Written by Sonny Bono and originally recorded by Cher. The Nancy Sinatra version is the most famous, but I think Angelina at just 8 years old took it to even greater heights.

Exactly 9Ballr, when I first heard Angelina sing this years ago, I couldn't believe how good it was. I was familiar with Nancy Sinatra's version, but hadn't heard it in many years, so I listened again. Angelina's version is so much more nuanced & sophisticated with scoops, slides & runs that Nancy couldn't dream of executing.

The funny thing is I didn’t even realize that Nancy Sinatra had recorded this song until watching reactions to Angelina’s performance.
I was very familiar with Cher’s version. It was a huge number 2 hit. I remember hearing it on the radio all the time.
When I heard that Angelina based her cover off the Nancy Sinatra version I had to give it a listen, I have to admit, I prefer Angelina’s version.

For me the combination of her age image the lyrics and her voice make this the definitive version of this song and I believe it will never be bested. Even Nancy Sinatras origional cannot best it.

This song requires the fluidity that you described. It shows Angelina’s uncanny ability, at barely 8 years old, to sing legato lines without wavering in pitch or breath.
If anything the abilities she showed here indicate the vocal mechanism she was gifted with. A truly born singer.

Her skillful roleplaying in a song is stunning. How is this little kid able to immerse herself in the lyric and become the song like no other? This is why I contend she may have an incredible future in Oscar winning performances.

A Sonny and Cher song actually, but it was made more known as NANCY Sinatra made her version of it. Angelina based her cover on that one. This semi-finals performance made Omar, the aplauding judge you saw, stating; - "Angelina, in my heart you`ve allready won this competition". And Bjarte, the other mail judge stated, " - If I was not a judge at this desk, I would surely pick up my phone and give you my vote". BTW - both the ladies agreed as well.

AJ had just turned 8 years old. She convinced the judges she was a real deal when walk up to the guitarist during the rehearsal and gave him instructions (!).
You see one of the judges clapping intensively. That is Omer Bhatti. He became a family friend of AJs family after NGT. He was raised by Michael Jackson at Neverland and the Jackson family regard him as one of them still today. I guess his connections have been very important for AJ from Day 1.

The dichotomy of the angelic child and the violent lyrics really makes an impact here, especially considering the current climate. Then you hear this amazing husky alto come out of that tiny body and it blows your mind. Great choices made all around, and I can't wait to hear how her voice matures.

Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman.
Angelina started singing around 18 months of age, after listening to Whitney Houston on UA-cam. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz.
Mery Zamani is Iranian and was a prodigy as an artist and poet while growing up in Iran. Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. Her teachers were smart enough to not attempt to change what she was doing vocally. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage.
Why Angelina always performs barefoot At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true. Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate.
At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East. PLEASE PURCHASE Angelina’s book from her merchandise store on her official website, angelinajordanofficial Angelina, at age 6 and 7, did record a few songs in a recording studio at her school, most notably “I Who Have Nothing”, a truly remarkable performance for a 7 year old. At age 7, Angelina’s audition on Norway’s Got Talent, was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried. Angelina had turned 8 years old for her next performance on NGT, covering Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition and was not performed in front of an audience. In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang” which was written by Sonny Bono and was first performed by his wife Cher but is best known sung by Nancy Sinatra. The improvement in each performance is incredible even though there were only a couple months between them. In the Finals, Angelina did a cover of George Gershwin’s, “Summertime” and won the contest, capturing 46% of the votes from the ten finalists. When asked what she would like to do with the prize money she won (500,000 kroner or about $80,000), Angelina replied, “I want to give it to the poor children”. Angelina had become a star in her native Norway and her videos on UA-cam went viral. She gave a few concerts during the summer of 2014 while 8 years old. In December 2014, Angelina realized a life-long desire to sing at the Save the Children's Peace Prize Celebration which is part of the Noble Peace Prize celebration. Angelina’s family took her to United States, Brazil, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Russia, South Korea, Singapore among other corners of Earth, to perform for heads of state and to help raise money for charity. All before Angelina turned 14. At age 9, Angelina recorded a music video covering the 1956 Jay Hawkin’s classic, “I Put a Spell On You”. The video begins by showing Angelina writing her “wishes” for how she wants to perform the song. Angelina has always created her own arrangements for her cover songs. At age 10 and just a week before her 11th birthday, Angelina recorded a demo of “I’m Still Holding Out for You”. Her family never pursued having that recording officially released but someone leaked it on a UA-cam video. Thankfully, everyone involved with that song is now ok with the leaked version. Many angels (fans) believe this is one of Angelina’s best performances. When Angelina was 11, she performed a number of concerts in Norway with a jazz/rock band. Those concerts included up to 14 songs, each remarkably performed. Angelina seems to be at her best when on stage, never nervous, only 100% confident. Also at age 11, Angelina recorded her “It’s Magic” album which has, at times, been in the top 10 best selling jazz albums. On June 27, 2018, at age 12, Jordan performed Frank Sinatra “Fly Me to the Moon” for Quincy Jones in The O2 Arena in London. She has said that was the high point of her young career which was already in it’s 6th year. During 2018, Angelina lost her paternal grandfather, her friend Avicii and one of her idols, Aretha Franklin. She did a moving tribute for each. In 2019, Angelina accepted an invitation to compete in the 2nd season of America’s Got Talent (AGT), The Champions. She had, since age 3, wanted to perform for Simon Cowell and she earned his praise with her genius arrangement of “Bohemian Rhapsody”. The surviving members of Queen loved it so much they put a link to it on their Twitter. Angelina was eliminated after covering Elton John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”. Angelina’s family refused to sign any agreement with AGT. Angelina, before age 14, had covered more than 130 songs from 80 different artists, spanning at least 8 genres, all of which are available on UA-cam. Angelina has always made changes to each song she covers and often her version is preferred over the original. On UA-cam, search on The Complete Works of Angelina Jordan as Rusty Shackleford has put all songs in one file and has a complete playlist in the description of that video. The pandemic hit shortly after her performances on AGT and likely caused a change of plans by her family, most notably her Uncle Michael who is her manager. Her family agreed to a contract with Republic Records in August 2020. Republic Records declared Angelina Jordan their highest priority new artist. Reportedly her family requested Republic to allow her as normal a childhood as possible and therefore have yet to fully promote her. During the pandemic, Angelina was often seen buying meals for the homeless on the streets of Los Angeles. In November 2020, Angelina released “Million Miles” which she wrote after the passing of her beloved maternal grandfather. She dedicated the song to anyone who has ever lost a loved one. Angelina had previously released, 3 other original songs: “What is Life”, “Oslo” and “Shield” In April 2021, her original “7th Heaven” was released. A jazzy, danceable, inspiring song. Angelina has posted numerous short performances on Tik Tok and Instagram. Angelina had concerts in Norway in July 2022. Personally, Angelina as a great human being and her music came into my life when I needed it most. Her music has improved the quality of my life more than I can express. I now introduce her to as many people as I can, with the hope her music will do the same for others. We know once her family believes the time is right and allows Republic Records to fully promote her, she will become the superstar she has always dreamt and believed she would be. I encourage others to use this biography to help educate others about the love, empathy, magic and beauty that is Angelina Jordan Astar and her unique music.

Apart from her voice and singing, its amazing how she and the guitar player can stay perfectly tuned, looking at each other. After how many rehersels? She proves it later on, Angelina and a guitar player, that's all you need to give you the shivers.
She is now a grown up and AJ is a multi million dollar company. But she herself keeps a low profile. I think that proves how smart she is. We get her music but she is no public property. Well done Angelina.

All four performances on NGT were special. What I find especially impressive of this one was the lack of vibrato: already then she knew how to turn it off and on. Also her interaction with a live musician was awesome. Many other things are great as well.

*To all Angels* We all enjoy watching reaction videos because it gives us the chance to share reactors' experiences with the emotions we initially felt when we first viewed an artist's performance. Reactions are entertaining, and the channels deserve our support. But we must realize that although reaction videos attract some new fans, we need to be mindful that there are very important actions we must take to introduce artists like Angelina, and even reactors, to a vastly wider audience. For Angelina, that means providing her the opportunity to share her music, and to spread her message of love and empathy.
Angels, please support Angelina just by watching two videos per day, in their entirety, either from her Official or Cover channel. Ensure that you like and post a new comment, and also like, and reply to existing comments when inspired. More angels participating is the most direct way we can support Angelina on UA-cam, which will then recommend her videos to millions more people. Reactors who truly appreciate you and their featured artists will encourage you to take these actions for the artists' as well as their own channels. Recognize your favorites by liking, commenting, and subscribing to their channels as well. Peace and love.

