I love how this is inspired by french werewolves legend, where it is said that they don't have any "fur" when in human form, because it is all inside and only comes out when they transform..!
Subverting the "Suitor turns out to be a jerk so the two lovers can be together forever" trope that other stories have done...I am all sorts of in love with this original and well animated short!
Ngl, when Remus growled at the dog I kinda wondered if it was going to turn into a "he's not as good as he seems" story with the fleas both trying to get to each other but only Remus reaching out to the bearded lady
thank god for subtitles and control of the playback speed this was so cute and the shared fleas were both gross and at the same time a charming adorable love story and the pictures in the credits were the perfect touch to bring it all home . love it

They are unique individuals who put on shows for entertainment. They simply be themselves, going on stage to perform despite their bizarre attributes, and in many cases, using said attributes to amuse the audience. Now, in case you didn't read the poster which is in full view just three seconds into the film [which seems to be the case for a significant portion of this comment section], it advertises "MAGGY THE BEARDED LADY" at a "FREAKSHOW". Half of the plot in this film revolves around Maggy, so I mean... About Maggy, though, she is herself a 'freak'. Yes, she looks funny, but that is because she's trying to make a point and teach a lesson. Societal norms have molded humans into believing women are not supposed to have facial hair despite human genetics allowing hair to grow on our faces, among other places, regardless of gender. This, in turn, makes Maggy a 'freak' by conventional and mainstream norms. The lesson she's teaching in particular is that she's still a human with a talent and dreams regardless of how she looks. She's a wonderful singer [and let's shout out Sophie Boyer and Solange Boulanger for doing a stellar job bringing Maggy to life], and the audience loved her performance. She is proof that one can live true his or herself and make their own choices regardless of what is deemed 'normal' by society. I rest my case.
actually the real bearded lady suffered from a deformity as most freaks are. most women do not have facial hair unless there is a hormonal balance issue, or some birth defect.

in normal case this is masculine hormones that give facial hair, and is one feature allowing to make distinction between good male mate and good female mate. Else her facial hairs, maggy on the other side is very feminine, because creators wanted her to be seductive beside her beard.
This was absolutely wholesome! But I just want to note a few things wrong with this. 1. Maggy should seriously be less accepting of someone bursting into her house like that. 2. Remus? Learn to knock. You can't just slam into someone's house like that. Also,... did you follow her to her house? 3. Maggy, this goes along with the first and second points. You should really think about locking your doors. 4. Get rid of that girdle, madam! Or at least loosen it up! Don't turn your abdomen into a cylinder! You're hurting yourself! X D
They are both part of the traveling circus. Singing bearded lady is an old circus trope. And all the people from one circus know eachother. They basicly live and work together 24/7. And thats why her door is unlocked. She is feeling safe in that place.
