I was a volunteer (not exactly willingly) for the guest speaker and she asked me “am I looking at you in the eyes?” And I said “yes” all nervously. “I’m actually looking at your nose.” “If you’re having difficulty looking at someone in the eye, just look at their nose” I’m paraphrasing but that really stuck with me. It really helped me with my first job since I’m a nervous person but now I can easily have direct eye contact with others.
I agree with what Bart said about reverse engineering your life. Especially figuring out what to do. It isn't really enough to tell kids the step by step of getting into college but rather figure what career they want and work backwards, you'll find out more options that way.
My advice being a single 32 year old father of a 13 year old teen boy. Hardwork, confidence, and positive mental attitude will get you far in life, so don't quit and keep pushing 💪💯
My parents and grandparents basically pushed me to go and finish college. I got a degree in psych, while they wanted me to go med. I’m now working in a consulting firm that required “a degree” but not a particular one. To me, it was worth it to just get a degree i was interested in because a lot of jobs just want someone with a degree and it doesn’t matter what subject matter it is (as long as it’s SOMEWHAT applicable, like there are def some worthless degrees too).
Teenagers these days need to learn to care about other human beings. To work for what they want, and try to make a positive difference in their lives and the world around them.
i don't understand why you guys are blaming the kids. you think they got that way out of nowhere? why don't you point your finger towards their irresponsible parents?
@@Dave_of_Mordor Yes, parents play a part, and their peers, and celebrities and even their teachers. Yet at the same time, when the teenagers are old enough to, by law, get a license and/or get a job, then they should also be old enough to know it is not okay to go around assaulting people, car jacking people, and killing people. Which is what a lot of teenagers have been in the news lately for doing. It doesn't take a genius to realize right from wrong. To treat people the way you would want to be treated.
@@bethnichols2875 the right and wrong part doesn't matter because they know it's wrong. the problem is that they also know they can get away with it. it is clear that those kids going around assaulting and killing people have never been discipline by any adults around them, especially their parents. I'm sorry but i will continue to blame these parents. hopefully a couple of years from now, you all will agree that we should bring back eugenics. then we'll never have problems like this again.

Slightly different but I would love to see you guys react to jubilee middle schoolers boys vs girls. Aba and preach had some really insightful thought on how kids are today vs the 90s and I would love too see the group opinion.
I think you guys would really be surprised by just how mature kids are today which is not surprising since they have access to all types of information within seconds.
Agree with Joe about school being too easy. Once graduating it was super disappointing like “that was it? I’m not qualified for shit! How do I have this paper that says I know anything about anything!?” So it definitely takes time to reallly think about want to do and what you’re gonna enjoy. But that’s too much to ask for a high schooler I think taking a year or two break after high school where they work full time and just come to terms with the reality of what it’s gonna take and what kind of income and life you want.
All I know about college these days is that most people I know say it is the hardest time of your life; you will undoubtedly be stressed when you start your career, but at least you’re being paid. I think this may apply more to the tryhards who put way too much pressure on themselves in undergrad and then learn to chill out as they get older, but I also believe that higher education leading into job prospects is way more competitive these days Oh, also, the UCLA speaker who Bart was talking about is Brad Delson, and his speech was legendary. He joked about how he knew that he was UCLA’s second choice after Conan O’Brien cancelled, and then he pulled out a guitar and sang for everyone 😂
7:21. I wish this was the case for me, I went into school not knowing what the fuck I wanted, tried different bullshit spent thousands of dollars, then asked my parents if I can take a break for a a few years . They said nah graduate on time, and told me I was a lazy piece of shit who didn't know how much money I was wasting. Got into a deep depression, failed tons of classes by not showing up or telling myself I didn't belong and then the funds ran out. I got 100k in debt with no degree. All they tell us is just go to college, some kids know what they want..but I'd argue a majority of kids don't. And I'm not like Joe, I didn't experience life yet so I took college like HS. And that's why I wanted time away but my parents were pushy that I finish school on time. The exact opposite happened that I didn't finish school at all and now I'm starting to figure out things I want but I don't have the fucking money and a large debt. The system is fucked up for sure.
Dropping a comment for the algorithm Fun fact: The Netherlands is home to more bicycles than people, with over 22 million bicycles in the country. There’s an average of 1.3 bicycles per person (many people own two bicycles). So don't feel too guilty if you're gonna steal a bike there, they'll most likely have a spare one.
Joe you use your psychology degree all the time! Lol On here and your vlogs you are always spitting real shit about people and their feelings and behavior!
You can tell Joe isn’t in the loop with what he is saying. There is a lot of help to pay for university but you have to look for it and work hard for it and turn in the essays for the scholarships . But a lot of students are lazy and don’t want to put in the work. And finish school with huge debt. That’s how I’m paying for physical therapy school.
Also please consider that not everyone will get the help. Resources are scarce, by manipulation of course, and alot of aid comes with stipulations. Not everyone will get the aid. So he is speaking to those who won't get the aid
bro school is so bs for so many people i was in the lowest class all the way through school just because im dyslexic and shit at English even though i did well in all my other subjects and exceled in the sciences, then i go on to futher education and doing one part of my desired course costs 4 times more than my dads entire 4 year uni course, and id still have to do 2 more courses to get fully qualified
Joe is absolutely write when he says college is to easy, all u have to do is treat each lecture topic like a how to guide and just READ what is written in a profs presentation. The only hard part about University is anything to do with logic/philosophy.
This is so dependent on what you’re majoring and plans you have for college. Engineering students are putting grueling hours of studying and doing homework. Architecture students are spending all night constantly designing and building models. Bart himself has described how little time he had even to just jack off when he was going to UCLA for pre-med. Not to mention growing your professional development side, whether it’s having leadership responsibilities at organizations or doing clinical work at a hospital to build up your experience. But this doesn’t apply to everyone, and it is fairly simple to just study for your classes and you will pass them. But there are a lot of nuances and for every student chilling and having free time is another student not sleeping and stressed out about their college.
@@chiapet2595...Yes, that is what I am referring to when I say courses involving Logic, this includes logical operations......... in any case, im sorry but as a former "pre-med" who's been accepted into a school as well as one who dabbled in just about all the faculties during my bsc, I strongly disagree. Advice to high schoolers:
College is not for everyone.
I was a volunteer (not exactly willingly) for the guest speaker and she asked me “am I looking at you in the eyes?”
And I said “yes” all nervously.
“I’m actually looking at your nose.” “If you’re having difficulty looking at someone in the eye, just look at their nose”
I’m paraphrasing but that really stuck with me. It really helped me with my first job since I’m a nervous person but now I can easily have direct eye contact with others.
you can also look between their eyes but thats pretty much the nose too
Won’t they realise you looking at their nose? Idk I realise when people are looking at specific parts of my face haha
My advice to the younger generation is, don't do what everyone else is doing. Be a leader not a follower.
And treat people the way you want to be treated
You have to learn how to follow before you can lead. Learn from the mistakes. What is right for you and then lead the way you want.
@liam Anderson vote for me in 2024 and I'll show you how not to be a dogshit leader
most people aren't meant to become leader... dumb advice
