    What I used
    10 ply yarn/ medium weight/ Aran acrylic yarn
    6mm crochet hook
    5mm crochet hook
    I made this crochet vest in a size small but it is easy to adjust for other sizes.
    I would recommend measuring up against a tank or top you like the fit of.

    I made this vest in a small and it’s quite stretchy which makes it a bit forgiving for different sizes. For different sizes here are my row count suggestions:
    XS - front panels each with 49 rows, back panel with 87 rows
    S - front panels each with 54 rows, back panel with 97 rows
    M - front panels each with 59 rows, back panel with 107 rows
    L - front panels each with 64 rows, back panel with 117 rows
    XL - front panels each with 69 rows, back panel with 127 rows
    2XL - front panels each with 74 rows, back panel with 137 rows
    3XL - front panels each with 79 rows, back panel with 147 rows
    Basically, for each size up or down you’d like to make, you just need to add 5 rows to each of the front panels and add 10 rows to the back panel.
    As for where to add/remove the extra rows, the best places would be for the front panels add/remove 2 extra rows in the underarm portion with no increases or decreases, 2 extra rows to the shoulder portion and 1 extra row to the neckline decrease section for a M (or XS if removing), double that for a L, triple that for XL, etc). For the back panel it would be 2 extra rows for the underarm section on both sides, 2 extra rows for the shoulder section on both sides and 2 extra rows for the straight section in the centre of the back panel M (or XS if removing), double that for a L, triple that for XL, etc).
    For the ribbing,
    Brown waist ribbing - take 2 row for XS, add 2 for M, add 4 for L, add 6 for XL, etc
    Grey waist ribbing - take 6 for XS, add 6 M, add 12 for L, add 18 for XL, etc
    For the neckline, don't add any rows for a M (or take for XS) but add one to each side for a L and no extra for a XL going back and forth with adding or not adding.
    Last thing! For the length, I think that depends more on your body shape than size so if you have a short torso like me you should be fine for length but if you have a long torso maybe add some chains at the start (row 1). For reference, mine is 15 inches/38cm from the shoulder to the top of the ribbing. I hope this helps but please let me know if you have any other questions :)

      Thanks so much!! That’s great! If the yarn is thicker than the one I’ve used here you’ll probably need to do less stitches and rows - especially if your hook is bigger. If I would help I’m happy to measure my vest in cm/inches if you are making a small. But if not, it should work to measure against a top you have! If you need any help of have any questions let me know and I’ll try to help xxx

    Hi, I just found your channel and this tutorial has given me the courage to crochet my first vest!! Your designs are really lovely! And your explanation is outstanding ❤
    I will try to make a size small with a chunkier yarn ( hook size 8 is suggested on the yarn label). How can I adjust the measurements to have the same result as you but with a chunky yarn?
    Thanks for sharing the tutorial!!

      Thank you! I'm so glad you like it :)
      And no problem! I definitely think it would work with a thicker yarn and size 8 hook. You'll just have to do less stitches and rows that I have - which will probably be quicker. Hopefully this will help you but here are all the cm/inch measurements for my vest, so if you just do as many stitches and rows you need to that add up to the measurements and it should end up pretty close.
      I don't think the below will make complete sense on it's own but hopefully combined with the video they do :)
      For the starting chain - my vest ends up being 14cm/5.5" but the chain will need to be bigger than that because slip stitches are quite tight. It'll be around 15% longer so around 16cm/6 1/4" but double check the length of the slip stitches after a couple of rows to make sure it's about the right length.
      The underarm portion is 3cm/1 1/4" so just do as many rows as is closest to that measurement.
      The next underarm portion with the increases is 4cm/1 5/8"
      The section going up to the shoulder is 20cm/8 3/4" but make the chain about 15% bigger again and check after the first row so 23cm/ 10" for the chain
      The shoulder chunk rows are 3.5cm/1 3/8". Everything so far is the same for the front and back panels up to here!
      Back Panel:
      the decrease rows are 2cm/ 3/4"
      the straight section across the back is 21cm /8 1/4"
      Then it's just all the same measurements but going the other way so read bottom to top from the back panel decrease rows (which will now be increases)
      Front panel:
      the decrease section is 12.5cm /5" and for this section I would recommend only doing 1 decrease in each row. I do one decrease in every second row and two decreases in every other but just do one for all of them :)
      Then lastly the trim. It's about 4cm/1 5/8" thick so just do the sloping increase until you get to around that measurement for both arm, neck and waist trim.
      For the length you will need to continue the rows until:
      58cm/ 22 3/4" for the neckline
      40cm / 15 3/8" for the arms
      85cm / 33 1/2" for the waist but for all these trims you'll probably need to check them against the vest to to make sure it's right and add or take a couple away if you need.
      Please let me know if you have any questions :)

    What if I use a yarn for a 4.5/4 mm hook? I want to do it in the same size as yours, you think that those measurements are ok?

