- shanin blake & coral rafaella have been at the forefront of the conversation of what makes you a REAL hippie and what doesn’t. shanin is arguably far more controversial than the teenager who’s being ripped apart daily for being a “shein hippie” who’s parents happen to be rich. or, at least that’s what we know.

The hippy movement was historically largely privileged/wealthy teens and young adults so it’s fair that stereotype has stayed alive
I remember going to a total hippie college, it was so fun and they were really sweet people for the most part with good values but many of then were from huge amounts of generational wealth and had trust funds, lol
Funny but I was born to them and grew up around them and they came from ALL backgrounds
My Parents grew up poor/working class
LOLZZZZ
I know 1 Hippie personally. She does live like a true hippie no doubt but she also comes from a pretty wealthy family
The poor kids became punk rockers
No it wasn’t, and you’re being just like the ppl she criticized. I know u see this being said in so many different comment sections but it’s just not true. All classes were hippies, and even other ppl who didn’t live in the US were hippies
I think it’s funny that her definition of being Mexican is eating “homemade tacos” while growing up lol
oh I guess they talked abt it in the vid but Mexican food is so much more than TACOS lmao

My parents were metalheads, it was no surprise i turned into a scene kid so probably their parents were hippies and they rich
Lol my parents were metal heads and we like the exact same music
No surprise? I was surprised when my daughter got into music under the hyperpop and scene umbrella. It's pretty dope tho and we go to shows now. It did surprise me tho I was like where did you learn this 🫨
My parents were more into accordion and I love Korpiklaani... I guess there's still a common point?

When will people understand that the “hippie” label isn’t monolithic at all? I personally have two bonafide hippies in my life that are the polar opposite of one another:
1) My great-aunt. After she got her doctorate in psychology in 1968, she decided to go completely off the grid to live in a hut. No electricity, and the only running water was used to irrigate the large cannabis farm she cultivated. She was able to live that “free spirit” lifestyle because she made _bank_ from selling substances. After 8 years she left and has since lived a pretty typical American nuclear family life. She’s very chill and still considers herself a hippie (socially and politically) despite looking like a 2nd grade teacher.
2) My ex-boyfriend’s dad. He did come from generational wealth, but squandered his share after becoming a (deeply alcoholic) musician. He very much looks like a hippie and claims to be one, but he also subscribes to violent Q-Anon conspiracy theory stuff and owns a lot of firearms. And even tho he’s a nutjob, he fits the “correct” starving-artist hippie aesthetic that these folks seem to find more authentic.
your great aunt sounds kind of nice
sorry but #2 stopped being a hippie (if he ever was one) when Q anon got their brainwashing into him. aesthetic means nothing.
how are you gonna claim to be a hippie and own guns???
I thought it was someone who listened to 60s music, went to music festivals, wore colourful outfits, smoked weed, joined protests against war and harming the environment, you know, generally harmless people doing their own thing and trying to make the future better for the next generation.
@imaginarydrummer agreed because my own father went from #1 to #2 in this scenario and that's when "hippie" ended. Completely. He became a different person. Pot grower to Q-anon.
I have a psychotic disorder and had one episode that lasted several months that was highly spiritually focused. It do be like that. I even almost made a tiktok account to document "my knowledge" as it evolved, so it really is hard telling if she's malicious or just experiencing a mental health spiral. Unfortunate either way.
I’ve experienced this in hypomanic states, it’s so embarrassing because after you are out of that blackout you have to explain it to family and friends. 😅
Reminds me of Gabbie Hanna
Thank you for sharing that! I want you to know that You’re not alone!