Great reaction. Angelina has an incredibly high musical and emotional intelligence that defies explanation. She seems to have a natural intuition about how a song should be presented to be the most impactful. I can only guess that it comes from her intense studying some of the most technically advanced singers during her young and impressionable years from 3 to 7. I believe she would be a much different singer if her musical choices when she was small were the typical "Pop" stars of the day. The fact that the majority of her musical exposure and interest was to artists such as Billie Holliday, Aretha Franklin, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Dina Washington, Louis Armstrong, and Etta James I think provided a master class in musical nuance, style, and texture that put her head and shoulders above any of her contemporaries. Combined with her natural talent and abilities and the supportive people in her life, all the stars have aligned to create the potential for a true artistic superstar.

Very interesting points you bring up. If Angelina's first performances t NGT had been "Pop" songs, I doubt very such whether I would have wanted to follow her career. Although, on reflection, I'll modify the sentence to add "unless she sang the song in a way that she sounded like no ordinary "Pop" singer", which I suspect she would have done. 🙂

Cher originally sang this song in 1966, alot of people remember Nancy Sinatras take but it was written for Cher. Angelina preformed this alot in the nod of Cher's version. Cher had one of the lower vocal ranges of any female pop Diva, now years later Angelina has a very low range also. This was a great choice by her as it is something really different to showcase her vast vocal skills. Great reaction!

I've gone back to this over and over and listened carefully for details. She doesn't do any particular thing that is notably out of the ordinary. But somehow all of the little things she does that we have a hard time picking out, collectively make this just mesmerizing. It is a testament to the innate sense of how things should be that she has. Also, huge props to the guitar player here. The spacious arpeggios with the tremolo effect on them are a spectacular background for her to sing on top of in the performance. I like your comment on how fluid she makes the telling of this story...

I loved this song in the 60’s by both Cher and Nancy Sinatra, but Angelina gives us a completely original take that is so perfectly interpreted for these melancholy lyrics. And we get a preview of 8 year old Angelina’s stunning control of that unique low register. Such an unusual choice for a child on a talent show, but it’s perfection.

Britt. You're right. It never stops, but it isn't rushed at all. It was a Sonny and Cher song. Nancy Sinatra covered it, but people in general weren't impressed with her level of talent. The version that played on the radio constantly was the Sonny & Cher version. At least that was the case in California when I was growing up listening to the radio. Now maybe in Europe Nancy's cover was more popular due to her father's reputation, I don't know. But, I understand that the Nancy Sinatra version offered influence on Angelina Jordan's version. See you at the next one, Britt. Grandma Ellen, out.

Not the first time her voice riding a wave of emotions ❤️ Brilliant performance by a 8 year old ❤️ Sinatra yes, Nancy Sinatra song ❤️👍

Her sense of phrasing is unmatched even at this early age. Holding the “ng” sound of the word “bang” into the next phrase creates this sense of a continuous falling down to the ultimate thud of “my baby shot me down”
It’s brilliant! And that’s just one thing that makes her version better than Nancy Sinatra’s or Cher’s - imho

Perfect performance. Her next song was Summertime. It's these two songs that blew up her career. Just look at her....stunning. Better than Nancy's version

Awesome reaction to a Cher Original, written by her husband at that time, Sonny Bono! Nancy Sinatra became the version to listen to, until A.J. sung it. She took possession and that's just a fact, God Bless!

You can tell that at age 8, Angelina was going to be a superstar. During the performance, you perceived how she sang the song without taking a breath (although she did). Anyway, I thought I would recommend a song that is done by Pentatonix..."Carol of the Bells", because when Mitch started to sing in that video, he went literally almost a minute without taking a breath (I think that's when Pentaholics figured he was an alien...lol). !!

It's a song by Nancy Sinatra, the daughter of... originally Cher's song. There was also the theme song for the movie "Kill Bill" 🦶🦶👑🗣🎙🎷

Frank's daughter, Nancy, not Frank, sang the popular original, but most people think of Kill Bill, the movie when they source their first time hearing. As with most things Angelina, I prefer her version of that song, and she was just spectacular in all her appearances during NGA.
