  • This video is about an old furnace removal. The furnace seemed to be an original from the house build in 1949! About 5 years ago this unit began to leak so it was disconnected and forgot about. Well today we got it out and will be replacing it soon! It was temporarily boarded up to keep from the cold draft coming into the house.

    Should have just toenailed 2x4s in the hole and put plywood down instead of just plywood. That's looks tacky.

    Wow, this is the same heater model I have. In fact, your floor layout is exactly like my floor layout,,,,hallway, living room. I'm removing my heater so I can remove this Transite-Asbestos vent pipe that is smack in the middle of my bathroom. Any chance you live in the West Orange area, Flower or Stevens streets?

      Hi, I’m in California. Not sure the specific area you are referencing. Asbestos must be taken care of properly disposal, removal. The removal is fairly easy just set aside a weekend. Good luck

    We never use a reciprocating saw to remove the floor furnace, matter of fact we’re going to remove one today

    My house is 106 years old and floor heater works fine. But, just in case, no-one, even google can tell me where to get parts or someone that repairs them. Also, want to know if I can cover it with a rug in the summer safely and without the pilot going out. Thanks anyone!

    Thanks for the video. Do I need a plumber or a gas man for this type of job?

    • @dezertassassin
      @dezertassassin  4 роки тому

      If you can properly close off the gas valve, then no. The gas company will usually come out for free and inspect and shut off lines that are not in use. If you don't feel confident, always call a professional. Get multiple estimates as well.

    Hey Cody, I came across your video. I live in LA Habra and would like my old furnace removed. How can get in contact with you?

    Hi there, is the furnace being hold solely by two supports you cut at ~2:38? Or there is something supporting it underneath it as well? I have the same old furnace in my hallway and would like to get rid of. But I think the furnace itself also connected to something underneath the exterior box (at least this is what I found out last time I checked in the crawlspace), so by justing sawing the two supports, I am afraid I cannot detach the furnace and the box?

      It's probably the gas line holding it

    I have a very similar furnace in my home and it’s just as rusted and covered in dust, doesn’t work as far as I could tell. It gets in the way and want to remove it myself. is it safe to just cut away at it or should I turn off gas first? I doubt it’s connected. never used it.

    • @dezertassassin
      @dezertassassin  6 років тому

      Yeah, this was in a similar condition. The gas had been turned off for a few years. Just make sure that it is off. If you can take it out piece by piece or need to cut it out, go for it. If you have a similar size hole in the floor, I would suggest getting 2x4s and cutting them to size to make the wood cover flush with the floor. Good luck! 👍

      ALWAYS disconnect, turn off safety shutoff, and cap the gas line before you mess with something like this. Do not take chances with gas. There may also be electric lines to it, so ensure you don't also electrocute yourself.

    I will need to remove my floor furnace soon. What is the ballpark cost for removal without boarding up the hole (i.e. less than $1,500, more than $2,500, etc)?

    • @dezertassassin
      @dezertassassin  5 років тому

      SpiceC Delite it depends on where you live, the company that will do the removal and or install if you are replacing the unit.

    • @dezertassassin
      @dezertassassin  7 років тому

      WTF_NENE the whole hole, depending on what's stepping on it. If nothing light weight plywood. If it's load bearing use thicker and stronger wood.

    wow what a f-ing shame! that heater shoulda been saved! cause it seemed smarter and tougher than the guy working on it!

    • @dezertassassin
      @dezertassassin  6 років тому +1

      Paul Ramirez the heater has been out of commission for 15+ years. Gas had been previously disconnected as well as the ventilation system, which was damaged. Bad electrical and ignitor. Home owners request to removed it and wait for a hvac split system to be installed. Thanks for coming by sir.

      they're insanely dangerous. you can scrap them, so cut into pieces is perfect.

      Hello, my daughter, a single mom of two toddlers just brought an old house with this furnace in it; just how dangerous is it for them and do you know of a program for first time home owners that would help exchange it out for a safer more up to date one? Also, can you tell us the name and maybe the model number so we can order a missing part for it? Thank you
