@All In The Game the 14step is a huge factor for Femke. It's pretty ridiculous that she was even capable of being top 10 in the world at her height doing a 15 step. Once she gets adjusted, that should be an easy full second or more off her 400h without getting in better shape.

I would say that any hurdler that has an indoor or outdoor WR in the 400m is a more than viable opponent. It will be an absolute race. Bol in her current form is a much more formidable opponent than Muhammad was when she was in WR form and that is speaking volumes as to how this event has exploded with the top 3 in the last year all doing crazy times. Sydney is definitely the strongest and that shows but just like Wayde Van Niekerk on that special Olympic finals - anything is possible at any of these races.
We’ll have to see. You are probably right, but the gap is not as big as last years WC suggest. I think the gap in the Olympics is probably closer, with both having improved a lot since then. Bol probably has more room for improvement, she is changing to a 14 step like Sydney and her technique is also still not as good as Sydneys.
Femke is amazing, but if she improves by a full second (very difficult) she still won’t be challenging Sydney in the 400m hurdles. The open 400 remains to be seen since Sydney hasn’t run one since college, but I have a feeling it will be pretty darn fast. I know it’s good for clicks, but will Britton challenge Femke might be a better debate.
I think she's fairly likely to improve more than a full second. Sydney will likely still run faster than Bol in the hurdles, but will she still be able to run 50.6? Who knows.
I’m not sure if Sydney will be running the hurdles this year, but if she’s been working on her open 400m times, it’s certain she will run faster over hurdles as well. Since Femke is working on 14 steps for this year, I’m sure she will improve her time, but a full second is a lot in track. Last year she had a great season and didn’t improve her time at all. She is due, but we will see.
@@lasvegas4164 I do think Femke can gain a second. She somehow did not improve her PR last year due to a lot of bad weather races and the Sydney blitz in the WC. But she was clearly already a lot stronger than the year before. This year she is again clearly stronger, plus the change to 14 step, plus still room for improvement ninths hurdling technique, so a second faster is not that strange. Where Sydney is at is a bit more difficult to predict because she never runs races. But of course she will be very strong again.
@@jkf9167 Sydney said she was disappointed in her 50.6 because she’d run faster times in training so yeah I think she will run faster lol she’s competing against herself not the field at this point
Edwin Moses won 122 consecutive 400m hurdle races (9 years unbeaten), broke the event world record 4 times, won 2 olympic records, 2 world championship records, 3 world cup golds, and the gold at the 1986 goodwill games. Nine years unbeaten.
@pepelopezcrecimientopersonal Not really. Moses was fantastic but he never set the " unreachable" records of say, Flo Jo, Usain Bolt, Bob Beamon. Records always fall. The mark of good the record is is how LONG does it last. Sydney is in that class.
Bol competes tirelessly, is very well known on the global scene, has won the Diamond League twice and is one of the fastest hurdlers of all time. Underrated???
Maybe she's still not getting the clout that she deserves yet? Being referred to as underrated isn't an insult and honestly even being mentioned in the same sentence as Sydney is an achievement in it's own right.
“Underrated” has become overused. It’s a throwaway line by this time. It typically comes off as a mild diss to the audience, as it says “I, who am really aware and smart, understand how great she is, but you, the huddled masses, don’t rate her highly enough.” Please, pay no mind. It’s part of the social media colloquial dumpster. Here’s the main point: Sydney knows exactly who Femke is, and vice versa. They do not and will not “underrate” each other! 😅
A long-standing record is the women's 4x400m relay - held by the old Soviet Union, at 3:15.17 and set in 1988. It requires 4 legs at 48.8 seconds each. The US women may now well have 4 women who can do it. Sydney McLaughlin ran sub 48 in the last leg of last year's world championships. Britton Wilson ran 49.13 this spring and would be faster with a running start. Abby Steiner ran
Those Russian women were superior athletes, trained from an early age to near perfection. There's no way a diverse, rag tag group thrown together without the precision training necessary to avoid the waste of time while passing the baton will ever equal those phenomenal athletes' records. The motto of World Track - if you can't beat the Russians, keep them from competing.
Women 400 and 400h is in a golden age right now…on the bubble in the hurdles add Ms Little, Ms Cochran and potentially Ms. Muhammad might return to form and Anna Hall ..the 400 flat also has Ms Diggs and Steiner…..the great part is Bol, McGlaughlin, Wilson are all great performers and ambassadors of the sport….I’m a fan of them all
Old news. Bol is the world champion and made her name by running twice beneath the 52, with an European record to show, and that’s the best part, still improving.
Really felt like she gave it all with the 400mH WR. Hard to expect another WR from her this year, like you somewhat could in '22. I'm super interested what she can do in open 400 though.
Bol, Delelah, Briton Wilson, Authing Moe and Paulina, Sydney McLaughlin this is going to be a Historical World's... EPIC to say the least. Can't wait..
TRP, thanks for bringing us together, us the Track geeks. I don't know of any forum on the internet with such a wealth of contributions and heated debate in the comments. All about T&F. I salute you
