Offence changes to failing to provide… can’t put points on a Ltd company as doesn’t have a licence so take a £1000 fine. Yes it’s a grand but it’s easy to pay the money rather than all that drama…
You can't drive on 12 point I'm sure. I got temporarily 6 month ban and I didn't even know about it. My licence was to my old address and didn't get paperwork. It wasn't until I got pulled again later and officer said... oh I can see you've had a 6 month ban.... godsake

Every tried to push 2 ton of merc uphill to attach a tow rope to drag the heap off the motorway on your own ? ..... dont get me started . Problem with the cops is they leave scars so you remember and not always for the best .
I think you could have pleaded not guilty to the offence of driving on the hard shoulder. Your defence would be the engine was overheating and breaking down and you believed it was safer to get off the motorway than breakdown and cause an obstruction on the motorway. If you won (police would have to prove your car was not overheating) then back to 10 points. If you lost - then go for hardship plea to avoid ban.
Yes you can I'm on 13 points my last trip to court I was on 9 points I had 3 lovely female judges they gave me 4 points to take me to 13 they did this because you can drive on 15 and if i was to get caught again then it would be 16 points and a ban so for the past 4 years I've been driving like a 90 year old and I have to thank those judges because its slowed me down considerably and all my points will be gone end of Jan 2024 and my insurance for my van has been between 4k and 5k what a kick in the nuts.
@lion-mv2li It been a massive kick in the Nutts I had to toss a coin get caught speeding again and take a 6 month ban and then getting my licence clean but I didn't know the ramifications of doing that or as you said pay 4k to 5k each year for the next 3 to 5 years it was a tough decision I chose the later as I didn't have enough money to get me through 6 months luckily and I say luckily I picked up a few good contacts which helped and got me through it.
@MultiMcgurk but when you take out insurance the insurance company asks you to share your details with them you get a code from the DVLA and they check to see what points if any and the code that goes with the endorsement so lieing won't get you very far and if you manage to find an insurance company that doesn't check and you have an accident and something serious happens YOUR FKD.
Anyone who manages to rack up 12 / 13 points, needs to seriously question their driving ability, especially as an adult. Dont winge and whine about possible unnecessary harship caused by a ban, accept responsibility for it. No one elses fault but the driver.

I would refuse to drive on the hard shoulder after the fine for driving on the hard shoulder. I would have called the AA to tow it!
