- June is when things start to grow like crazy. We already got our first ripe tomato. We are starting to harvests a few more things now. Next month is when we will start to fully enjoy all of the tomatoes and peppers. I'm hoping to do some taste test videos then. I even let some radishes grow so we could enjoy some of their edible pods. Please let us all know how your garden is doing. Thanks for watching!

Send some of that rain my way 😂 I don’t remember when it last rained in my area of Missouri.
Sorry, but we can't spare any :) I just checked the state drought map, and we are in severe drought here. We feel so good when we do get a rain here and there. Hope it rains in your area, and our area too!
Same here in mid Mo.
NEMO zone 5b, we need rain!!!my peppers seem stunted, everything else looks good.
Hope you get some rain. Hope those peppers catch up with everything else too. We're still in drought here.
I like growing micro marzano tomatoes because they are good for roasting and very meaty. I grow orange hats as well for some variety but they aren’t my favorite either. Everything is looking great. I bought a few half whiskey barrels to go with my Greenstalks and containers since we’re working on the gardens and landscape and I don’t have all my beds to grow in this year. I’ll have to try those red swan beans since they are early producers. I use bush beans to fill in spots and get a few beans while I wait for my pole beans and yard longs to be ready.
Thanks for the tip on micro marzano. I might have to check that one out. I like Calima beans better than red swan, but it's kind of nice to have some early ones. We harvested some Monte Gusto pole beans this morning. Those half whisky barrels are pretty handy. We have one. Our yard beans should be starting to set soon.
The garden is looking good, sure wish we could get some of that rain here in central Illinois. It's supposed to rain tonight, we'll see I guess
Thanks, Steve! Hope you get that rain tonight. It seems like it's dry in a whole lot of places.
I got about. 1/2 inch Saturday night. nothing to help me from needing to water.
Everything is looking absolutely beautiful. After the rain they will be even better. Your peppers are stunning this year as usual. Those pom pom peppers are very interesting.
I really enjoyed my grow bags this year, I believe I will be replacing the 5 gallon buckets with grow bags. I have also decided that I have too much nitrogen in my soil. It seems like I have alot of greenery and not so many fruits. Guess I'll be doing some research to fix that problem. Great garden update. Take care and have a great weekend. 🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞
Thanks Shirley! Yes, that rain helps a lot. I really enjoy using the grow bags too. Hope you can get your soil tested for free somewhere. Have a great weekend!
YAY for the rain!!! We are having a terrible time in Maryland with no rain and a heat wave at the moment! Your garden is looking fantastic!!! I love how you interplant the flowers with the veggies. Your carrots look awesome, and I love the peppers. I truly enjoy your updates. 😊
Indeed. I hope you get some rain soon. We are in drought, so we will take every drop we can get. Thanks Gail, I'm really glad you enjoy the updates.
@gailskitchen. We were the same here in central Florida until the other day. We got 1 1/2" of rain. Every little bit helps.
@@shirleyk623 I’m glad you got some rain…it’s so hard on the plants!
I love your garden tours; you have a beautiful and prolific garden. A nice gentle rain makes everything grow like there's no tomorrow. We had a little over 2.5 inches last night, however, it was accompanied by wind and hail (also tornado sirens). I picked up many broken and damaged plant parts this morning and pulled some weeds before heading inside.
Someone in the neighborhood must be feeding the squirrels raw (in-the-shell) peanuts because I have several planters where they have germinated and are growing, lol. I hope you and Mrs. Midwest Gardener have a great week. ~Margie
Thanks Margie! Wow, 2.5 inches is the kind of rain that we need. Not if it has wind and rain with it though. Sorry to hear about the damage. Hope it wasn't enough to damage roofs. We have replaced our roof a couple of times because of hail over the years. Hope the plants recover quickly for you. A peanut planting squirrel, lol. We don't need any of those around here either. I decided to plant a few peanuts just of the fun of it this year. Hope you have a great week and weekend!
Gophers and Box Turtles - oh my! Everything looks just great. Going to be a stellar year for you. Hope weather continues to cooperate.
Thanks! Yes, the critters seem to like the garden too. It's going to be triple digits next week for a few days!
We've been in a heat wave in southern Ontario Canada for a bit with high humidity. My golden zucchini are happy with it, but I think I've gone one too many in a small garden. Live and learn.
Your garden is so interesting and inspiring. Love to watch your videos. We need rain here and some cooler temps. We have a chance of rain this week. Sure am looking forward to a garden ripe tomato and a bacon, lettuce, and tomato sandwich with sweet onion and Miracle Whip. Yum!