Don't know how you can intro with Femke Bol as underrated. Anyone who follows track knows the great Femke Bol. Unfortunately for her, she is running in the generation of Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, the greatest 400m hurdler of all time. I think Sydney will take both the 400m and 400m hurdles this worlds and set new work records in both. I think Bol finishes 2nd in hurdles and top 3 in the straight 400m. Two amazing athletes, and it's going to be fun to watch.
No way you can accurately call Sydney the "greatest four hundred meter hurdler of all time." Many male hurdlers past and present would beat her easily.
@@vernonfrance2974 Why are you including males in the discussion? Sydney is being compared to females because she herself is female. When someone says, "Flo Jo is the greatest 100m runner," it is clearly in reference to females. So, it wouldn't make sense for someone to interject and say, "No, it's Usain Bolt".
@@stevechicco1158 I was responding to blueeyedbull who wrote "you can accurately call Sydney the 'greatest four hundred meter hurdler of all time.'" His statement was all inclusive and ignores the fact that there are definitely males who are candidates to be called the "greatest four hundred meter hurdler of all time." Although my response was right under blueeyedbull's comment I forgot to write "@blueeyed bull" to make sure it was apparent I was responding directly to him.
@@vernonfrance2974 you didn’t even absorb what Steve said. Again, the OG statement is referencing female athletes. Does not need to be directly stated. Steve provided great examples
@@mh0Ang95 It is blatantly apparent that the statement claimed Levrone was the greatest 400m hurdler of all time. I quote: "Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, the greatest 400m hurdler of all time." My objection therefore is completely appropriate. If Steve wants to amend his statement to "Sydney McLauglin-Levrone is the greatest FEMALE 400m hurdler of all time," fine. As stated, he is claiming she is greater than Karsten Warholm, and that assertion is certainly open to question. "Karsten Warholm smashed his own world record in the greatest men’s 400m hurdles race in history at Tokyo 2020 on Tuesday (3 August). The Norwegian became the first man to break 46 seconds with 45.94, smashing his own world record set just over a month ago on home soil in Oslo, with runner-up Rai Benjamin also well inside Warholm's previous best of 46.70." olympics.com/en/news/athletics-top-10-mens-400m-hurdles-history-warholm
Bol is underrated? By whom? Americans? Among European athletics fans, she's a household name. Well, Femke has obviously improved, but I still believe Sidney has the edge. But I'm not a psychic. We won't know until Budapest.
I'm hoping that you do a .video featuring Dalilah Muhammad. If there was no Dalilah Muhammad, there may never have been a Sydney McLaughlin. I think Dallilah Muhammad's flat out sprint from the gun, pushed the younger athlete to understand what could be accomplished.
Watch videos of Sydney's teenage races on UA-cam! She has been breaking the world records for her age group for a long time. 16 years old Sydney ran her 4x400 split in 49.5 ! At 17, she ran 400 flat in 50.07 in the rain. She would be 4th at the Worlds in Eugene with this time.
4:55 Usain Bolt 2009 would like a word. Since 1976, her event has dropped roughly 12% and she herself dropped it significantly lower with runners within a few % pts but she she’s still well clear. This suggests there’s still room to go on that record despite it being insanely impressive. There will be athletes that challenge that. However bolt in one championship meet pushed 2 records that have improved marginally (3% and 1%) since 76 (using % change as it mitigates and issue cross comparing different distances.) also both of Bolt’s performances earned world scores +30% stronger. It wasn’t even just that meet. 400mH it’s more important to win heats of course bc you run less of them. The only races Bolt “lost” were quarters and it happened twice - once en route to his 9.58 haha. I say all this NOT bc of Sydney. What’s she’s doing for her events are generational. I just feel like we were all lucky enough to witness not just a runner of his time that will fondly be remembered as youngsters pass up - but a machine that truly was the outer limits of what is possible for the perfect frame and strength to cover 100 meters. Fun exercise I didn’t know I wanted to go down so badly haha
Sadly in the states I’d say she is underrated. McLaughlin get all the spotlight, and it is well deserved, but things are a little different in the U.S than Europe with women’s 400 hurdles
That stood out to me as well. Perhaps if you don’t follow track she is underrated. Olympic medalist and world record holder. I thought everyone knew who she is.
‘We have honestly never seen an athlete quite like Sydney McLaughlin in the 400 hurdles’. We’ve never seen a female athlete in the 400h, true. But athlete? 122 straight race wins, 107 straight finals wins, 2 Olympic golds, 2 world championships, 3 IAAF World Cup golds, and a 10 year unbeaten streak…Edwin Moses be like ‘Hold My Beer’.
What about the fastest 400m hurdle champion of all time, Karsten Warholm at 45.94? I understand he is not "quite like Sydney Levrone". He is, in fact, M U C H faster.
it's a shame Sydney rarely races. I'm a big tennis fan and i can't imagine how hard it is to only get to see your favorite athlete compete maybe a couple times a year.
Makes for a treat though because you know you're going to see something amazing. I'm sure those appearance fees are looking very nice for her because of it.
femke bol changed her way of running potentially for the better. She still needs time to adapt to this new style but if it works out she will get even faster than before
Until Femke goes under 51 it's not even a debate. I watched, in person, Sydney run that sub 51 WC race. It was incredible. And don't forget about Delilah. If she comes back from injury it's would be epic.