Hello, my cultures constantly used and disoriented by Shanin Blake ,, I can’t speak for the other cultures but I can speak for mine . I’m Native American and a lot of her things are from our culture , the dream catcher the jewelry , ESPECIALLY the teal jewelry.
(Long read ahead !)
Most of the time natives can be quite generous , and are fine with it aslong as you get permission and it’s from a native artist.
But I can tell she didn’t do this cause the dream catcher doesn’t even have a beed in the middle , the feathers looked tore and messed up, not taken care of. Aswell as dream catchers are supposed to be blessed , by doing a ritual , and supposed to be hanged over a certain spot over a BED, it’s a car.
And the jewelry , a lot of her jewelry is specifically used for dancers, and pow wows ,not common use, or everyday use, culturally significant events.
It’s just, disrespectful. If she got permission or had it gifted to her and actually handled the items correctly I could care less, but the way that dream catcher looks is so sad..it ain’t even a dream catcher at that point where’s the BEAD??,looks like something from hobby lobby 💀
I’ve seen non natives be gifted jewelry or even full regalia, damn one of by grandmother’s best friends were a nonnative singer that she taught the language and culture and dances and songs herself , and he became very well known and appreciated for it, and guess what, he respected our culture !
There’s a way to Learn and want to be involved with a culture then turning it into a aesthetic and romanticizing it , I get pocohontas really did damage but Jesus-
And the reason why it’s so important to me and other natives is because historically we had to fight to keep our culture , and we lost a lot of our culture , so the traditions we still have are very important and we hold dear due to losing everything
I agree fully, and I feel pissed even if its not in my place to make any decisions. If I was given or gifted such a beautiful thing I’d be studying that shit and spreading the message, obviously she has no idea what shes doing😭
We had a dream catcher fad in my college once. I was one of those diy crafts enthusiasts and took a look at dream catchers and was able to figure out how they were made. I made several that I gave away to some friends, and was fascinated with the myth surrounding it. I just wanna say, your culture is so beautiful and we really appreciate you sharing it with the world.
@@mick6247 All of my mom’s siblings married a Native American, and I have a dream catcher my uncle made for me hanging above my bed. When I had to live in a dorm this past year it hung above my bed there too. Native American culture is fascinating. I will NEVER understand people like Shanin or those that are bigoted against any group. I think it’s really cool that you tried to educate in your comments as well, wishing you all the best :)
I’m native as well and I actually never knew this about dream catchers. I knew I was supposed to bless it and hang it over my bed but I just have a question.
What should I do with it now? My cats tore off the middle feather and the one I have doesn’t have a bead (my sister made it for me), so what should I do now? :(
I’m punk and I finally understand why the punks from the original movement didn’t like hippies as much because there were mainly rich people and only wanted peace, and while punks liked peace they didn’t ignore the fucked up systems and how rich people were (and are). Correct me if I’m wrong, and sorry if it’s not relevant, but I learned that from this.
I’m bipolar and I’ve experienced psychotic mania. I was IMMEDIATELY concerned she may be manic after hearing that girl thought she could heal her kidneys with her mind. Yes you shouldn’t be diagnosing strangers on the internet but she’s behaving in a way that reminds me of my own symptoms during an episode, sooo 😬
Omg same I also have diagnosed bipolar and was in a similar position she was in when I was having a manic episode.
I saw someone in the comments of that video say that kidney infections can cause psychosis when left untreated and they think that’s what’s happening with her
@@Thathestiadevotee Oh wow, that’s interesting but so sad. Sooo many things can cause psychosis it’s crazy.

Hey kids, we don't call these ones hippies, we call them Trustafarians. We've been calling them that since the 80's.
So I'm a trainee at my local buddhist temple and when my teacher is put I'll manage the temple, I'll assist guests, make them tea, do chants for people and basically give spiritual council as best I can 😅😂🧘♀️🤷♀️
These people always want to be able to manifest and stuff without doing any of the meditation practice or work :P 😅 like I'll either tell then to wait for my teacher and ask him about it, or share some dharma about it.
They'll be like ," pffft. That's just words. Texts ✋️💀🙈"
Like yeah lol, 3000 years of zen masters writing and practicing on this very topic but DENNIS tripped DMT one time and has it all figured out lol 😂❤
I just told him, well please share your technique with us if you figure it out lol.
Those people are often very disappointed that there's no fabulous secret to zen/enlightenment, and it's actually very ordinary.
Noted.
Not really related to the topic, but I have a hippie girl in my class (she has claimed to be one). She is very intelligent, very kind, and is actually not insane. A couple months ago she was talking about putting up signs in her front yard about peace and love. So I fw hippies.
Its tiktok, nothing you see is real, most hippies are normal cool people
Tiktok hippies are fake. But 90% of the time, REAL hippies are so sweet. And it’s so sad that fake hippies have given them a bad rep

