      Greatley.....No....
But in theory...... yes, ss they are shielded and "sum" the signals together eleminating any distortion you may have in your room like microwave waves, strip lights or any other devices that kick out rf interference 🙂....
Research exactly what XLR connections are and how they work.... and if you think you might have rf interference from your room or maybe a neighbour is kicking some out, than xlr is best..... i use them all the time just in case, as i record and listen to audio as a profession.....
      Hope that helps 🙂👍🏻

Btw, you've never mentioned what you thought of The Last of Us Season 1 TV show. With the beard, you are definitely doing the Joel thing. You are just missing the backpack and the shotgun. Another option if you can find it, anthem avr 70 had crazy close outs. Yes it's only 4k but it's 15 channels, pre pro that closed out at $2700k. You can get the upgrade to 8k for $500.

Thanks Andrew and Kristi for another great review. Myself personally I would not nor could I have a crazy home theater setup in my living space. Given the fact I live in an apartment in NYC , any setup greater than a 5 channel or 7 channel setup would probably make me homeless. The noise complaints would be out of control. But I can see how this Marantz setup would provide a person with all of the options one could currently have in settling up a Uber home theater room. A lot of us have spent extra money on equipment that had to be replaced because our current system has been tapped out. I see it as a buy once and keep for a long while type of purchase.
    Finally Happy Mother’s Day.

It doesn't matter how many channels you are running. More important is if the speakers and amplification are entertaining at low volumes. Having sound modes to quickly adjust bass is nice to have too.
Sadly as expensive as this gear is, it too will be outdated soon enough. I think it makes sense to think of receivers as 'wear items' that will continually be replaced. Think of it this way, anyone willing to part with 14k for this combo will also be interested in the latest and greatest in a few years time and will likely upgrade. That is what truly makes this hobby expensive!

Picked up this combo to replace my current AV8805A and 2 x MM8077s. Excited to get it wired up and calibrated. I'm running a 7.2.6 Atmos setup, but also love 2 ch music. While I only need 13 ch, both the AV10 and AMP10 offer cool options for bi-amping. For example, I'm running B&W 702 S2 Signatures. They're power hungry. While my current setup is adequate to drive them, for music, I have to run higher volume before they really wake up, even with my current 150W/ch on the MM8077s. Since I top out at 13 channels for my home theater, I plan to tap the unused front wide L/R pre-outs on the AV10 for bi-amp mode. While still only 13 channels, I'll be tapping 15 of the 17 pre-outs with this setup. The AMP10 itself offers some cool bi-amp capabilities. Down the road, if I ever move to B&W's 800 lineup, I could bi-am Front L/R as noted above, and then bi-amp the 800 series center using the bi-amp option on the AMP itself..
In short, there's some awesome features on both AV10 and AMP10 for those with less than 16 channels who wish to tap bi-amping for hungrier speakers.

This is the kind of product that shows me how I’m at the point of diminishing returns. I currently run a Marantz AV7706 with two Marantz MM8077 amps for my 11ch. This setup would give me 4 more channels, but at double the cost for a slight increase in sound. Great review.

My system is 7.2.4 (Marantz 8015) with the family house at 5.3.4 (McIntosh separates), so I am one of those 2% odd balls but I will not add anymore speakers. Those systems get the job done and unless I build a custom home in the future I would stick with something a little less HOT as the 8015 is warm enough! lol

  • @XDUDE21
    @XDUDE21 Місяць тому +1

Currently have a 7.2.4 setup, but am seriously considering the AV10 (or AVM90) to take it to the 9.4.6 setup. For speakers I don't need the amp as I use active studio monitors in pairs for each channel (yes, 30 speakers total when done) plus 2 Rythmik FV25HP's and 2 G25HP's for subs. It is an amazing experience. This is just in our living room home theater also, not a dedicated cinema room. Hopefully one day I'll build a dedicated room build.

With the Marantz AV 10 having four independent subwoofer outputs it appears to be meant for the custom install industry. A more appropriate comparison appears to be with the Anthem AVM 90. On the amplifier side give Outlaw Audio some love.