I think everyone is waiting for this one! I think Bol is unstoppable in the stretch. There just always seems to be another "gear" she can go to. If they are neck and neck over the last hurdle.......? I can't wait to see it!
Bol is growing into her frame and it’s obvious she has put on a lot of muscle. I think she will challenge Sydney but those are large gaps at the moment. Wilson’s potential is still to be determined but her future looks very promising.
I don't think Bol's effort was moderate for that performance. She always kinda looks effortless in her races. Sydney's in a league of her own still. Bol could possibly challenge her in a couple years if she keeps growing like she does, I do somehow see her as a late bloomer
Make no mistake about it. There is no separate league in professional track. Even Bolt found that out in the end when he had to be helped off of the track.
I mean, in sport it's anybody's game until the last second, true. But the reality is that noone has touched Syd's times by a long shot. And to determine someone's effort was moderate, by merely watching them go, feels like a bit of a reach for me. I would be over the moon though if Bol proved me wrong in this though✌️
As a sports fan, the best thing about living outside the US is the consistent exposure to international athletes and a wide range of regional and global sporting events. It gives some perspective to the Sydney hyperbole. Sydney is one athlete only and, as incredible as she is, her very limited number of regular international competitions keeps her in a sort of niche superstar role in a moderately fringe or second-tier global sport. Right now she is a Big Fish in a moderately sized lake. It will be interesting to see what her image management team does moving forward. The world is ripening for the emergence of a transcendent female athlete and icon brand.
Obviously Bol will go well below 52. She was already strong enough to do so last year but somehow the circumstances did not play into her hands, lots of bad weather races and probably a bit shellshocked by Sydneys performance in the World Championships. She has become a lot stronger since she ran that 52,03, and now she is implementing the 14 step which should also make her faster. She also seemed quite shocked that she ran that 53,13 last week given it was quite a sloppy run. She implied that she feels she can run a lot faster, and whenever she does so she always turns out to be right as she is quite a modest person. Question is how much faster can Sydney go in the hurdles. If she raises the bar again I do not think that Bol will beat her, Wilson probably one step behind. It will be interesting to see how much the 14 step helps Bol, that plus her better hurdling technique has so far been a big advantage for Sydney. And it will also be interesting to see how a double at the WC would mean for Sydney’s times, so far she has always been the queen of hardly ever running and having that one explosion when it matters. Mind you I doubt that she will do the double, it would be so unlike what she normally does which is taking zero risks. She might also only do the 400 dash,
Bol will break 51 in 400mH and run a 48 in the 400m. Its great that Sydneys coach is confident she can run a 48, but she hasnt done it yet. Bol has in running 49.26 indoors. She also won the double in the European championships last year. Hope this makes for an awesome WC this year and an ever better showdown in Paris 2024
@@norwolf4765 BS, she may beat her but not by no 1.5 seconds. Bol's INDOOR time is 49.26 if you take off 1.5 for that indoor time Syd would need to run 47.76. Sydney has the superstar aura of the likes of Tiger Woods. Everyone just can't wait to see her compete. I want to see the 400M much more than hurdles. She will break the WR there too I think.
The history of athletics is full of examples of runners peaking at a relatively young age, then not improving afterward. Sometimes there is a long period of performance close to their peaks; sometimes subsequent performances are up and down. The fun for fans of the sport will be in seeing how it plays out.