Thanks a bunch! Glad you enjoy the videos. I enjoy sharing them. Hope you get some rain, and we get some more. You had me salivating when you mentioned a bacon, lettuce, and tomato sandwich. That sounds so good. We've gotten some ripe cherry tomatoes, but no bigger ones yet.
I love your garden ❤ you are growing all kinds❤absolutely amazing 👏 🤩 ❤️
Glad you enjoyed the tour. Thanks for watching!
Everything looks healthy and happy!
Just the way I like it. I hope it stays that way. We are going to be having some triple digit days though.
I enjoyed getting to see it! I tell folks how successful you are growing potatoes in haybales.
Glad you enjoyed it! Things are doing pretty well....so far. We are going to have triple digits here several days this week.
Midwest, here in Maine being dowsed with weather manipulation, haven't seen sun in days. Blessed you.
Thanks! Sorry to hear that. We would gladly trade you some sunshine for some clouds :)
It is my first time on your channel and I have just subscribed. Very nice garden. Keep up the good work. All the best on this journey.
Thanks for subscribing! I really appreciate that!
Good Morning Jim - Wow you are so lucky to get some rain. I have been watering twice a day for weeks now and have no where near the production you have. Just got back from the farmers market to get some veggies that others have had better luck with. I'm not a fan of cherry tomatoes either but if they taste good and produce then they can stay. As always thanks for the updates and have a wonderful weekend..
Good morning Sue. That was the first nice rain that we've had in a while. Usually when we get rain, it's only a 1/4 of an inch, or something like that. We like to visit the farmer market too. You never know what you might find. Hope you have a great weekend!
Nice to have the blessing of rain! Looking good! Have a mischievous critter that has found the plant markers fun to pull out. Don’t know what type of tomatoes and peppers are where with several plants.
Yes, we will take all rain we can get. Those critters sure can make things harder sometimes. Maybe you can figure some of them out when they get ripe. Have a great weekend!
Beautiful work as always, Jim! Hope you are doing well with all of the heat.
Thanks! I know you probably get pretty warm where you are too. We are supposed to be 101 today. Hope you beautiful plants are all doing well.
I like the orange hat if you let it go until the fruit is as ripe as possible. I've grown them indoors exclusively though, so I've had the advantage of letting them sit until I want to pick them. I've found that if you let them almost start to get wrinkly they are so ripe, they will taste almost like a grape.
Interesting. Thanks for the tip.
I planted tomato april 30 east of san francisco and I have a lot of green tomatos so far, last year I started putting urine in my fish tea with good results and this year I started using a lot of urine and I'm getting a lot of giant strawberries and twice as much kale production
Thanks for sharing that with us. Glad it's working for you.
That is a shame about the sun flower. My only harvest for tomatoes so far is micros I started in the winter. It is hard to wait. 🎉
Even though it was tall, that doesn't happen with the sunflowers very. I agree...it's always hard to wait for things to grow and produce fruit.
Glad to see the garden had some rain. How’s the weather now? I’m not a Malabar spinach fan but I remember once one of my mates deep fried those leaves coated with gram flour and some spices. It was very tasty! Thanks for the video, mate. Have a lovely weekend. Take care!
Yes, we got some rain, but we could use more. According to the drought map, we are in severe drought. A couple of days next week, we are supposed to be over 100 degrees F. Interesting way to prepare malabar spinach. I've never heard of that one. You never know till you try it. Have a great weekend!
The forecast sounds horrible. I’ll be keeping you mates in my prayers. Stay safe!
@@RiazUddin-sk3uw Thanks! I really appreciate that.
Looks great!
Thanks! Everything is doing pretty well so far. We picked more beans this morning, and we are harvesting cucumbers now too.
Whats the best container size for full development of large tomato 🍅 plants 🌱 and basil 🌿 sweet and other plants? And when it reaches diminishing returns Midwest? Beautiful rare peppers 🌶 and nice sweet potato 🍠 plantings! Thanks for showing!
I haven't really done much experimenting with different sizes, so I can't say for sure. I've used 25 gallon, 10 gallon, and 5 gallon. My favorite size so far is 10 gallon grow bags or pots. Many people do fine with 5 gallon though.
@@MidwestGardener i usually use 5 and wondered if things could be better, 10 gb are nice too because the weight still feels manageable (guess comparing the same variety in ground would tell what’s their potential) for after 10 gallons and have to do some weight training to be comfortable carriying hehe they’re heavy on the hands and back
@@xaviercruz4763 You are right. They can be very heavy when they are full of soil, and the soil has been recently watered.
It's a rough year for the eggplants! I've lost one of mine to flea beetles. I'm sorry yours has run off with a gopher.
Yep, those flea beetles are relentless. Those gophers sure can be a pain in the butt.