Another informative and entertaining video from your channel. But what impresses me the most is the complete honesty we get from you and Kristi. Unless one is very affluent that $14k would not make a dent in their home theater spare change, there is really no need to spend that much. You had said that one could get 90% of that Marantz experience for about 1/3 of the cost. I beg to differ on only the percentage. To me, it’s more like 95% or slightly better in my opinion. Thanks again for this video and please keep them coming!

Out of my budget, but saw Gene at Audioholics early stuff on these but haven't caught the amp bench test yet to see if it really gives us 5 -7 channels driven power balance, which is one of most important to me: so sick of manufacturers giving us 2 channels driven bs when most of us buy a receiver/amp bc we are doing 5.1+! Either way, love the video as always, great stuff. Much appreciated! Have a great day!

One or the best, if not the most informative reviews I’ve ever seen!
How does the Marantz 50 & Emotiva combo compare musically (stereo) to the full Marantz set up?

  • @joes3800
    @joes3800 Рік тому +5

I can't believe only one Comment (so far) asked about a comparison to Anthem. I know separates like this will give you a lot more than an AVR like the MRX740, which you reviewed. (Although if you still have the MRX740, you actually could do a direct comparison to the AV10 by using the MRX740 as a preamp and making sure both the Marantz and Anthem are connected to the same amp(s) using RCA interconnects, to keep it fair.) But when I see this, I can't help but think that the AVM90 (same price but WITH full-featured proprietary room correction, so really cheaper than the AV10,) paired with extremely powerful and high-end Class D amps from companies like Monoprice or Buckeye Audio or maybe even ATI will give you MORE power than this Marantz combo for several $1000s cheaper (but still obviously expensive.) .... Sooo i have to ask: any chance that you'll be reviewing the AVMM 70 or AVM90? If someone were considering the Marantz combo vs something like the amps I mentioned above with the AVM70 or AVM90, I think that such a decision would come down to different aspects of sound quality and room correction results (aside from price, of course.) Heck, it would be a great comparison for us to all watch regardless of the reason, and I haven't seen anyone compare the AV10 to the AVM90.... yet.

I've heard the AV 10 AMP 10 combo in a 9.4.6 setup with some great floorstanders. It was so incredibly good that it put me off watching movies at home for a month. Much better than any theater I've been to. Being in a sonic bubble that made knowing exactly where sounds came from had the weird effect of becoming very concious of the flat screen in front.
Anyway, I see people here listing their own 5.1 setups and mentioning that's all they need. While that's probably true, you also have no clue what you're missing. It's an incredible sonic experience.

I am using 13.2 with the Marantz SR8015 with the Buchardt I150. The mains and subs are driven with the I150. The surrounds and center channel are powered by the Marantz.
I’m not sure an additional 2 speakers would make any difference to my set up as my room is quite small. It’s only 12 x 17. My main speakers are the Buchardt S400 Mk2, and they are 12 feet apart. One SVS SB3000 each is sat next to each S400 Mk2s. When I listen to music only; then only the I150 is used. When I’m watching movies, then the Marantz is turned on to power the center and surrounds. I am using a projector to get a 175” screen that sits in between the S400 Mk2s.

Not sure if you've heard about JoeNTells new app coming up which will level the playing firld between Audyssey and Dirac. My aging Marantz AV7702 MKII has started to show signs of impending death so I just ordered the AV10 as its replacement. I have no need for a new power amp, so the Amp 10 was not considered. Before settling on the AV 10 I considered options from Anthem, Emotiva and the Monolith HTP 1. With the Monolith being virtually impossible to get and Emotiva processors having a long history of being buggy and rudimentary I ended up ordering the Anthem AVM70 8K. Sadly though, after a few weeks of use, I found it's UI to be completely unacceptable for the price, thus the AV 10, which I should receive in a couple of weeks.
I have a 7.2.4 setup and went back and forth between the AV 10 and the AV8805A. While I have no need for DTS:X:Pro and do not anticipate using the additional channels, I have not been satisfied with the limitations of Audyssey as implemented in older Marantz products. With the AV10 I felt I'd be able to try the current version of Audyssey while still having a path to Dirac should I continue to be dissatisfied. I'm confident the AV10 should fare well for years to come, which is just what I need at this time in my life.
Great overall review. I love the way you both offer your individual takes and them discuss them, with us as the beneficiary. It's a fun format.

