Basically, thaw overnight in the fridge. Nice when a classic old-school traditional method still holds up as the best.
Yes indeed! The thaw plate was a surprising success too.
This helped me alot today. Ive never tried a cast iron thawing plate, but will buy one now.
“Surprisingly palatable” is a ringing endorsement.
Save that method for well done. Hahaha
Yep! Hah
I like this experiment, and it has proven very helpful.
Great to hear!
Very underrated channel, i love all the different experiments and cooking techniques
Nice job Gavin! The videos here deserve much more views.
Much appreciated!
Love the steak advice, not so much the world's shortest lo fi beats on repeat
Lol most of my steaks thawed in the fridge "overnight" are still semi frozen.
Time wise in the fridge overnight method depends so best to give more time doing so.
Nice job, Gavin. Always wondered. Very helpful.
Glad it was helpful, Richard! Thanks for watching.
That’s a lot of medium rare steak for one person. You could’ve invited me 😋 Also thanks for the demo
thanks a lot for the experiments, very helpful, very good channel
I was already subscribed! this is amazing
If you defrost in the microwave, flip it half way and stop before parts of it it reaches a cooking temperature and just thaw it in the pan for the remainder, would you be able to tell the difference?
When in a hurry, I thaw in the microwave but for only about 4 minutes (depends on the thickness). I do it till it's still a bit stiff in the middle, and not pre-cooked at all. Then I let it sit for another 10 minutes. This method takes takes a total of less than 15 minutes.
Great video!
Thank you!
Can i using the oven?and could you recommend a temper?
Cool water on sous vide has the best of two worlds
What is the brand of thawing plate used?
The best meat is fresh off the bone from a recent kill within 3 hours.

I shuttered when I read ,"microwave" and "steak"
I throw my frozen raw meet directly on my granite countertops. Works great.
Is eating steak really a job?
Chef Gavin also works on developing new recipes and food photoshoots. But, yes, eating steak is a big part of it!
Lucky 🥺
i thought .. i heared my dog eating.. but then it was a human.. alright
3 is undercooked.
No
I thought you were going to cook the steaks???
It looks like you literally just heated them all up in the microwave for 20 minutes.
Those are all raw steaks, completely inedible by any standard and I would return to the kitchen and just leave if I received at a restaurant.
It's supposed to be brown all the way through (signifying that it's done)
I don't understand why you bothered to cook them at all if you weren't going to finish the job. But I like how you called them "Medium rare" when the reality is they aren't even Rare, they are Raw, salmonella and E. coli here I come!
You're talking about hamburgers right? I would be sorry for your steaks 🏒
