    Dougo and his wisdom is unspeakably great. Back when I was growing up (same age as DOUGO), we would hire 10-15 school kids on a Saturday to hand pick rocks. We used an old IH 806 to pull a hydraulic hay wagon to throw the rocks on as we walked behind it until it got full. Almost like good ole days of bailing hay but just not as fun. Always a good video with Dougo.

    Dougo needs his own channel! Brilliant wisdom and humor. Whether he means it or not. Also the wide slots on the rock picker? Sounds like a good winter project for one of the boys to weld in some rebar and narrow up the slots. Pick up smaller rocks.

    In Canterbury in NZ they grow the best yielding wheat in the world. Just a few miles away they grow best stones too. Alluvial country from shifting riverbeds. In between the stones beautiful soil. Stone picking or pulvirising is so expensive. I like you picker because its low impact and low horsepower. We have a couple of massey headers and i would have loved to repurpose the 760 to harvest rocks. Just as a lifter, bin and conveyor. Trouble with picking is all the stopping to unload. About 40% time no picking. Problem is economics. If it cost $2500 acre to pick clean what returns does that generate. So mostly farmers heavy roll hay fields, light roll low pickup seed fields and cereals dont bother. For all the stones we had big ones simply stopped header infeed at the clutches, dropped into stone trap or went thru. Sure a few got sections and fingers or lifters but we managed. Last harvest the mower dropped a blade in the ryegrass. No big deal. A few days later the header lifted the blade, went thru combine and got right thru to the returns rethresher. The cast iron drum didnt like it and spat the dummy. Fortunately had a spare drum for a 1977 machine in the shed and all good. The machines are now all retired, farm not making enough return and farmer retiring, rented out the beautiful ground and its now feeding cows and calves for dairy industry.

    I thought you guys were going to start working on changing your irrigation stuff, inputting a new tile system in, and maybe tying it into the existing one, or at least replacing it you need to get that fixed so you can get good drainage for your fields. I know it takes a lot of money though, based upon your field how much money would it cost to get all of them fixed that’s the only way you’re going to get a good crop is to get those tile lines put in place permanently and look at the existing ones if you can, and time in. If they’re not damaged, but if they’re so old. I do wonder how much it would cost to turn them completely out in inches onto new ones, but I guess this is why farmers don’t take the account to look at how much is going to cost to remove them. They just end up playing new ones right next to the old tile lines so many times, maybe it is more cost-effective than just trying to tear off the old ones, and yet I wonder if it’s best to tie into the old ones at times and lay in a new style.
    I do know it takes a lot of money for tile work because of all the machinery and fuel and whatnot, but I do wonder what your guesses and feelings are on alternative energy programs. I’m wondering if you guys are eventually going to do what California is forcing there for us to do to go all-electric for their equipment what do you think about all of these new electric farming equipment that is coming around personally I like the old standby, and everything means like it used to be but I guess changes about to occur, whether we like it or not, are you prepared for these kind of changes for having electrical equipment 100% that’s the way it’s going for farms nowadays especially demanding California eventually end up being demanding throughout the whole united states and Canada.
    Sincerely!
    R.S.V.

      "Dickens" lead me down that rabbit hole too, I had also heard the phrase "colder than the dickens". Now I know ;
      There’s a very simple answer to this. “Dickens” was originally a euphemism for the word “Devil.”
      In times past - and even now - there have been some people reluctant to directly reference the devil. And in fact, people who also regard using words like “hell,” “God,” “Jesus Christ” as exclamations in everyday conversation as something they don’t like to do, have, over time, developed euphemisms that they find acceptable. So they may say, “This is a heck of a mess,” or “Oh my gosh,” or “Jeepers Creepers.”

    Dougo, when grandpa used to cultivate with the John Deere 2020, I used to ride in the bucket and pick rocks. I got a nickel a rock. My price has increased to a buck a rock if interested.😂
