Avrei voluto essere lì anch’io ma non ce l’ho fatta, pazienza, per fortuna sono riuscita a vederlo la sera del suo debutto, è stata una serata perfetta, non è andata storta una virgola, indimenticabile, per questo ho avuto timore a ritornarci per paura che potesse succedere qualcosa a guastare l’incantesimo di quella sera, ha già detto che il prossimo anno tornerà: il 3 agosto, aspettiamo e speriamo

We're so used to reading about and looking at surviving evidence of people from history It's easy to forget that they were real and had the same - or very similar - emotional feelings and experiences that we have, although, for the life of me, I cannot imagine what emotions motivated, or thought processes went through the mind of, a gladiator. The walls of the Verona Arena would have some tales to tell and lessons to teach if they could talk. I think it's because you are so sensitive and perceptive of such historical realities thst you are able to perform such outstanding and believable characterisations. Added to that your exquisite voice with it's musicality coming directly from the soul within you, it is hardly surprising that you have 10 minutes of applause. I'm just surprised we can stop applauding you at all. You make us leave our humdrum world far behind us and escape into such emotional and beautiful alternative never-worlds. Although, I must admit, I could do with one without Scarpia in it! Bravo Jonas 👏
When he is in New York, I always see him at the opera or concert; Traviata, Fanciulla, Faust, Parsifal, Walkure, Werther. But he doesn’t come to New York anymore, so last year I flew to Napoli to see him in Die Walkure at the Teatro San Carlo! I did visit Verona a few years ago for Nabucco, but there were no big stars in the performance.
