    If you grab multiple orders you can grab a hand basket for each order and set them in a cart to help separate.

    A little sneaky trick I learned: I always do trips with higher base pay just because tip can change. But on Sundays, it does the instant cash out. So on Sundays, I'll take any trip, especially those with high tip amounts. They honor that tip at the cash out and don't take it away if the customer would try to lower it. (Which they do sometimes, tip high to get someone to take it and then lower the tip).

    • @aspirehigher6368
      @aspirehigher6368 3 роки тому +11

      @@BaysideFL a customer can change a tip through doordash with the help/chat function and sometimes while leaving reviews/ratings which can be done at any time after delivery so tips can adjust at any point. I've done it multiple times to increase a tip. Most times I give my whole final tip when ordering though, which also eliminates tip theft possibilities but some dashers on UA-cam have reported tip increases and my own receipts always reflect my increased pay is tips. I've NEVER used the post-delivery adjustment option to DECREASE tips.
      Usually I've done it because it started snowing or raining or if the driver came a long way or if they just treated my food very well and brought it on time and were nice (food safety is so important and especially in the pandemic so I reward proper service). But, there was one time I was even able to give extra tips to at least 5 different delivery people at once when it was weeks after delivery, because I hadn't tipped as much as I'd have liked to nor did I leave any ratings yet and I was actually able to have done so from the same past order screen that you leave ratings on instead of needing to fix it through a chat.
      I also am a dasher as of 2 weeks ago.

    I had heard it takes some time to be approved for shopping instacart so I applied early on a Saturday morning and was approved in a half hour. So just like when I decided to foster dogs and I decided to take a bonded pair for my first foster, I opted to take a 45 item order in a very bust grocery store near me. As it turns out, it was also the weekend a large university came back from Xmas break and the store was INSANE. I thought I knew the store and I do, for what I shop for. It took me over 2 hours between the insanity, the crazy long check out lines and my first time experience. I did not have a smooth check out and I don’t feel the app is that user friendly so here I am, trying to learn. Better late than never.
    Great suggestions!

    I’m not planning on becoming a shopper, but am an Instacart user and thought it might be helpful to understand the process from the shopper’s point of view. And it definitely was! (Although it makes me even more puzzled about how I ordered and was charged for a 16 oz pkg of mushrooms, but received only an 8 oz pkg - surprised it got through the “wrong size” scan)
    I’m curious why you would be less interested in larger orders. Seems like tips would be bigger. I guess I’ve been lucky - I typically order lots of meat and produce from one store in particular and I always get my groceries super fast. But I’m a good tipper, so I suppose that’s it. And unless someone does something particularly egregious, I usually increase it even further after delivery. I even increased it on the order with the mushrooms (with a couple of other small issues) because I know it’s not easy. Which brings me to my next question - what is the percentage of the typical tip? BTW, I know I’m not in your area - we don’t have the stores you were shopping! 😂

    Pro tip about tips is sssooooo true. Also true for Ubereats customers as well. Seems like most people that don't tip either act odd, no eye contact, have complaints or odd/extra request that half the time you can't do (like use your own money to purchase something & promise to pay you back through the app even though they aren't even tipping you or ask to drop them off somewhere). I took orders in an area I usually don't do because in the past the few I did take did not tip and seem to have attitudes for some reason. Did everything (like "don't knock just leave at door" type of request) that the customer had in notes. After that week my rating went from 100% to 97%. Never went back to that area again. Rating went back up.

    As a HUGE Instacart customer and member (so my delivery fee is waived), I would be embarrassed to not leave a minimum of 20-25% of the total order as a tip (more if you follow my simple instructions of ringing the doorbell to alert me that my groceries have arrived since I could be on a conference call and might not be aware). I appreciate my Instacart shoppers so much for the time they save me and most of them go above and beyond in making sure I get the most important part of my grocery order (usually the family pack of cooked chicken from the Deli which serves as dinner for that day and is leftovers for lunch for the next day). My orders are usually pretty big (about 35 items, however mostly packaged multiples). I don't believe a shopper has received less than $35 for a tip from me at any given time and from the time they start shopping and finish checking out, at most they spent 20 minutes which is pretty impressive (I take longer than that myself, but then again I loathe shopping). I have had shoppers alert me of specials which I appreciated and increased their tip because of this extra effort. I always increase the tip if it starts raining after the fact shopping started. I do go out of my way to identify replacements in the app since I am so picky and I identify what I don't want replacements for due to being so picky. It saves the shopper time and I get exactly what I want. 7/10 times I am usually on a Zoom conference call and therefore I may not be immediately available to respond to the shopper's message which is why I do as much as I can on my end to help the shopper do what they need to do. I work from home and I rely on Instacart, Uber Eats, Door Dash and Amazon for pretty much 99% of everything I need. I literally have zero time to even leave my house most of the time. When and if I do, the last thing I want to do is to run errands and deal with people. I hate shopping and much rather spend my precious time doing other things. Therefore, THANK YOU to all that do Instacart and all these other companies. I for one appreciate the hell out of you all. I wish everyone tipped and for the cheap bastards that don't, they should be ashamed and I don't blame any of you for not taking their order as I wouldn't do it either.
    This type of work is not for everyone, but is such an important service for those that use it. While some people just use it occasionally in a pinch, there are others like myself that rely on the service for quality of life. Time is something you can never get back once it is wasted. Time is money. I want to spend my precious time doing what I want and grocery shopping or picking stuff up at the Dollar General or getting something to eat is just not worth my precious time and I will gladly pay for someone else to do it for me. So again, thank YOU, y'all ROCK! Stay safe.❤

    Hi two things if I could. First on multiple customers most groceries store have those plastic baskets. Usually you can put at least two baskets in one cart separate One customer from the other so you don't get them mixed up! Secondary when your putting multiple batches at check out into one cart. Most bags have handles so what I do is quickly tie colored elastics ( different color for each customer) so when the whole batch is in the cart you cant get them mixed up. I get my elastics at a Dollar store usually $1 a bag.
    Thanks Steve R

    And thanks for the pro tip on not accepting orders from 0 tip orders, as I loved your punchline: I don't accept those batches, as they are almost always Karens! Hahahahaha Karens tend to be super-cheap and super picky.

    • @TerminallyTina
      @TerminallyTina  4 роки тому +60

      It’s so fun to see the behind the scenes lol! I use an app called Everlance! It automatically logs all driving trips you take and then you can quickly classify it as “business” or “personal” with a swipe. So cool.

      use a small dedicated notebook and go old school. apps share data. i used to use an app but realized i was getting a ton of unwanted spam. since then, I have been using a notebook for 4 years. add up miles each week. make sure you log miles from starting point. if you are starting at your house, log odometer reading when you start the car. when you are back home or to a destination after you are done, record that odometer reading.

    I am starting this weekend and am really nervous but this helps tremendously so thank you. I am wondering about the bags though do I have to purchase reusable bags each delivery per customer? A lot of stores aren’t doing plastic ones anymore. Do they take off the cost of bag on the purchase order through the app?
