The need to focus on improving the existing hospitals first, especially Mirabeau.Also, it is about time the government focus on providing quality health services to all Grenadian,both in the town and country.People in the country need a better-equipped hospital that can provide with the services instead of driving all the way to St.George's. Time is life when people need care.
If you have limited resources, I think that these should be spent keeping and attracting top medical talent. What's the use of a fantastic building if you don't have the professionals to provide quality health care?
Quite right. I am told when the General hospital finished the new building expats returned to help fill the void, but due to their experience were seen as know it alls, and were not appreciated by existing staff.... So they left.
So true it's the same mentality that building an building for an office space means enhanced business.
Also, we have to rethink our ideas of health and wellness. Good healthcare has little to do with Doctors and hospitals but begins with better education and better lifestyle practices. Come on my people let's not keep taking one step forward and several backwards... all these lands should be used to plant better and more food.
There are numerous Grenadian Health Care Professionals, waiting and wanting to serve. Close to 200. Plus the Nurses from New York, Toronto, Washington, and England.

@@wendyhestick8514 I know personally two young Grenadian trained nurses who recently moved to the UK, in view of the huge difference in salary.
@@johnbris5 well what about about the nursing school? I think they should try and bring it back( did they even consider doing so?) BY the time the teaching hospital is finished the first batch of nurses from the grenada nursing school can be dispatched there.
That would be amazing,but don't forget to improve the current general hospitals.

My little cousin just 36 years old died because the Grenadian hospital couldn't place a simple device call a pacemaker in his chest smh a basic outpatient surgery in New York. Grenada need train doctors and equipments, imagine they tried to fly him to Cuba for a simple surgery but he died before he got on that flight, what a disgrace

The comments here are from persons who are not living in Grenada or persons who are just malicious. PAHO had advised the passed administration that the present site of the hospital is inadequate for expansion and to house modern equipments yet still they went ahead and did additional works which is now proving to be substandard.
Well it seems people don't die in America from health conditions only from old age.

Body audits are not conducted on pstients wih extended length of stay (LOS) PRIOR TO INTENDED DATE OF DISCHARGE. IMPLEMENT A TEAM TO TURN PATIENTS Q2HRS. AND MAINTAIN A TURING SCHEDULE. ENSURE HANDS ON MONITORING BY ALL SUPERVISIORS. JUST QUESTIO ING THE FLOOR STAFF IS INSUFFICIENT VALIDATION
Absolutely, a waste of scarce resources.
I agree with other comments that suggest the government should focus on the improvement of universal healthcare in Grenada.
The problem at the moment is not the lack of a building but the lack of equipment, trained medical professionals, and services provided.
You can have a multi-billion building, but if you don't have trained doctors and medications, you're back to square one.
It will be great for the government to identify basic illnesses people's die from, what procedures people have to travel to Trinidad or Barbados for, and then address those needs.
My question to the PM: What happens to folks who need care, medications, and surgery for rare diseases?
Why do folks from Carriacou and Petite Martinique and the northern part of the island travel for basic healthcare?
Why does Grenada still use ambulance drivers who are not medically trained? EMS and EMTS.
Why not take the millions of dollars, which will be used to purchase the lands and instead invest it in the current system?
The land owner will be filthy rich, and more than likely, foreign contractors will be awarded the contract to build while poor hardworking taxpayers will be at a loss.
The lands should be used to attract a legitimate hotel development...not a CBI condo project but a hotel with actual daily guests checking in and out.
The building is not as important as the equipment an the talent available to tale care of ppl ...the building does nothin for us if we don't hve anythin to put in it

The practitioners who provide care definitely absolutely need extensive training. The hospital staff need ongoing INSERVICE SOMEONE, WHO IS QUALIFIED TO INSTRUCT NOT JUST SOME SENIOR CIVIL SERVANT WITH LACK OF KNOWLEDGE AND RELEVANT EXPERIENCE. IT DOESN'T EVEN AFFECT SOME MEMBERS OF THE MEDICAL AND NURSING WHETHER ONE LIVES OR DIES. I CAN ATTEST TO THAT. NEW HEALTHCARE FACILITY SND STATE OF THE ARTS EQUIPMENT??? BETTER START TRAINING IMMEDIATELY. OR else. Imagine on a medical ward there was no suction machine the was aware 2 patients gurgling with mucus in their throats and the staff on the ward made no effort including the supervisor to locate a suction machine. I had no choice but, to go another ward obtain some gloves to remove the accumulation of phlegm from my cousins mouth. The female house dr.had the nerve to ask me :" what is the problem?" I could write a book about staff performance, attitude etc. A lot to be desired when it comes to professionalism.
Why put all Grenada wealth in the south of the island ?