@@aotctdnot all hippies culturally appropriate even though it is an issue among some of them you can’t generalize and say that it’s all hippies. Rich people cosplaying poverty makes me angrier than anything. Being homeless isn't a joke, living in a van isn't fun when you're forced to and don't know where your next meal is coming from. Having to sell your body just to survive isn't fun. These people make me actually sick.

I am an elder millennial, and this is definitely something that I saw 20 years ago. Also, the only difference is there is a massive amount of social media now make this more visible. I remember the rich kids going to college and adopting a very “hippie” lifestyle, having money to buy weed, growing their hair long, and instead of fast fashion stuff it was very much going to the thrift store to buy a new wardrobe. Lots of tie-dye, lots of listening to Phish and Radiohead. Same idea, different generation.
You could always tell which room they were in because you could smell the weed mixed with fabric softener sheets rolled up inside of toilet paper tube as a filter seeping out from underneath the dorm room doors lol

And had a iPhone 4 that had to be plugged directly into a wire to connect to the internet, and her daughter was homeschooled for 2 reasons:
1. She lived in the middle of nowhere Texas so there weren't any public schools nearby anyway.
2. Protect her daughter from "corruption" and stuff.
At least she paid him generously and invited him and my sister to her housewarming party and sent a Christmas card, apparently a very sweet woman🤷♀️

Sounds more like an esotheric connspiracy theorist. I have a book about a similar conspiracy theory where they claim that there are specific earth rays that are bad for you and that you can use specific stuff (in that case specific expensive corc plates that - not sus at all - got sold by the guy that made the book) and there are a lot of similar theories out there. Hippie culture often overlaps with those theories because of the spiritual part of it and due to that they often also get sucked into right wing ideologies which also really relay on spiritual conspiracies. That's why you often see right wingers, q anon people, anti vaxxers, hippies and similars march together on related demonstrations.

I just want to point out that the person in a big house is Polish and the houses are often passed from generation to generation - they don't live in a modern mansion qs many may believe but in a generational home in a countryside that was affordable at the time it was built. Contrary to the rumor their clothes aren't store bought since we don't have any big hippie brands in Poland, these things were either self made, passed down or thrifted.. The faces they make are funny for sure but they're like 13 yo. Just wanna clear the name of my fellow Pole 🇵🇱 since nobody cares about it
Eastern european here from Romania who grew up with as a metalhead in hippie friend groups I can confirm this is happening here too. There aren't many big brands where to get any alternative clothing to begin with so everyone is thrifting and DIY-ing the best they can. If you do want any big brands, shipping is expensive as fuck and their prices are inflated on the market because import. And also mansions mostly exist at the countryside due to cost here as well.
We have Lookah which is a "hippie" chain and they have stores in multiple cities. You're right about the house, it might've been passed down for generations, and they might have a big family living together (it's not uncommon). The whole 'Hippie' Aesthetic is predicated on people taking parts of other cultures and just using it as that only, surface level looks. Like clip in dreadlocks on white women, holy mandalas from other religious practices. It's a grab bag of stuff from many other people and cultures without showing respect or understanding of it. In this day and age, and with even the original 'Hippies' it's a phase that they can grow out of or take off when they have to go back to their nice jobs that pay well as the OG hippies where usually well enough to go dick around for a few months and be supported. It was like rp-ing as poor but then going back to your nice home when you don't want to sleep rough in a tent anymore. I'm not saying the message of peace and love is wrong, but it felt sort of hollow then and now. To preach it, but to not ever fully divest yourself from your wealth and privilege you got from the inequality of the minority groups your taking your 'style' from.