It'll be an interesting year for these two. I've followed T&F long enough to know that when an athlete performs like McLaughlin did last summer, often they never reach that peak again. Don't get me wrong -- I want to see her do well and am as big a fan as any. But unless I'm wrong, we haven't seen her have the winter and spring that Femke Bol has been enjoying thus far in 2023. I think that Femke still has something left -- not necessarily breaking McLaughlin's world record, but still winning a World and Olympic championship down the line. I absolutely adore both these athletes.
I want to see an Injustice-like comic based around the flash. Think about it: he is basically unstoppable. The comics make it look like he slides on ice from a freeze ray but we see him able to comprehend things at light speed. He could stop any crime moments after it starts. No hero or villain could stop him, not even Superman. He has his op infinite mass punch, he can time travel, think infinitely fast, and even vibrate through things/people to take out important life needing organs. I’d like to see how a truly realized flash with specific motives would be written and how that world would look.
Talk is talk. Any given Sunday is the motto. Lets all just be happy to see the main event in 2023. By the way Ryan Garcia was not yet ready to challenge Tank nor Canelo vs Mayweather. Given few more years, it would have been an even fighting field. Buts thats so hard to ever match up.
I don't really know if someone can challenge Sydney, but its gonna be fun to watch. Now we have excitement in sprinting all around; 100, 110, 200, 400 and 400H. Cant wait!!!
This is hardly a two woman competition in the 400m this year. Britton Wilson and Marileidy Paulino have been just as impressive this year. Bol's run 49.2 indoors is only marginally faster than Britton's 49.4 in at the NCAA Indoors. The 48.98 Paulino ran last weekend has to make her the favorite until someone puts down a 48.6, which would be an American record. Wilson virtually can't do that while she is doubling in races 30 minutes apart so we won't likely see her best until USATF, and who knows which event she picks. June will tell a lot certainly.
I think Sydney will do it. Let's see if Bol can actually give her a hard time. She's had the opportunities so far and hasn't delivered against her. Only time will tell.

