Dave, the switches for the Fan and Wiper motor look identical to those out of The 2000 series Massey Ferguson aswell... Except The 2000 series has a 2 speed fan..... If I remember from other videos of your cab refurbishment The 1200 is an on/off.... Maybe you could compare by part numbers
The Ferguson Scotch Yoke four puston pump was used exclusively for the hydraulic three point linkage. A seperate bekt driven gear pump operated the auxiliary hydraulics (spool valves).
Massey Ferguson ran out of money. I was in the Sudan, early 80's when an aquantance gave me a copy of Time Magazine and the last page had an article and l remember the title given its influence "Massey Ferguson goes into a Stall". The financial loss was staggering. Victor Rice, CEO, arranged a record breaking bail out. During this time the knife came out to make drastic cost cutting actions.
@@MasseyDave The 188 axles used in the 1200 were at their limit and I thought the 1250 used 1080 axles in a similar configuration. Upgraded brakes, additional lift cylinder, larger lift arms etc. The 188 axles were way beyond its capacity when OPICO and others put a turbo on the dot4 engines.
Hi Dave my 1250 doesn't have that flat plate at the back with the hydraulic spools going through it ,the spools look factory fitted with brackets and the trailer socket is fitted to the frame and also looks as it its been there since new with original paint in the right places I think, is it missing or did it never have one fitted in your opinion Dave thanks 👍to vid
Looks to be twice the work to restore them compared to a normal tractor , must be 6 months work in that doin it right to get the engine and back end all separated from the chassis
100 Series and 1200's used the same transmission casting al la ,135. The internals changed with the constant mesh gears mainly to give 1000 rpm PTO. Lots of other parts are used across the 100 Series, reverse idler, hi/lo reduction etc. Across the 100 Series constant mesh ratios changed to meet wheel/tyre options and maximum speed restrictions. 1200 had different constant mesh gears to give the 25kph box.
They should have used 1080 parts but l understand cost was an issue. The into was similar to 100 Series. As with 100 Series there were different suppliers for the plates and the ipto did change with an upgrade when they changed the driveline to multi splined shafts. This happened at 900243 then again at 900795.
@@grahamclark7594the 100 series didn’t have ipto, it was a gear to engage. We still have 2 x 178’s at home which would be similar vintage and our neighbours had a 188.
Just pulled out my 100 Series manual, ipto available on 148, 165, 168, 185 and 188. We had a contractor using 188's on Howard side spreaders and if they didn't wind the chains then we had issues with the packs slipping on start up and burning put. Other iptos never gave us any problems
Thank you for sharing your knowledge of these old machine, I personally would love a 1130 no cab, anyhow wishing you a Merry Christmas

Great walk-through.
Very informative Dave thank you
Very very informative
Did they have the same size yoke pump for the 3 pt? Would have been nice to have these on smaller dairy farms in the USA.
If there was a second steering ram on the other side would probably been a better job to balance the damping.
What were the lift arms off?
I believe they were the lift arms used on the 1080

Didn't the 1250 have the rear axle from the 1080? These video's bring back some of my best memories in my farming career.
Bigger than the 1200

Dave would you be interested in buying or restoring olly blogs 1200 ?
Got a waiting list atm !

Is the gearbox the same as a mf 135? 😮
The case is

@colinelliott8417 yes a lot of work
Which pump supplied the pto clutch?
How similar are these to the American made 1805?
Car engine in bigger ones I think ?! And all lot bigger on everything else
Have you ever seen jt's barn and grill, he has one and fitted it with a drive shaft with uj's and a sliding shaft
Only in looks and styling.
🏆
The unexpected Sunday video threw me off…
There was a rumour within MF that a higher horsepower stronger unit was supposedly built and tested. Cannot substantiate that unfortunately.
Do you think you would ever do a mf 1800
Never say never , but got a long waiting list atm
Why didn't they use the 188 MF gear box?

I thought the back end was the back end off the 1080? Because of the ipto, and the heavier lift arms?

Sorry Mike, 188's had ipto. Had many spread across the workshop floor