I would just like to point out there is this video I saw of a girl doing an indigenous dance, but she had a literally moved to a community with those indigenous people. She was taking lessons from those people. She was excepted by those people that’s a completely different experience 😭😭😭 one that I think Jamaica deserves… instead of just being looked at as like a sex, tourism spot
Well, I'm half Scot with Jamaican heritage, like Marley, hate what the new film looks like
Also grew up around Protogoth and was Goth
And find it interesting everyone is imitating Us
@@aotctd I thought I responded to the sooner I am so sorry I was rearranging the house yesterday…. they want to be your so bad it’s creepy.
It’s just a little uncanny to me.. especially since a lot of them put in faux locks… my mom’s hair is locked and I know a lot of people with locked hair and none of them look like for locks so when I see them I cringe a little
It’s making me not know what to do because I really want this song. I wanna listen to the song but I feel like I can’t listen to it more than like once a month because every time I hear it if somebody was fake locks with their hands out spinning in a circle 🥹
I just want to say that I appreciate you. Thank you for you hang in there I really don’t know what to say because it’s not my place to say whether or not this is appropriate and or appreciation. I just hope that it doesn’t become too problematic or too annoying I hope people simmer down because I cannot imagine how uncomfortable it must be to be a an actual Jamaican or worse be the same mix as Marley right now because it feels very much like you guys are being fetishized
I am so sorry for how uncomfortable the world is being right now

I had a kidney infection and it was YEARS ago. I have never been so sick.
It’s so sad that the early hippie movement’s history of activism is just completely forgotten. Hippies were big in the civil rights and women’s rights movements in the 60s, and even when I was a kid had some level of association with animal and environmental rights. Now it’s really been reduced to a music/fashion thing.
I have no problem with people expressing themselves through fashion even though I think the "Hippie Aesthetic" itself is cringe. It's when they start spreading harmful information like "You can cure serious illnesses through spiritual means" or "Lyran is the race" (Lyran is often associated with a race of feline-like beings believed to have contributed to Earth’s cosmic heritage) That's a huge issue, Your leading your young and impressionable fans to actually believe this information you're spreading as fact which could cause harm to them either physically or mentally.
One of the alien races she keeps talking about and says she is a part of is some straight up Hitler white supremacy shit.
Alien Cats huh? Is that why the aliens in Avatar are so cat like? did they take the idea from there?
lol Hippie Aesthetic
lol Fashion
Your music taste is so real tbh
ESPECIALLY SHANIN BLAKE SHE'S ANNOYING
can we just talk about how she popped off w her makeup for this video? im in love w it it's so good.......
I've already heard of that one girl with draids and and ummmm man the world is failing it's self
Your expressions and this makeup
💀🖤💋🖤
I think Shanin might also be in a relationship with her cousin since she filmed a Tik tok with a dude and said he was her cousin in the caption but he also posted some photos with her where they seemed a little too close on his instagram.

