      I know it's personal preference, but I have a choice of a Zappi or an EO mini pro. I don't have solar, nor am I likely to anytime soon, so will just be looking at a straight comparison of which is the best charger. What would you go for if you had this choice, and why, ie which charger in your opinion is the better one?

In Australia we have limited options of both EVs as well as chargers. The Zappi is available and I know it charges very well using solar only. I am an electrician and I reiterate all the work is in the 1st rod. Once that is done, screwing an extra rod and banging it down is not difficult. @deanfielding4411 4 роки тому +4

      Michael Joseph £50 is a very fair price, if you want to instal your one you’re more than welcome to, but there are many factors we have to cover including the fact we usually can’t fit another job in afterwards, ground scanner, the fact that it usually disturbs driveways and con include builders work to make good. They don’t take 5 min to install properly.

    • @lincsevs4341
      @lincsevs4341 4 роки тому +4

      The price of an earth rod may be low, but it’s the fitting and testing which can add up considerably. They need to test the ground below to ensure they’re no electricity cables or water/gas mains which could lead to a catastrophic disaster, I think £50 is a pretty good price!

    • @NicolasRaimo
      @NicolasRaimo  4 роки тому +2

      As above but 3 people beat me to it... 5 minutes to shove it in ground but wouldn’t you rather than check there’s no pipes, cables or gas main... and if they lifted flags etc.. would you rather them leave the site as they found it or a mess?

      Public charging can range from 15p to 40p if we go in at say 25p which is lower than the average but more likely if NOT using rapids 2500kwh is £625 but no home charger. but thats just YEAR 1.

      3 months ago a PHEV arrived to complement a Nissan Leaf. Only 1 garage space, 25 ft Clipper Creek L2 unit. After an evaluation period, I elected for a J-1772 21 ft extension cable vs. costly electric upgrade & 2nd EVSE. While the original cable would reach it involved parking the Leaf behind the Ioniq PHEV blocking access. Not a big deal except with rain, snow, cold wx conditions an inconvenience. For about $200 USD this has been the lowest cost, very convenient and no need to valet cars. With the length, the garage is accessible while charging the second car. The Ioniq takes about 2:15 to charge; the Leaf goes days w/o charging and then it’s about 3:00 or so for my driving needs. Best wishes and good luck in the search for a solution to your needs. Your Tesla will most likely we be connected to web via Tesla smartphone app. You also failed to mention charge rates, as the majority of EVs won’t take more than 7.6kw. Quite a few EV's take more than 7.6kw, very few take over 11kw however. My Rolec is outside and has been faultless charging everyday/night in all weathers. If you have a problem with Rolec and aren't willing to put them on a level playing field, wouldn't it be better to invite them to an interview, so we can understand more clearly whether it is a problem with a very old unit or something that was down to poor installation or misuse. To my understanding, the Rolecs are Kitemarked and meet or exceed all necessary regs. Keep up the great work in the video and I can understand why a recent personal experience could colour judgement; but if Rolecs do have a problem, we'd all like to know; if they don't or are as good as the most of the rest, then it is only fair to have them represented in some way.

    Should you get a charger at all.
    Is it creating more environmental waste and pollution.

    Lastly,fast charge on budget with commando socket,if you must?

    • @NicolasRaimo
      @NicolasRaimo  3 роки тому

      3 pin charging wasn’t designed for every day use and I’ve seen loads of them catching fire 🔥 so yes you should have a socket designed for a load like this. It’s technically greener as your be consuming more power at time it grids greener rather than trickle charging when grid may be dirty.
      A commando socket installed to same regs for EV charging is fine but by the time you done it to regs you might as well just got the EV charger and grant

    • @alanrobinson2229
      @alanrobinson2229 3 роки тому

      @@NicolasRaimo so ohme should not be selling three pin plug chargers if,as you suggest,they are dangerous.
      The ohme can,as you know come into use at green periods.
      There seem to be a number of bids and forum posts that indicate you can get commando socket installed for couple hundred Quid,the ohme commando charger has presumably been produced as an alternative,as you know for £200 with octopus.
      So the cost is considerably less.

