I think it's an rx 78 model, except it's more suited with guns, forged armors for compact and withstand highly dangerous attacks. Thus, it's the combat version of the rx 78. (Probably wrong but it's it's I know =>)
Yeah agreed, it's like a Hollywood Michael Bay transformer scanned the old RX-78-2 at Gundam Base Tokyo and decided to do his own take on it... After watching the show I find it even lamer, if it had focused on finishing off opponents it already downed instead of running off to fight the new opponent every time it gets shot from the side, it wouldn't have met such a silly end...