Thanks for all the amazing videos. I love all your updates on athletics events and records. Just a note though on this video. As per your top 10 all-time list, Sydney actually has 6, not 5. She also has the 3rd best record though I reckon it should have been 51.46, not 41.46. Cheers.
A comfortable 53.12 season opener sounds great until you compare it to Sydney's comfortable season opener last year, which was 1.5 seconds faster. I'm sure Bol and Wilson will continue to improve this year, but they already have a mountain to climb to get to where Sydney was last year and that's assuming Sydney doesn't improve further.

When healthy nobody on earth can challenge her.. However Bol has a small chance in the open 400m to challenge Sydney..Bol is taller and if she really puts forth maximal training and effort I believe she can run 48.3...But...will that even be enough to beat Sydney? I think Sydney is going for the WR in the open 400..She already has broken the 400Hurdles record 4 times over. How do you know Wilson will be passing Bol soon? I swear all Americans care about are their athletes. The indoor 400 is an obviously slower race than the outdoor and Bol is improving each year quite quickly. It’s ignorant to say that Wilson will obviously surpass Bol soon, when there’s no evidence of that. Bol has also a deeper resume on the international stage.
Wilson is phenomenal, and has a great future ahead of her, but what on earth makes it "obvious" that she'll run faster than Bol, the third fastest in history? Is it because she's still very young and in college? Because Bol and Wilson are the same age, both born in 2000, which would suggest that there isn't an obvious answer as to who will improve more on their current times.

She hasn't even matched Syd's 52.75 from FIVE YEARS AGO......
Edwin Moses won 122 consecutive 400m hurdle races (9 years unbeaten), broke the event world record 4 times, won 2 olympic records, 2 world championship records, 3 world cup golds, and the gold at the 1986 goodwill games. Nine years unbeaten.
Edwin Moses was a God of the track 👑🏃🏾🏃🏾🏃🏾👑
EDWIN WAS AHEAD OF HIS TIME
And he still wasn't in the class of Sydney McLoughlin
@@kenstewart5991 We have to wait to see if Sydney does the same than Moses to affirm this, don´t you think so?
Yeah, most rate Bol as 2nd best in the world!! Sounds about right, no way should she be ranked over Syd.
She has never beaten Syd
She has NO global golds, either...
She will be underrated until she proves she's able to beat Sydney Levrone, which should happen later this year.
Yeah, with Syd and Britton running at a new level this WR is definitely going down.
Have not seen Athing this year. Heard she was working through injury so probably the same 4x4 from 2022.

Bol ran 51,45 in London today. She closing in fast now. McLaughlin better pick up the hurdles again next season.

Great comment!
Bol is auch an amazing athlete, happy you are covering her.

You are mistaken! For those of us here in Europe, Femke Bol is far from considered “…under rated…” 😱😱😱
Sadly in the states I’d say she is underrated. McLaughlin get all the spotlight, and it is well deserved, but things are a little different in the U.S than Europe with women’s 400 hurdles
@@thedailystride5407 that's true

Femke is amazing and I got to watch her dominate the individual and 4x400 races in Istanbul this year.

In the stretch last year at the WCs she was a good 10 or 15 yards behind Syd. But she'll get tested by Britton which should be exciting.
Bol looks to be in amazing condition and her running mechanics look effortless. It will be an incredible race to see.
When is the race?
Bol is growing into her frame and it’s obvious she has put on a lot of muscle. I think she will challenge Sydney but those are large gaps at the moment. Wilson’s potential is still to be determined but her future looks very promising.
She does look to have put on some noticeable muscle. I hope that doesn't detract too much from that effortless efficient stride she appears to have.
What I can't admirer and lust after a hotty with a body and be distracted by a world class athlete
They’re. The. Same. Age.
THERES GOING TO BE SOME SERIOUS RACES IN THE WC AND PARIS NEXT SEASON..CANT WAIT TO SEE THEM
I don't think Bol's effort was moderate for that performance.
Lol. Imagine referencing anything about a woman not yet in her prime who has smashed records “hyperbole.”
Femke Bol is still learning to humo hurdles. Her head movement may slow her down. It's going to be a great track season!
Bol hasn't got a chance in the open 400m against Sydney .She will beat Bol by a second and half....no problem.
@@norwolf4765 BS, she may beat her but not by no 1.5 seconds. Bol's INDOOR time is 49.26 if you take off 1.5 for that indoor time Syd would need to run 47.76.