    • @NicolasRaimo
      @NicolasRaimo  3 роки тому

      Granny cables should be used an an top up, agile does mean switching every 30 minutes so Ohme is unlikely to hit high heats for long periods but with this in mind you may be charging for more than 30 mins to get how much charge you need. Issue with 🔥 doesn’t tend to be fault of chargers more down to your house electrics not being checked or maintained. It can also be you didn’t push socket in fully as unlike dedicated EV sockets they don’t have a firm lock 🔒 ev chargers have the shortest pin being coms so if it wasn’t in fully the car would disconnect.
      Ohme make a product if you buy the product it’s down to you and the installer to ensure it complies with regs.
      If a socket of any form is being installed for the purpose of charging an EV it must meet regs that’s if it’s a comando or even a 3 pin socket. Issue is people say “fit me a comando socket there please” and they won’t have the earth rod installed. £200 plus price of install of a comando your not saving much on an installed Ohme under grant of £550
      I do wish octopus and Ohme would offer the walllbox with grant at a discount but they would unlikely be able to cope with the number of installs

    • @NicolasRaimo

      Read the manual that comes with ones for car it says for occasion use and some used to say emergency. £200 isn’t fully installed it’s the cable with the comando end you still need that socket fitting in your home 🏠
      Again it’s not environmental charging at slow speeds if the grids dirty, it’s much greener to suck up as much as fast as possible in the short window of low co2 from National grids. I also don’t think car makes should supply 3 pin cable I think that’s a waste of resources. Some car makes agree like Renault not supplying one instead with there new cars there pay for a charger

Section 7 of the minimum technical requirements document from then on says a charge point has to be able to “receive and process information”, “react to information received by adjusting the rate of the charging or discharging”, “monitor and record energy consumption, and be able to transmit this”, “be accessed remotely...by utilising...Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) 1.6 or above, or an equivalent”

      Hi Dream Box, i PERSONALLY rate the zappi unit. Peugeot will likely recommend one of 3 companies which meet demands of fittings LOTS of units and supplying them. There likely not be able to do solar diversion and your likely get a faceless sub contractor doing the install rather than a privately owned company like Ecoplugg that fits national and prides it self on service.
      Issue with providing speeds of charge rate is it depends on many factors and EVERYONE will have different results. Then adding solar to the mix will depend again "how big is your solar array" "how much electricity your house may be using when plugged in" "how sunny is it" With the Zappi unit you can do one thing which is say "Charge using excess solar, however by 4pm I want to add at least 25kwh of power to my battery" It will then use the grid to ensure you get the full 25kwh of power requested.
      Remember calling EcoPlugg and stating "EV Nick" gets you £15 off quote.

      Oliver Dawson yes it can 🙂 it only needs one, it can still sense the house usage and see excess solar being diverted to the grid which it can then use.

    The socket cost around £300 and material £20 as it was a back to back with the consumer unit
    So £700 less £320 = £380, not bad for 2 hours work
    As it happens I did have a problem which was to do with the compatibility between Rolec and The Jaguar communicating and they came back twice to sort it which they did
    All officially approved contracts have to guarantee units for 3 years otherwise they lose their licence
    Your comments are all unfounded in my case, but unlike you I will not speculate as to why you are so
    Negative about Rolec. Perhaps they have rocked the boat about contractors charging £500 + plus the government allowance of £500 for half a days work plus the socket and limited material

      It's a rip-off. The amount the installers get is ludicrous compared to a normal rate charged by an electrician. If I do get a unit fitted when I move it will be a comando unit. Had a quote for one in garage which already has electric and fitted cost is £150

    You will pay a high way duty tax when you charge at home or any were , then a tax on the charger. then pay a electrician to install. then a inviro. in pack fee. then a fee for the wify. how long will the batt last. to replace the batt you will pay a tax on purchase then a tax to dispose the old batt. the volt batt replacement is 15,734.29 dollars. the volt batt last eight years. how many used ele cars are going to be resale. the biggest scam on the driving public ever.

      Janet this is the cost of a unit that complies to safety and new electric regs that have come in. Prices of units took a huge increase in January 2019 due to safety reg changes. Also cost of a qualified electrician doesn’t come cheap. Then again when you work out the fuel savings made the EV unit gets cheap. I did mention and display zappi2 does solar divert and when you divert by solar then the unit really does pay for it self