@@markym3870 It has proven to be exactly what I expected, a solid performer that doesn't draw attention to itself or demand a huge learning curve.
For now I've stuck with Audyssey. When DLBC becomes available I may consider Dirac but even if i don't right away, I like knowing it's an option down the road. It's expensive insurance against obsolescence [and you still just never know] but I'm happy with my decision.

Hi Andrew great review and maybe you dont know this but if you deep dive into multeq-x (and have the calibrated mic) you will find that you can import peq settings from REW and layer them onto the sound. Also you can also put the same curve on audyessy and dirac. I am not a fan of the default audyessy curve and always disable it and use shelf adjustments same as dirac.
Audyessy has an advantage as you noticed at lower levels due to Dynamic-EQ which adjusts the eq based on playback volume. Dirac does not have this and requires you to make different presets for different volumes. In my experience on Denon A1H Dirac and Audyessy when calibrated using the advanced settings produce the same sound.
There are a few recent videos on multeq-x that show how to get a lot more performance. When Dirac release Bass Control and ART then it might have an advantage over Audyessy. But we are a year away from that.
multeq-x and dirac could warrant their own deep dive videos.

Well done ! Love Marantz's contemporary looks and I have the Model30/SACD30n that started it all. The pairing featured in this video is great for those that have DEDICATED HT rooms. But for the 80% of us that don't have dedicated HT room, it's seems like an overkill. I still have and love my Sony ES Dolby Digital Receiver circa 2007 that can even do DSD audio on SACDs !

You're still singing the praises of the Somny 7000ES and I'm seriously considering the 5000ES, but I'm curious...how does Sony's room correction do compared to Audyssey and/or Dirac, especially in the bass department?

With the channel count It sort of feels like Marantz is trying to tempt those that may have considered a 16 channel Trinnov to spend a little less with them. Maybe that makes sense, but if you are up at that channel count you are a bit Money no object anyway. As Andrew points out for regular enthusiasts (like me) with a standard single row of seats an 11.2 or 11.4 receiver plugged into a value priced 11ch power amp gives just as good an experience for less coin.

The price vs performance gap for electronics is just not as wide of a chasm as it used to be, especially for Home Theater. If you are powering a full on multi-rowed home theater with the need for all the channels it can drive, I can't see where this makes sense. I get the money spent in the past when chasing sound quality and separates were the way to get the performance you can get now in an integrated
eceiver. I'm sure the few that have the need are very happy to know these products are out there!

