In the Netherlands we do have vanilla slices too. We call them tompoes. With pink icing and with orange icing when it’s kings day, or the football team participates in an important European championship game. Your vanilla slices look delicious!
I am loving my Dahlia Sewciety Advent Calendar this year! The gifts are so nice and great quality, obviously curated with care. Todays was especially cute. I don’t have a channel or anything but wanted you to know that I’m loving it!
Love your fruit trees. The plum tree looks like its full of Christmas ornaments 😂. I wish my backyard was bigger. We grew up with a massive Orchard on our farm. ❤❤
The vanilla slices look delicious. I might have tried them when I was in Australia. I think in Canada, we have something similar except with lemon custard filling.
Yes - cats in boxes! Mine will also sit on pieces of paper that have fallen on the floor. She doesn't bother with tables as that involves far too much effort, she's so lazy. Think Garfield, but black and fluffy! We have vanilla slices in the UK, as well.
My partner works in the city and his favourite Vanilla slice is from Kennies. I have to agree they are amazing. Also our local bakery also have amazing Vanilla slice. It the Glenfern Bakery. We are massive Vanilla slice fans here. 😊😊
Vanilla slices are definitely an English thing. We used to have them every saturday as a treat in my family. The best were from Walls bakey in York. The fancy ones from Betty's had a mix of whipped cream and custard (mixed together). Have to eat with knife and fork or all you get is pastry and a lap full of custard!! Angela UK
Over here in the UK we usually call them custard slices - love them especially served chilled from the fridge. Think thy might originate in France because of the pastry layers but I remember having them as a child over 70 years ago. Brilliant Christmas vlogs Kristen!
A tompoes or tompouce is a pastry in the Netherlands and Belgium. It is the local variety of the mille-feuille or Napoleon, introduced by an Amsterdam pastry baker and named after Admiraal Tom Pouce, the stage name of the Frisian dwarf Jan Hannema. I am a Belgian and very familiar with this pastry. Enjoy
Melbourne has the BEST 🥰 Vanilla slices !! try the vanilla slices at Brunetti Oro on Flinders Lane. If that doesn't impress you, go to St Kilda and walk along the main strett and visit three cake shops that will ignite your taste buds!

Best vanilla slice it at Vintage Tearooms Pambula NSW 😊

NZ call them Custard Squares. Too rich for me.
I do give to several animal charities and air ambulance services as these are not supported by government.
