Looks like it was a nice trail ride, and the bike was equal to it.
    Thanks for the ride-along.

We have had so little rain this summer that even the clay soil is hard packed like stone. Almost no mud and the rocks are too big for gravel 🤣. It’s not the best bike at anything, but for the price, it can do a lot!

Nice. Am looking more and more at the bike as a really decent bike. I'm not surprised it's running in 1st at 10mph. I think most bikes would. My KLR would be melting lol. But yeah, pretty decent kit for the price. You said your 6"1 and mentioned something about the standing position. Did you find yourself leaning more forward than you're used to?

I found I had to crouch a bit. I think 20mm or 30mm bar risers or a high rise bar would sort it though.

Did this today as I get used to the 300L, nice few miles.

I’m guessing it’s still dry, dusty and rocky? Must have been some good views out today. I was out on the ridge between Castleton and Edale this morning (dog walking, not riding) and it was glorious.

@@PeakMotorcycles Yes very dry, really windy on the tops but felt warm, I just plodded across as a few groups of walkers and I was trying to get a feel of the bike, I feel a suspension upgrade is required, cut off in Hope round Edale again to avoid the Castleton tourist traffic.

That’s a difficult one. It will come down to what you are looking for in a bike, proximity of dealers, where you will ride it, your size and your style of riding.
The Honda and V-Strom are tried and tested. The XCape is new (but made with tried and tested parts). I think the stock suspension on the XCape is better than the others, but if that doesn’t matter to you, that’s not really a differentiator. If you can, see if you can test ride all three, or at least sit on them. Apologies that this isn’t very helpful. For me, for an all rounder, (some commuting, some highway travel and some trails), and being 6’1” tall with a 33” inside leg, and having a nearby dealer, I’d choose the X-Cape, but that doesn’t mean I’d recommend it to someone who will use it completely differently or who can’t get a foot down.

@@gopaliitm in that case my guess is that maybe XCape or the Honda (with a lowering link?) might be the way to go. The XCape with a low seat has a seat height of 820mm, the VStrom 835mm and the 500x 830mm. There might be some more lowering options for the 500x though. Also, it depends on the seat shape, height is one thing, but width and the difference it makes to your feet is another. Good luck!

So am considering this bike and the Himi/Scram?
Which would you go for? My first big bike. I want to do some touring n adv riding...

    • @PeakMotorcycles
      @PeakMotorcycles  2 роки тому +1

For touring, especially for big miles, I’d pick the X-Cape. It’s just better cruising at speed and offers more protection. If you had to do a few motorways hours to get through a flat bit, I’d rather do it on this than the other two. If you’re doing more trail riding, then the Honda is the better bike. The gearing is better suited, and though the stock Honda suspension is not as good as the X-Cape, the price different more than makes up for that.
The Himalayan is between the two, it’ll do trails, but not as well as the Honda, and it’ll do road touring but not as well as the Moto Morini. If you’re not in a rush, and you want something simple, it’s perfect. It’s also the cheapest of the three by some margin.
As with any bike recommendation, what works for me might not work for you, so if you can, see if you can test ride them all, then think about what you will mostly use it for. All will be great, if that I am sure, it’s just picking the greatest for you! Good luck

@@PeakMotorcycles See thats the thing could go touring with somw chaps but they have bigger bikes.
Am not fussed touring via back roads. I guess with the money can save on insurance etc the scram/himi is the way to go...but yeah need to test ride. Its a bit frustrating that they didnt give the Enfields a bit more juice.
I dont mind getting another bike at some point. The other aspect is maybe servicing the Scram or Himi would be easier (I'd like to learn).
P.s You're a good chap to ask because I know you have ridden the scram plus this bike.
