Will
@@CivilWarDigitalDigest I might know why. Its the weave of the fabric. I went to sew my name into the bottom and with a regular running stitch it looks choppy. Illegible. With a couching stitch you can see it. I would suppose a back stitch might work but probably not look as good.
Cool replica. Is it actually warm out in the field?
Will advise in a few weeks. The run just came out but it feels like it will be! Will
Civil War Digital Digest very well, I’ll be looking forward to an update!
Anyone have the link to the stencil? I can’t find it.
Use the contact us feature on our website. We will send you a copy.
What is the name of the company that makes these blankets?
Wambaugh, White & Co.
joey flores They sold out in a few days. But Dan said they will make another run this fall. You’ll need to get their FB page and keep an eye out if you really want one. Because they will probably sell out quick again.
Where can I get a printable version of the U S template?
Send us an email.

@@CivilWarDigitalDigest I just did. 😁
Replying to it as soon as I get home from work.
Good job but I cannot justify $230.00 on a blanket. For that price everything should be done.
Be glad you are in ACW. As a reference, when I priced Quality Brit Rev blankets - they were over $300. This is what 100% US quality product and materials looks like today. Will
@@CivilWarDigitalDigest I got my "hard corps" blankets that were the cat's meow at the time and did not pay near this for them.
Sounds like every time period has vendors that think too highly of themselves.