As someone who relates to your content and hippie culture, i found this video quite amusing. Thank you for stay at yappersville everyone 😂
This has actually pissed me off so much. Hippies originated from teenagers/young adults in the 60s with super rich parents going against they’re rules and just wanting peace for the world. So yes she lives in a big house that costs who knows how much but again for 1 she’s a teen and 2 ITS HER PARENTS HOUSE!!! She’s a hippie, very close to the ones in the 60s. Yes, some of what she does is culture appropriation but I have not seen ONE PERSON make a stitch video or comment explaining things to her, especially since she’s polish she won’t understand much in english. Instead of explaining things to her everyone’s just hating on the girl and it’s horrible.
No, not every hippie came from rich parents
Mine came from POOR and WORKING CLASS PARENTS
Greetings fron the Grunge
And before that Goth Generation
@@aotctd didn’t say it was every hippie but that is how the movement started.
This house is not as impressive as people think, it looks like a typical 90's countryside polish house. Yes, big, but it was clearly passed from grandparents to her parents. Rich poles have a certain asthetic and this girl is not having it 😂
I can’t believe that people, including Drama Kween are literally bullying a child, this is pathetic honestly
4:54 as a Polish guy I WAS NOT expecting her to be from my country even tho I knew about this discourse on Tiktok lmao
I was growing up in country having borders with Poland ,so I can confidently say that what we are seeing in the child foto it's not that parents are hippies, it's clearly foto from carneval ( dressing party in school) we had that really every year and I see in the picture other girl as princess, and that's doesn't mean her parents are royals .... I will say that in that period was Winnetou very popular film played over and over again and this was version on looking like " indian " almost every girl was dressed as Ribanna ( from Carl may movie) and boys as winnetou .
We had more than 70 % of our clas dressing this way and the parents wasn't really hippies ,it's goes with popularity of the film and that it was not really " party shop" to buy dress so mostly parents had to made something home ,most girl was dressed exactly as that girl of was princess, wasn't really much more ....
you can be rich and be a hippie. its not about how much money you have, its about how you live and your values.
as someone who is genuinely into reggae, spirituality, and is not white i’ve always found it very ironic how the hippie subculture or movement in the us is historically majority white despite the ideologies (equality for all kinds of people etc.). i’ve met many people like this that i do sometimes feel uncomfortable around lol
As someone born into Bohemian I find it funny how I grew up around all colors
And loved how people from all over the world people from the original cultures with deeply spiritual backgrounds came together to live the Culture
As a white person with west indian heritage i love how the city i grew up in was Dread Central with original rastas mingling with everyone and reggae blasting out of numerous stores
I love how the cultures pioneered green movements, egalitarian views, free speech, intercultural interaction, recycling etc
Also love your mixed styles mixed up with our generation's and culture's street and avantgarde styles when we were growing up as children and teens
Also ADORE some of your favorited videos culture vulturing my cultures
0:10 😂😂😂😂 why did i laugh till i fell of my chair
Thanks for healing my constipation, ur a real one 💕
I fell deep into spiritual psychosis during college due to my severe PTSD. Went down the conspiracies of starseed races, 5G sicknesss…you name it I was falling for it. Now I know these same conspiracies have ties to racism, antisemitic ideologies, and overall aren’t great. I’m a spiritual person still and live by some “hippie ideals” but I don’t seek out conspiracies without looking at the full picture. Also don’t practice cultural appropriation and never did. There’s a thin line between delusional and spiritual and I do my best to check myself and I’m lucky to have friends that check me too.
You are SO underrated . New Sub!! Love your vibes 🖤
I mean, a good chunk of the original hippies were from rich families (they were going to ivy league colleges when they were protesting the Vietnam War) 😂.
Fun fact the hippie and boho aesthetic was formed from the romanticizing/sexualizing of romani people (or gypsys as people tag them most as despite that being a slur to make fun and harm the culture) by the french, same with boho, if you really like the "hippie/boho" aesthetic please look into supporting a romani/sindi artist and spread more information about these aesthetics being harmful to the spreading of stereotypes about the romani, you can watch Florida.Florian who is all about the supporting of Romani people and stopping the harmful hate towards this minority.
As a Polish, the house is not a traditional polish home... She's definitely richer than most of the population. Most of us live in the blocks.

