That is the cleanest hire saw I have seen in a long time. The ones I do you have to spend 30 mins just getting the bloody screws out and the filters weigh more than the saw with concrete dust 😀😀😀
Good Evening Paul , can you tell me what the Arrow > is for on-top of piston > ? .... Also do the rings go on , with gaps opposite each other . Example 1st ring @ 6 O'clock ,,,,,,,, 2nd ring gap at 12 O'clock ... Regards . John
I am a stihl tech you need a t 27 plus you dont dont need to take all that apart the engine comes out of the take housing with when you take out some av bolts I work on a lot of them plus if all you people use aftermarket piston and cylinder it will be back the coating comes off so spend the extra money and by oem or els you will be doing it agin plus I can have that whole saw down apart in a half hour

hi. although there was slight noise on the crank bearings, there was no play. so i decided to carry on with the build. the machine has been out on hire since the video with no problems.
Been working on a non sparking TS350. Now I know why there are so many being sold on eBay. Bloody expensive ignition coil failure. Wish I'd gone for the TS400
@@paulmears9784 Cheapest ignition coil for the 350 was £110 and another retailer was listing them at £125! Ridiculous prices and no one makes aftermarket coil.
@@paulmears9784 Quick follow up question please... I'm now going to have to replace the bearings as well. What tool(s) should I get to split the crankcase and remove the bearings?
@@JonnyButler hi, i just support the case on my vice and bash the end of the crank with a hammer. as long as you are replacing the crank as well as the bearings
I am repairing a ts400 for a mate at some time its had a new barrel and piston but it will not start. I found the compression is right down at 80psi although the barrel, piston and rings are ok. I have done a leak down test and found a massive air leak from the base gasket and air is coming up through the cylinder bolts also. I have taken the barrel off to replace the base gasket and found that where the two half's of the crankcase join here is a 2 thou step. I have ordered a new base gasket but I am concerned about this step even with a new gasket. I am going to try and fill it out with plastic gasket. The question is is this normal on these engines I am not accustomed to working on these small engines. I don't fancy trying to file it flat.
hi derek. normally there is not a step between the 2 crankcase halfs. maybe the saw has been rebuilt with 2 separate non matched halfs? i wouldnt recommend any kind of instant gasket.
sounds to me like you have a carb problem.you need to strip clean and rebuild it and start with basic carb settings on the 2 jet screws. 1.5 turns out from lightly seated. and see how you get on from there.
@@paulmears9784 I have used aftermarket cylinders and they work just as good as oem I just sub out the rings for caber rings they are the best made in Italy good quality rings use them in aftermarket cylinders they last forever
I have I sthil ts400 that was running fine but now when it gets warm it will not Rev flat out, it gets to near full rpm then dies right down, idles fine. Where can I get a coil for that same saw I got one but it was wrong it had two bolt the original has threw
Shoutout to Annakasa
Can't understand comments, and can't see the section of saw he's working on. I think he forgot he was recording...
i did forget a little bit to comment as i got into what i was doing.
No need to remove the blade or belt and take the exhaust off after you pull the cylinder head. Takes less time.
Where did you get the cylinder and piston? Just genuine are expensive. Thanks Niall (Ireland)
just off ebay. l and s were the supplyers. around £20.
What did you do about the loose bearing that you mentioned right after u pulled the cylinder?
hi. although there was slight noise on the crank bearings, there was no play. so i decided to carry on with the build. the machine has been out on hire since the video with no problems.
hi and thanks for your comment.
Plus if the bearings are worn and he puts it back together and doesn't presher test and vac test it will be back
Can you do video on crankcase gasket replacement
hi. when i am back at work again i will do as soon as i can.
Thanks Paul, look forward to watching it

you probably need to strip and clean carb and replace diaphragm. check all black rubber hoses for cracking and change in tank fuel filter.
Buy Chinese carb off ebay, I never rebuild carbs now
