    As an Angel breeder of many years standing. I will totally recommend this video. Apart from feeding the young angel dried food, this can cause bowel troubles and death. So I only feed my young live foods until they are the size of my thumb nail.

    Very informative --- no where had I heard the importance of the young making it to the surface of the water. I had an extra air hose lightly going into a breeder box thru the little feeder hole. I didn't realize it was making it harder for the young Angels to get to the surface thereby hindering their life sustaining air sacks. I thought I would get used to the narrators voice delivery -- but didn't.

      Hello, and thanks for watching the video. I'm assuming you live in Florida where the water is hard due to the limestone bedrock. Many commercial angelfish breeders are located in Florida, and they're successfully breeding them in Florida water. The angels will usually adapt to harder water. I use rain water to soften my water if needed.

      Can you sex them when they are nickel size? Seems like I would have to take a chance and get a group. For the ones that don't pair up, can I return them or give them to the local store? You start with one tank and end up with 5 of them! I want to keep it simple.

    • @davidparton9158
      @davidparton9158 9 місяців тому

      Not sure if you can tell at that size. As far as the "single" fish not sure what to tell you.If you are going to breed them you are going to need more than 1 tank so you could always have a tank for singles until they match up with another fish.Figuring out how to tell the sex of an angelfish is tough. Only when you watch male and female angelfish pairing off can you tell the difference between them.

    Awesome video as usual!! I listened to your video about raising baby albino plecos with success. I was wondering when you put the eggs in a tank for hatching. Do you use a sterile tank or a well established tank ? I've got a 5 gallon 2 year old tank that has plants currently. I know I will remove everything. I wondered how full I need to fill it at first for eggs. I guess I drip acclamation from the parents' tank into the 5 gallon tank. Could you give me instructions for the water gallons amount. Or instructions for that part, please. I'm going to refer back to your video and hopefully save the angels' eggs.

    • @TheDave333
      @TheDave333  Рік тому

      I use a bare tank to hatch the eggs because it's easier to make sure things are kept clean. It's also easier to see, and eventually catch the fry when it's time to move them. Fill the tank with clean dechlorinated water. Leave room so that you can put your whole hand into the tank without it over-flowing. You can also use the water from the breeding tank. Keep an air-stone near the eggs to keep the water moving over them. It's fine to remove the eggs from the water briefly, it won't harm them. You could do all of this in a well-established planted tank, but if you decide to use anti-fungal chemicals, it might be a problem. It's also harder to catch the fry when you need to. Better to go with a bare tank.

      Hi, I've followed your directions. I'm almost on 48 hours after fry was laid on breeder cone temperature is 80 to 81 degrees. I'm using peroxide every 24 hours. When do I stop using peroxide? I can see the babies inside the eggs!! Wow! Should I Lower the Aeration at a certain time? I'm so excited ! The eggs are in a 5 gallon aquarium in distilled water by themselves. Do I put a seeded sponge or brand new sponge ? When do I put it in ? I heard you say to decrease the water level to 2.5 gallon once they start trying to swim. I'm sorry for all the questions, but I can't find anyone on utube that does your method. I really appreciate your helping me!

    Thank you so much, I think thus video is well well explained and it will help me a lot. Congratulations, because the video quality was sharp and amazing and I understand and enjoy every minute of it. I am new at this and I have a bunch of questions and most was answered here,but still I have to question probably dumb one, but still need to know first my angels are in a 65 gallon tank (I think) and I have an electrical filter I am almost sure the fry will be swallowed by it what should I do? I think putting some fabric tull in it, we wasn’t ready for this lol and I don’t have no place to put them, the put the eggs on the filter wall,and the second question is that if they hatch I had to feed them the micro worm?? The parents are very close to them at all time and very protected of them, (they put the eggs yesterday) I hope you see my comment and answer me back. And thanks

      Sorry it took a few days to answer your question, but I've been on vacation with no cell service!!! They make sponges to go over the filter intake that will keep the fry from being sucked up by the filter (intake sponge filter). However, a piece of pantyhose / nylons will work in an emergency. Micro worms will work for the babies, but baby brine shrimp are better.

    Thank you for compiling such wonderful information! At one point you mention keeping just one angel as a centerpiece fish. I have a 29 gallon I want to stock with rummynose tetras and an angel- is keeping only one stressful to it? Would it be better to get two to keep it happy? I don't care if they breed, but I don't like the idea of them terrorizing my other fish, either...

    • @TheDave333
      @TheDave333  2 роки тому +1

      Keeping only one angel as a centerpiece fish is fine, and it doesn't seem to affect them in a negative way. And it will make your life much easier. Large rummy nose tetras should be too big and too fast for the angel to catch and eat.

      Hi! Thanks for watching another one of my videos. I haven't forgotten the beautiful C.P.D.s However, my immediate plan is to tackle two of the more popular species first. Guppies/Endlers are next, and then Breeding Bettas. This order is due to a combination of personal interests, and subject popularity, as well as in all honesty, money from ad revenue.
      After Guppies and Bettas, C.P.D.s are certainly a very real possibility. :-)

      While it's true I would still like to see CPD's get the Dave (or should that be the The Dave 😂) treatment, the fact is the videos you put out are such high quality, it's a treat each time a new one appears, regardless of species.
      I do understand that there will be a number of factors involved in deciding which species to cover next, not least of which must be the personal interest and passion that prompts you to put the time and energy into creating such professional videos.
      On that note, I'll finish up by wishing you and yours an early Merry Christmas and Best Wishes for a Happy New Year.

    What if I want to keep some angelfish in a community aquarium and I am not interested in breeding. Just want a peaceful group of angelfish. I have a tall aquarium, 36" x 22" and 30" tall. can this be done? By the way, your video and expertise are brilliant! Beautiful photography as well.

