My favorite video in a very very very long time. If there's one thing we're missing here in the US it's the ACCO. With the low entry cab here pretty much my dream chassis. Just that one shot of it on that open door side in the first few seconds of the vid though have got me pausing at 0:14 and gawking lol. And then replaying the first 20 seconds over and over to get some of that rotating beacon action as it reflects off the alley walls. Anyway the ACCO is cool enough on its own but with the JM Series it's perfect. The paring of a chassis usually toting a much bigger body with a smaller rear loader gets me excited. The sort of machine which feels like a full size truck but fits into all the tight spots (like these CBD alleys) with no stress on the part of the driver. 7:26 shows off the truck's perfect proportions nicely. A small machine still gets that low and long look with a body only as tall as the cab. And cast spoke wheels in black! Just keeps getting better.
That JM packer wasn't as fast as I expected but sadly many of the trucks I'm used to are also saddled with those slow hydraulics. You'd think there wouldn't be an excuse for sluggishness on a body whose smaller bore cylinders place much less flow demand on the pump than something full sized but probably just an issue of turning a set screw somewhere. ;) Still loads of good packing entertainment to be had, 10:07 is great starting the cycle with a full hopper and the bin down. A route like this is sort of like the saltine challenge for rear loaders. Choking down that dry bulky cardboard is no easy task. What is that, an 8m body? Then 2-3 tonnes of dry cardboard is very impressive. Maybe not so much today but when the price of OCC was way up there essentially packing dollar bills.
How do commercial collections in Melbourne work? Is it all awarded as a single contract to CityWide or are there multiple smaller contracts, open market areas where each customer arranges for collection with the company of their choice, or some combination of these?
Aside from the awesome equipment I really enjoyed every aspect of the video. A nice mix of driving shots, views of every side of the truck, that cool ground level perspective, changing evening lighting conditions where the rotating beacons and lit up signage on the buildings really stand out, and of course the bustling backdrop of the CBD. Really enjoyed it, I can only offer a well earned subscription and the encouragement to go out and film much more. Great job. :)

Sorry for the late reply! Thank you, I had a feeling this video might have sparked some interest around the world especially from the US. Agreed, I have always wondered what an Acco would be like in the US and I'm quite surprised Iveco hasn't done some sort of promotion or even sent a Demo up there! Might kill off other manufactures? I've always seen and thought that the American SL's are rather slow compared to ours. Yep, always good when you film a truck with its original rotating beacons haha, the Acco goes great with this JM body and I wish there was more like that truck rather than the mixture of Isuzu's and Hino's. It's good to see a beefed up Acco tackling the mini lane-ways of Melbourne, even better when it has spokes ;)
I will have to agree though, the packer on the JM was rather slow. I wasn't expecting it to be that slow either, was actually expecting a faster packer and I'm surprised it went alright with the cardboard. Perhaps you needed an alan key or a screw driver to make some adjustments to the packer speed? The boys were giving it a good run though since having the hopper fully loaded for the packer to chew through. I would say it is an 8m, 2 - 3 tonnes is quite good for it but yeah I heard cardboard prices are on the decline especially with new companies coming in and out.
Well Citywide is mainly owned by the City of Melbourne, there is a fleet of trucks for Melbourne and then there is always a fleet for Private Commecial work. But all of the Melbourne Council waste is contracted out to Citywide. Although for Markets, recently Citywide lost the Prahran Market and Queen Victoria Market contracts to Premier Waste. Those two contracts were not Melbourne City Council contracts, they are contracts tendered out by the City of Melbourne. Although the majority of shops in the Melbourne Council border is serviced by the Melbourne City Council Citywide contract otherwise it cab be done by a private Citywide Contract. Pretty confusing but yeah ahah.
Cheers for that, was certainly something different to film. I did try my best with the shots and it seems like many have approved of this. The beacons were a stand out ;) Thank you.

Bloody awesome! Fantastic to see some Melbourne commercial work, would love to see more C&I action from down in VIC, definitely need the entertainment :D Oi so this service you videoed is actually provided through the City of Melbourne contract, this isn't CityWide's own jobs? Looks like this starts in the afternoon and works through the evening, you know what time they finish up? Mad to see this truck in action finally, always wondered if it would pop up on UA-cam, great to see another JM for the first time in a while, they're pretty rare these days! Never expected it was a low entry either, only saw it from the RHS and assumed it was a normal cab - does this one do in/out residential work or always in the CBD? I was hoping you'd get a shot like 7:30, just so we can see the truck as a whole and show the ACCO, proper exhaust side too..... bet it sounded twice as mean in person but ey! Gotta say I'm surprised at that packer speed but, thought it'd be a tonne faster, like so much engine rev, but so little cycle speed. Pretty crap they've gotta deal with all these 1100Ls and that small hopper, just as much when it's a cardboard run and you've got all the whole boxes - wouldn't want to be in any rush to get the job done ASAP in this case! What's the go with those bins at 8:17 with the steel bar holding the lids open? I imagine it's got something to do with providing a slot to slide flattened cardboard through? Almost seems like a good idea to force people to squash boxes, unless they can simply open the lid and chuck it in the top haha On street packer at 12:47 too, bloody hectic! =] Got a few chicks walking past as well, the one on the right at the last second of the video looked pretty hot hehe Miss doing the CBD run, loved checking out the female talent and the general feeling of being a city garbo, just sick as working at night too, back lanes, lots of bins ;) Great job on the special catch, hope to see other stuff like this from down there - I know you guys have plenty of it for video potential!

Thank you! I was wondering when you were gonna get around to watching it, seeing you only commented on the 3 videos before this one hehe.. Indeed, needed some more commercial on here. Yeah it is, cause the private Citywide bins are in different colours compared to the Melbournes ones and yeh the boys start at 7pm and finish up at around midnight. After seeing Shandos photo of it years ago, I've always wanted to film it, so I guess I was lucky enough to get it. I guess it being a low entry was an extra bonus, well to be honest from what I have been told, it's almost like a spare truck. Not sure if it's jumped out on a residential run but I am sure it has done it in the past because they boys only had it for that day because their truck shit itself, but every time I go past their yard it's always parked up so who knows!?! Sounds better in person!!! When I first saw the packer speed I was like errr :( wtfff but it got the job done in the end so no dramas, although a faster packer would have been better ;) It did get clogged at times. Some of the bins in the city infact have locks on the lids so it stops people from putting shit in them, but those slots I reckon are for those who put flattened cardboard in and stops those from putting rubbish such as bags ect? ahahaha, gotta admit everyone has a look hehe ...only good thing about the city ;) Yeah, I hope to get more and yes we do! Maybe soon enough we will see Atlas ???
