I haven't played a paladin since D2R launch so forgive my ignorance, but can't you add hydra to quickcast and keep the conviction aura up at all times?
Unfortunately not. Auras are only able to be used on right bind, same as Hydra. No way around it except self wield or merc infinity
@@DoubleBilly I mean the new quickcast system to cast hydra while keeping conviction on the right skill bind. Conviction might switch off each time you cast hydra, but it would save you from having to keep switching skills manually.

Not 100% sure but I think using a controller would allow you to keep up the conviction aura while casting
Just curious what is the point to play sorceress on paladin. I mean you do play it exactly like sorceress with hydras. I will rather see some conversion build. I did it in old versions before remaster and not finished it. It was great that you can kill mob on one hit after change back. But is was kind of slow. Also I have had on that paladin like 120 hp refresh and that was kind of cool not need to suck potions. Anyway…

Dude! I actually tested it with exactly that setup. It just turned out be a Zeal hybrid. The Zeal outshines Hydra so much it looks pathetic. That's exactly why I rambled at the start about that

Flickering flame helmet and dual trang so you can support your little fire dragon dudes with fireball

Hi Billy! I really liked this build. Would you try out a build where you use conviction aura and holy fire aura from dragon armor and Hand of Justice, and hydras for attack. Like a real Mage. You attack with only fire skills. Trangs glove and belt provides fire balls too. I think it would be fun to play. I made a build with Maxroll planner but UA-cam deletes if I link it. Other nice touch if you chose an act 3 fire merc for the asthetic. Flickering flame helmet on both of you, he got a spirit shield, Chains of honor and Hexfire for plus to skills.
if you're using a controller you don't have to switch off your conviction.
Why not use 3 piece trangs for more fire power from oskills?
Cool idea I did consider, but I wanted the hydras to be the main focus of damage output as much as possible

36 in conviction is an overkill. You literally wasted 11 (with CtA on swap 12) more points than needed. You get absolutely no bonuses from it since it's hard capped at -150 res just FYI. 😅 Other than that, an interesting little off meta build.
Even more if you add skillers (which I would personally advice to always use Offensive ones) whenever using self-conviction since you can invest minimal points in it and have hard points for something else like Blessed Aim for that passive AR boost or even like pushing max res with fire/cold/light res. It works even on builds like Avenger since hard points into Salvation for example yield more effective DPS than soft points into Vengeance for example (talking about skillers). 🤓

Is this the most DPS that hydra paladin can achieve? How about with that new addition to remove enemy fire immunity, any room for this to be viable?

I've also thought about it when I found a Dragonscale but I decided not to try since there's not a real way to pump up Hydra damage. If only we can find a way to get Fire Mastery, even if only 1 point. But maybe another way with facets can be found.
By the way, you really don't have to max out Conviction. 24 with CtA or 25 is enough. And also, this can't be a hybrid built since you always almost have to focus on castin Hydra and switching to Conviction.
There is an option to press and cast while it auto keeps your aura on in game play settings

Nope. Fast cast bunds act as if you would manually switch back and forth between spells... It just does it automatically for you. You can feel this effects a lot when teleing around a lot. Fast cast is just QoL change not an actual mechanical one. 🤓