    • @TheDave333
      @TheDave333  Рік тому

      Young angels will get along for a while, but as they reach sexual maturity, they will start fighting as they prepare to breed. There's no permanent way to stop them from becoming aggressive, so keeping a group of them together when they're adults will be very difficult. . . It could be done, but there will be lots of fighting, and eventually someone will get hurt.

    Im 60 years old and have had angels since i was 16. I have never had them lay eggs ever. I've had marble, Calico, silver angelsr that were approx 4 to 5 years of age. I would say they had paired off. Do you need the slate to get them to breed? I also used to have algae eaters...now adays bristlenose plecos. Are they maybe eating the eggs...even though I have never seen any eggs? I know I had a male and female

    • @TheDave333
      @TheDave333  Місяць тому

      @djolly50
      Angelfish will lay their eggs on any vertical surface (aquarium glass, heater, pump tubing, decorations, plant leaves etc.) They don't necessarily need the slate. However, it's best to provide them with a piece or two, so that you have the option of easily removing the eggs if you need to.
      The easiest road to success is to have a tank devoted just to the breeding pair. . . No other fish. . .
      Community tanks are not a good place to try and breed angelfish. Algae eaters and bristlenose plecos will eat the eggs if they have a chance.
      So, keep things as simple as you can. Single species tank, a mature pair of fish, lots of warm clean water, lots of protein rich food. Some smooth jazz really helps too. . . Best of Luck.

    Fantastic video just what I’ve been looking for but now I have a question. My angels have always eaten their eggs within six hours after laying them and this has gone on for two years now, so this time I pulled the eggs out of the tank after spawning was complete. They are on a long sword leaf that extends from the top of the half gallon jar to the bottom with the largest amount of eggs at the top of the leaf I have Meth. Blue in the water and only 14 eggs turned white out of approximately 150 (this jar was all I had on hand at the time). Now last night they hatched and I need to do a water change I use RO water. My question is will it be safe to lower the water exposing some of the wrigglers to air while doing this? (I’m preparing a ten gallon tank to put the fry in when they become free swimming) Or do you suggest I just move the leaf to the tank now? Please help!

    • @TheDave333
      @TheDave333  Рік тому

      You can shake the leaf, so that the wrigglers come off and remain in the water at all times. It's okay if they come off of the leaf. It is not safe to expose the wrigglers to the air for more than a second or two. However, I would move the wrigglers as soon as you have the 10G ready. The key is to avoid shocking the babies with rapid temp. changes or changes in water chemistry. So, make all changes very slowly. If possible use the water from the jar to partially fill the 10G, then use airline tubing and an airline valve to slowly drip new clean water into the 10G. Keep the water as clean as you can, and the temperature nice and steady.

    • @bsears55
      @bsears55 Рік тому +1

      @@TheDave333 Thanks for the information! While I was waiting for your reply, I simply rigged up a bucket with fresh water the same temp and PH and dripped it in the jar with airline tubing and a valve while with another piece of tubing and a air stone on the end in the jar and a drip valve on the other I dripped the old water out at the same rate. I removed about 3/4 of the jar volume to assure I got at least half the old water out of the jar. I done this twice in a 24 hour period. Now the water in the jar is clear instead of blue from the meth. blue and the wrigglers are looking just fine. Am I safe in saying that I don’t need to put any meth. Blue back in because I am changing the water twice a day now? I will be moving them to the 10 gallon tomorrow with same temp., PH, KH & GH and from my understanding of your video I will then only need to do a 50% water change once a day correct, and how long do I keep this up? I also wanted to let you know that I am 66 years old, handicap and live alone but I have been keeping and breeding fish since I was 7 but never angels before now and I am trying to get it right while I can still stand for short periods. You and your videos are very helpful thanks.

    • @TheDave333
      @TheDave333  Рік тому +1

      I'm so happy that my videos are helpful. You don't need to add meth. blue back into the tank/jar. That's just for the eggs/fungus, so the water should now be clear. I'm a big fan of small frequent water changes. In the early post-hatching stage, I do two 50% water changes each day (morning and night). Each time I change the water, I clean up the mulm/poop on the bottom of the tank.

    • @TheDave333
      @TheDave333  11 місяців тому +1

      Be sure to provide them with a safe place to lay the eggs. Be sure the water is clean and they have plenty of food. The rest is up to them. . . There's not much you can do other than provide them a safe, clean, quiet place to spawn. Either the male or the female should start cleaning the site where they expect to lay the eggs, so look for that behavior.

    • @TheDave333
      @TheDave333  3 роки тому

      @ Arvind nagsai
      The attacker is probably a male angelfish trying to assert its dominance. The other fish could be rival males. I would watch them very closely. Adult angelfish can get very aggressive.. . . What you do next depends on your goals. Are the other angelfish females? Are you trying to breed them? Sexually mature angelfish don't always get along, and the the smaller the tank, the worse the problem becomes. . . If you don't intend on breeding them, I would remove the aggressive fish. Angelfish are social when they're young, but as they get older they get more aggressive.

    Absolutely brilliant - great information and splendid photography. I have a prolific breeding pair which have not failed giving me fertilized eggs. I typically transfer the eggs to a separate tank where I incubate and hatch the eggs. My challenge is raising the fry. Despite frequent water changes and frequent feeds of baby brine shrimp I seem to have an inordinate loss. My question is the importance of genetic diversity. The parents (which are the result of a previous spawn) gave me the spawning pair (F1.) Might my poor survival be a reflection of the lack of genetic diversity? Thanks again for this wonderful video.