6:52 help its sounds KINDA like cyn from murder drones I'm dieing
Thank you 😂 I’m tired of arguing with people about what a hippie is
Well, maybe you should leave it to the people who grew up Hippie ?
You know Care more about your Culture
Or Our Old Cultures

No way I love you so much drama kween!!!! Your amazing I've seen so many of your videos and been a subscriber for so so long! Your beautiful and amazing I hope you know that your videos always make us smile💓💓 I CANNOT believe I'm this early
Those "hippies" are just fake hippies with shein clothes and with a decored room saying "omgg guys im am a hippie don't talk to me anymoree" like?- do they even know what is hippie? It has such a story and meaning to in the new days they just post to dancing to a music? Literally BRAINROOTTTT
YESSSS BEEN NEEDING THIS VIDEO!!
It screams native American/ south Asian cultural appropriation to me. I'm Buddhist and the white aggressive use of chakra symbolism is so painful.
5:07 YES THE CATS ARE POLISH!1!1!1!
My country mentioned🗣.I agree with 4:50 cause yeah her house looks like everyone grandparents house in polish(sorry if i made mistake, i dont know english very well)
it kinda annoys me that people will hate on those hippie teenagers. theyre, quite obviously, kids, and its likely that they dont know about most that stuff or knows what it means.
Leave the teens alone. Blame the adults.
The problem people have isn’t really as shallow as “rich bad”, it’s mainly due to the visible cultural appropriation that happens in hippie spaces and performative activism. It’s like when people say they’re goth but don’t actually like anything goth other than the aesthetic, or conservative punks
bruh this reminds me of that one south park episode where Cartman drove all the hippies outta town with rock music. now everyone time i think about shanin or any other hippie in general, i always think to that episode, and how right cartman was
There is so much more to unpack about Shanin. There are in-depth analysis on what all those lyrics really are (spoiler alert- those are n*zi dogwhistles) so yeah, they definitely need to be studied. Btw love your stuff, keep going!
9:19 “and I'm not racist because I eat rice.”
Honestly I’d rather have rich people be promoting peace and love and no war than what they are promoting now 💀 rich hippies isint the worst thing
i love the hairstyle in this video
Oh wow! Hi spirit! I love your animations!
@@LPS_enthusiast hi! :3
Agreed kween is too pretty
The thing that gets me is the appropriation you see with a lot of fake hippies, and that’s what makes someone a fake in my opinion, plundering whatever you want from whoever, without even hearing them on why they don’t appreciate you partaking. That and a lot of the time they don’t even understand/respect the meaning of whatever symbol they’re using. This is actually how I lost a friend, she wanted a tattoo of a religious symbol she didn’t understand and wasn’t apart of for aesthetics. I also don’t like the implication that black hair/textured hair is somehow a deviation from what's 'normal' and 'okay' societally. Otherwise why would they have them in if not to be anti-establishment.
apart means the opposite of '' a part ''
apart means '' not a part of ''
sorry pet peeve lol !
The Norway shade! 😂😭
I juslove the outfit and makeup queen, and the absolute unhinged energy of this video
My parents were hippies in the late 60s, early 70s. They come from very modest French Canadian families . My mom was making all her clothing, even her jackets.
DRAMA KWEEN MENTIONING POLAND!?!?!?! 🇵🇱🇵🇱🇵🇱
9:30 Cherokees never lived in teepees…. that word comes from the Lakota language I believe and mostly plains people and people in the pacific northwest used them as dwellings? She is just wrong
I gotta say, you really knocked it out of the park with your makeup! Looks stunning
Are you not going to try to diagnose that because I’m not a doctor and that’s not my place, but some of the things that she goes on about are the exact same type of crazy incoherent rants that I hear really often from my brother-in-law. He legitimately thinks that he is responsible For every single piece of media that has been made within the last 20 years; and he truly believes that most people are droids in that the Earth is not real and everything is an underground simulation. And people that go on about things like this and truly believe it needs serious mental help. Also people like her talking out of their head like that are the reason that regular people think that those of us who are practicing pagans are crazy because we get lumped in with those people.
Rich kids pretending to be cultured, and educated whilst dressing like poor people then pretending too be poor. These types of people are far from removed from reality.Pretending to be poor is very insulting.
I'm always impressed by your make-up with each video!
You know that a lot of hippies at that time were also rich kids
