    I have settled in pretty okay in my opinion. But as you discussed, coming in as a student may be a bit more difficult than it usually. I came in on a work visa, and without a limited contract, so got the residence permit for the first three years.
    Recently brought my wife and kids along as well. As you said, thinking about kids atmosphere and education to grow, made me take the decision. Just waiting for them to get admissions to barnehage..
    Thanks for the interview and discussion.

    I listened with pleasure to the discussion. The bit about happiness, though, I find challenging to understand. What is "happiness"? I do not think we as a species are anywhere near being constructed to be "happy". Tim Minchin once said that "Happiness is like an orgasm- if you think too much about it- it goes away." I think the "content/ discontent" dichotomy is a better word to then "happiness/ unhappiness" in order to capture the general human condition. "Happiness" ocurrs as a high, unexpectedly mostly and lasts for a short time as I interpret it. So "content" is better. I think that Norway has facilitated for the possibility for a large bulk of the population to be content; maybe more than anywhere else in the world. The state is not responsible for making its inhabitants "happy." That is the responsibility of the individual. And it seems to me like the best way of doing that- is to try and make someone else happy; something will rub off.

      I really like your point of view and fully agree with you. Happiness is the state of mind and the mind in itself can make hell and heaven out of the same place. But thanks for your comment.

      @@NamastefromNorway Also, if an Indian misses India so much that staying here, makes him/her unhappy..well, then he/she should perhaps have stayed at home instead. Another thing is that many ethnic groups seem to have a very strong preference for their own etnic group...so; if "Norwegians" (do they mean ethnic Norwegians or do they also include children of immigrants that are born here?)are difficult to get in touch with, how come they don`t try to befriend people of other ethnic groups who also stay here? Also; as a Norwegian , I don`t nescessarily get along well with everyone, just because they are Norwegian! this is probably also true for foreigners-we all have our preferences, that doesn`t mean that we dislike the rest. I have or have had friends from 10-12 different countries,including India. Do Indians in general get along well with everyone else in India, simply because they are Indians?

    I live in Norway I do not believe that the quality of life is the best here. From my experience the education and healthcare systems are so bad. The people here are very unfriendly, they prefer to hire Norwegians over foreigners, the country is boring, there is no culture and art. It's really not a nice place to live. There are far better places. If you were coming from a low income country such as India then your experience will be amazing, but if you lived a comfortable in another good quality country, Norway will not be amazing.

      To be honest I am in Australia. No country is good now as every country is getting more Indian immigrant population so everyone is not happy and racist. Look at canada situation now the same will be for Australia, NZ and UK very soon. Hard to accept but true fact.

    • @bjrnjensen7074
      @bjrnjensen7074 Місяць тому

      As a Norwegian, I wouldn`t say that quality of life is the best. Whoever said that? aah, you are perhaps referring to this Happiness Index? Where Norway came 5th (?), last time I checked. Well, goodness me- it was not meant LITTERALY! it means that the country (and the other Nordic countries and a few more) ticks the right boxes, when it comes to transparency, democracy and a few more criteria. NOT that people are literally more cheerful and happy! besides; happiness is highly individual, it depends on what you want/need in life. However,I disagree that there is NO culture and art, these things can be found in most countries on the planet, if you know where to look. Of course, if you are comparing Norway to the plethora of art galleries etc in London and New York, etc, then obviously there is a LOT more in those cities. As a recident of Oslo now for 30ish years, I am happy with my life here, however there are plenty of other places in Norway where I probably would feel "un-happy"..too small, lack of opportunities etc-even if there is gorgeous nature.