    • @StephanieTashi
      @StephanieTashi  Рік тому

      Hi! I think if you use a smaller hook and yarn it will make the top a bit small with the same stitch counts I use. But it’s definitely possible to make it with a smaller hook, all of your stitch counts will just be a bit different - I can send though cm/inch measurements if that would help? Then you can copy them instead of the stitch counts to make the same size vest 😊 I also have a similar vest (same shape just all one colour - it’s the dark grey one) that has cm and inches in the video if you want to see what I mean. But it is a little different so happy to send you the measurements specific to this one 🥰🥰

    Hi. I’m confused about where we put each increase for the size M. If you could please help that would be amazing. Thank you!

    • @StephanieTashi
      @StephanieTashi  2 роки тому

      No problem! I'll start off by saying though that the vest is fairly loose so if you are on the small side of medium or want it to be a bit fitted, the size I make in the video is probably fine! But if you'd like to make a medium:
      Front Panels - in the first under arm portion where there are no increases or decrease you will need to do 8 rows (I do 6), in the increase section you will do the same as the video being 10 rows, in the next section which is after the chains up to the shoulder you'll need to do 9 rows (I do 7) and finally in the decrease section that goes down to the centre of your chest you'll need to 32 rows (I do 31).
      Back Panel - in the first under arm portion where there are no increases or decrease you will need to do 8 rows (I do 6), in the increase section you will do the same as the video being 10 rows, in the next section which is after the chains up to the shoulder you'll need to do 9 rows (I do 7), in the decrease after the shoulders you just keep it at 4 rows (2 decrease rows), for the straight section across the back you'll need to do 45 rows (I do 43), then do the reverse, 4 rows for the increase to the shoulder, 9 rows across the top of the shoulder, 10 rows with the underarm decreases, and 8 rows in the straight section under the arm.
      For the ribbing - brown waist ribbing = 27 rows, grey waist ribbing = 81
      Neck ribbing = 43 rows on each half
      Arm ribbing = 59 rows for each arm
      Please let me know if this doesn't make sense! If you have instagram or something similar i can send you a photo of a diagram if that helps :)

      @StephanieTashi  2 роки тому

      I love them too! I actually bought the brown one in a value bag and it was unbranded so I don’t know what it is :( I had a look online to see if I could find something similar and potentially Stylecraft Amor Aran in the colour Pebble could be very similar. I did also find a yarn similar to the style of brown yarn but in grey and it’s called 4 seasons spot saver print in the colour grey black. They also have the speckled yarn like the grey one I used here in the 4 seasons spot saver prints. Sorry that I could be of more help! I’ll have to make sure I buy branded yarn from now on just in case. You also might have luck where you are if you google verigated brown yarn. I hope this helps a little! Thanks so much for watching :)

    How many chains to make size medium ?

    • @StephanieTashi
      @StephanieTashi  Рік тому

      Hi Jackie :) the number of chains can be the same for all sizes if you like the length! You should be able to change the number of chains to however long you want the vest to be without effecting the pattern 😊
      If you would like the approximate row counts for each of the sections for a medium though I can send them through!
      Also if it helps my most recent video is for a vest with almost the same shape - just one continuous front panel and different sized ribbing - but for the body I have the row counts, cm and inch measurements.
      But more than happy to send them for this vest!

    what size is the vest you made and how can I do so for up sizes?

    • @StephanieTashi

      I made this vest in a small and it’s quite stretchy which makes it a bit forgiving for different sizes too which is good!
      But for each size up or down you’d like to make, you would just need to add 4 rows to each of the front panels and add 10 rows to the back panel. So I’m total a M would have 20 extra rows and a L 20 rows more than that and so on. As for where to add them, I think the best places would be for the front panels add 2 extra rows to the underarm portion with no increases or decreases, 2 extra rows to the shoulder portion and 1 extra row to the neckline decrease section for a medium (for a large double that, XL triple that etc). For the back panel it would be 2 extra rows for the underarm section on both sides, 2 extra rows for the shoulder section on both sides and 2 extra rows for the straight section in the centre of the back panel (double for L, triple for XL etc). For the ribbing, add 2 rows to the brown waist ribbing, and 6 rows to the grey waist ribbing for M, double for L etc, and for the neckline I wouldn’t add any rows for a medium but I’d add one to each side for an L and no extra for a XL going back and forth with adding or not adding. Last thing! For the length, I think that depends more on your body shape than size so if you have a short torso like me you should be fine for length but if you have a long torso maybe add some chains at the start (row 1). For reference, mine is 15 inches/38cm from the shoulder to the top of the ribbing. I hope this helps but please let me know if you have any other questions :) I’m going to add all this info into a pinned comment and include the row counts as well!

      I used about 270g in total for the vest with 125g being used for the brown sections and 145g for the grey sections. If you wanted to split the bottom trim evenly you could just use an equal amount of each which would be around 135g each. Please let me know if you have any other questions :)

    • @StephanieTashi
      @StephanieTashi  2 роки тому

      Hi Retno! From the top of the shoulder (the last full shoulder row) I did 31 rows with the decreases. So counting from the first row I did the neckline decreases I did 31 rows to the middle of my vest. I hope that makes sense but please let me know if it doesn’t!