Hi warren, from Australia I can’t wait for Femke and Sydney to Clash. God only knows what time they can do.
Bol will beat her down the stretch. She has a more beautiful stride.

I love Bol but Sydney is Simply unbeatable in the 400hurdles...50.68! Bol PB is 52.03... Even if Bol Breaks her own PB by a full sec.. thats only 51.03...Sydney is the God of 400 Hurdles.
If she doubles she'll be more tired throughout the rds and that's Femkes chance to get gold 🏅 in the 400m. ( but don't forget about Shaunae Miller-Uibo)

16 years old Sydney ran her 4x400 split in 49.5 ! At 17, she ran 400 flat in 50.07 in the rain. She would be 4th at the Worlds with this time. How much can she make today at 23?
She might be working out with her brother Taylor, who has run 48.5 in the 400mh. Also he has run 20.6 in 200 mtrs and 46.8 in the 400mtrs.
Sydney, is doing it her way. She earned it. more power to her. Patience is not a given, it's acquired.
Quality is easier to attain when quantity of efforts are limited. However, Bol is earning a lot of money for competing well and often. Her goal is to be productive.

Bol, by practicing her new techniques often has a chance to improve. Levrone by resting a lot will likely be fresher when the competition gets hot.
I really think if she stressed a small little step step shuffle she would brake 50 seconds
When I said she could I didn’t want to think I was reducing the wrong runner
+Levrone on your titles from now on. She was so proud when she got that on her first race bib post marriage.
I would say Athing Mu is as dominant .
Dalilah and Salwa Eid Nassar. Salwa ran the fastest time since the world record in the open 400m was set. And she's back.
I knew Sydney was fast, but I guess I missed that 41.46 😂
I would love to see McLaughlin run the open 400, 400 hurdles, and the 4x400 relay at the next Olympics Games.
Soo glad you mentioned Britton Wilson, who ran nearly just as fast as Bol in the indoor 400m. Wilson will obviously surpass Bol very soon and she may be the only one breathing down the neck or actually challenge Syd in anything
Awesome vid as usual and thanks

@@andrewpearce7936 bol's own team mate is closing on her. there will likely never be another edwin moses
@@andrewpearce7936 you have an argument. Also though I live in America, Bol and many other atheletes outside the US are some of my all time favs like Mariah Mutolo, Juaqin Cruz, SAFP, Bolt, Bol, Haile Gebrselassie, Ingerbristen etc.
I agree Bol is improving fast, but Britton Wilson is younger and also improving quickly. Her PB in 400m indoor and outdoor are very close to Bol. Her PB for 400h is also pretty close. That's all the proof I have for my opinion. It will be exciting to see what comes about.

@@Elliottklassen true Femke Bol is merely months older. Yet we can all agree these two ladies are very close in ability. I feel it's obvious due to their times being soo close recently. Britton Wilson also seems to have more in the tank and does more at many more track meets. I could only imagine Wilson would pass Bol, if her workload was lightened to a level like Femke Bol, as far as meets and events run.
But hey I could be wrong. I know one thing we will surely find out. Bol may beat out everyone but Syd again, but next year and the next Olympics, Bol will have a true challenge to get on the podium.

I'm so happy to see women succeeding at women's sports without biological men (Lia Thomas) interfering.