  • @florinbizu7583
    @florinbizu7583 Рік тому +6

Let's talk about expectations from an AV flagship processor in 2023, because I'm sick and tired to wait for a much better version in term of options and audio quality rendition, comparing with the 14 years old Denon AVP A1HDA, which I owned.
Digital technology implemented in flagships AV processors (of different mass producers like the ones of the top 3 in the world - Denon, Marantz, Yamaha - not the more 'exotic' brands like Lyngdorf, StormAudio or Trinnov) has to be comparable on the level of digital components and technology used in flagships of smartphone producers like Huawei, Xiaomi, Samsung, Apple, Honor.
Because in digital tech, what is a flagship component today, will become obsolete in just a year or two... This is why in 2023, I don't want to buy old, outdated technology at an unjustified cost! Only the newest and best-performing components have to be used and I don't see this in AV10 or in the Denon AVR A1H...
In regards only to the audio side of the Marantz AV10... My level of expectation at 7000 USD (or even more) is that I need one AV unit to sound like a flagship stereo, on ALL channels!
BTW...let's be totally honest... Your thoughts are like mine...who is using a 16...19 channels configuration in a living room, or even in a dedicated home cinema room? Or zones... Zone 2, zone 3... Who is really willing to deploy kilometers of wires for zone 2 or zone 3 connections in which the end result is to play the same music everywhere, instead of separate very good quality audio components in those rooms? We are not talking about hearing the same music in corridors or on an elevator of a hotel, because who really wants this? Also, who is really using HEOS?? This is a GADGET zone, NOT a high-end area...
Sabre DAC ES 9018 used inside AV10? Why not at least ESS 9039Pro or AKM4191EQ? Or dedicated very low noise stereo DAC in dual differential mode per channel? As a flagship product in 2023, it should have!
And where is HDCD decoding? Audiophile CD format is not dead, SACD is not dead, and Dolby Digital is not dead... In the audiophile community, we are still spinning HDCD CDs, SACD discs, and DVD Audio discs - and for HDCD, we need that decoder also.
Even vinyl is not dead, and in 2023 we still not having a decent phono preamplifier for both MM and MC cartridges in a flagship AV processor...
Talking about being in 2023...where is streaming and decoding native DSD1024 audio files?
I want to see ultra-low noise separate power supplies inside of a top-of-the-line AV processor... This is the level of quality that I expect from a Marantz or Denon AV processor flagship, in 2023.
RCA connectors are made from gold-plated brass? This is NOT desirable, because of brass's low conductivity. It should be made at least from silver or gold-plated OFC copper (again... I'm modest...I'm not mentioning pure silver-made connectors...). I want to see OCC pure copper or OCC pure silver wires used in inside cabling!
Talking further...what OP-AMP is used inside? No info here...
Also, the producer did not offered no tech spec at launch in regarding DAC inside, what brand of capacitors have been used, SINAD, output volume, etc, etc..
I want an upscale even from DVD definition, to 4k and 8k resolution!
McIntosh is having same marketing and publicity policy... No detailed info regarding inside components used, and no tech info regarding very important audio performance in their flagship AV processor... Only high prices!
With all due respect for these companies and their work, for an educated audiophile this is NOT acceptable.

Totally agree. That's why I have been building Ravenna/AES67 based home theatre using PC/TV->Arvus H1-D->Merging Anubis (Digital Crossover and monitoring)->DSP PC (DRC)->Merging Hapi MKII + DA8P DAC card ->Amplifier. It costs more but has professional high-end audio quality on all channels and it is modular so I have to swap only one component if I want to improve something or a new Dolby format appears. Full digital route is the way :)

I am a 95% of the way for a fraction of the cost guy for example I am on a NAD receiver running a 5.1 with Magnepans across the front 3 but as such I want an amp with the power to feed them which may throw the cost of speakers to cost of amps ratio away from the norm, so... I like that you included various option comparisons to get the power and processing for the smaller system.

I have an Onkyo TX-RZ840, I got an IOTAVX AVXP1 power amplifier, by connecting it to the receiver I got it in the cinema, an increase in bass speed and sound power, this is a level higher than it was.
It only upsets the hum in the columns, it is not critical but unpleasant.
In stereo music, fast beam metal is played by the IOTAVX AVXP1, but jazz and classic by the Onkyo TX-RZ840.
I think a midrange receiver + power amp will beat the top receivers.

I am not in the market for a product like this. I tried to do home theater in two different rooms for over ten years without much success. BUT . . . I never took any measurements, or tried to EQ the room, let alone treat it. Setting up a traditional 2-Channel system in my retirement, with the purchase of MUCH better speakers and more powerful amps has raised all the issues of room acoustics and bass modes anew for me. I’m not after immersive sound, but I am after really good sound. When I get the room treated and the speakers initially placed, I might be in the market for a processor / amp combo that would either let me download my own hard-won EQ values (as you describe the Yamaha offering), or offer me the choice between two different EQ systems as the Marantz system you describe above. I do like the four sub outs on the Marantz, but I don’t see myself ever using more than seven speakers plus however many subs it takes to tame my room’s nodes (4 at the most).
