You Know what i said about The Beau Brummels, goes double for these guys!- i love Bobby Fuller! i was very sad to hear about his untimely demise, just as he was at the height of his career. they even did an UNSOLVED MYSTERY seg about him! whatever the case of this tragedy-Bobby Fuller was THE best,,and his Music will live-on forever!
I loved the 50's,60's and 70's genre of music......It is however unfortunate that there was some big losses of wonderful singers and intrument players during those era's too.....but,we do fortunetly still have the great music in which they composed, played and recorded to remember them by. LONG LIVE ROCK AND ROLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The clip of the jail guard dancing "the monkey" with Lada Edmund Jr is still kinda funny after all these years. Thanks for sharing this kinescope from NBC's Hullabaloo. May Mr. Fuller's murderer(s) be brought to justice and may Bobby be inducted into the rock hall someday.
This song was first made by Sonny Curtis and the Crickets, Buddy Holly's band, after Holly died in 1959. Bobby Fuller Four had the biggest hit with the song, though.
@MisFire45 Even Bobby didn't do it first. It became a local hit in some areas, and all it took was the Bobby Fuller Four's definitive version to put it on the charts.
I was in Canada (Medicine Hat Alberta) in October 1973 and saw the “Frank Fuller Four” at a bar called the Royal, who sang this. I bought a Tape from them for $2 (long Gone) which had this song on.....Now to my question.......is it the same group?
Thanks for posting this. Best up-close pictures I've seen of Bobby Fuller. What happened to him? These were fine, clean-cut young men. Who was the girl in jail?
I'm not sure what you're talking about with the lyrics. I don't know what version you've heard, by the studio recording of the clash song says "i left my baby" too.
Yep. They used to lip sync much more frequently in those days, and the mics sometimes had funny, futuristic shapes. Nonetheless, they were just for decoration.
I'm not saying either one is better or worse, but do a search for "I fought the law" followed by each band name and you'll find more results with the Clash than Bobby Fuller. And to clear things up by "best known" I meant more people know about it, not that it was the best version.
bobby fullers version is not the original either, tho probably the best, sonny curtis wrote the tune, and the crickets released the hit post buddy holly, around 1958...

Beautiful song. It was a favourite song of US soldiers in Vietnam.

Awesome song and fantastic singer. Could've been the next Buddy Holly! Rest In Peace Bobby.

Thanks for posting this. Best up-close pictures I've seen of Bobby Fuller. What happened to him? These were fine, clean-cut young men. Who was the girl in jail?
The girl in the jail was Lada St Edmund.
way better than the one that the clash did i thought
the clash blow..........
Brian D. knows how this feels.
@beautifulmess72
I'm pretty sure Sonny Curtis did the first?
Doesn't make them small minded. The version that The Clash did is by far the best known one...
Colton Harris-Moore is singing this now!
Thanks for that. Did the rest of his band keep playing? Or did they join another group etc.?
best

I cannot but notice how the guitar strumming closely resembles that of the Crickets, Buddy Holly's group. Also, the drummer looks like the Crickets'
Yes the only man to beat himself up to death.
The law certainly didn't do him any favours there.
@cheskabelle yes, but it's the original version, not a cover. but i like dk too.:)
@beautifulmess72
not small minded, just not exposed to the fact. I didn't know until I searched "Let Her Dance"
Yep. They used to lip sync much more frequently in those days, and the mics sometimes had funny, futuristic shapes. Nonetheless, they were just for decoration.
never heard anyone say it was a green day song lol. i HAVE heard people say it was a clash song though haha.
also back to the 80's?
xD

Even worse how the Dead Kennedys rewrote it as "I fought the law and I won."
@beautifulmess72 Who thinks the Clash did the original?
@beautifulmess72 In all fairness, thinking something and being incorrect doesn't make you small minded.
Just wondering back then did these guys cut their own hair ?
@beautifulmess72 but also this one isn't the original :)
it would be a perfect song for the people in the back of a police car
BFV!
WELL THEY WROTE THE SONG ORIGINALLY
Perfect song for GTA4 LOL driving away from the cops FUUUUUUUU
bobby fullers version is not the original either, tho probably the best, sonny curtis wrote the tune, and the crickets released the hit post buddy holly, around 1958...
Sonny Curtis and The Crickets
I won !
Look at the mics they're singing into. WTF?
Who is the chick dancing??? 1:14 Awesome!!
Lada St. Edmund
is bobby fuller's death still considered a suicide? i've heard he was murdered.
Bobby Fuller was murdered!
Didnt buddy holly do this first??
its practicly the same thing;)
Beacuse buddy holly formed the crickets
temón, am&qr
It was after Buddy Holly died.
Cappin people with a Mac 9... I fought the Po Po and the Po Po won.
Chuck Norris fought the law. And won.
The incompetent LAPD???
I think not!!!
DKs version is more truthful!!
Dead Kennedys version sucks...
It reeks of the un-explainable...
