Doing the same with our chickens. I have them scratching up my lawn before I reseed .
To keep them cool I have a tub and a firebrick and a little water so the water pulls through the brick and evaporates for the chicks.
Cheers thanks again for a great video

That's exactly what we do to keep these guys cool. Works like a charm and no fancy tricks requiring electricity!

You are good instructors! Good Stuff! I had a Bobcat in the yard in middle of the other day. Roosters going crazy sounding off. Bobcat was stalking some hens didnt see me sitting there siesta....I stood up and he jumped 15 feet and over the fence.! We have a neighbor cat visits us regularly but no probs.

My goodness, I can't imagine dealing with bobcats. I think you were telling us about that one before and I can imagine it's a sight to see. We supposedly have a mountain lion that roams the large wash a few hundred yards from the farm and if that's true I'm keeping my fingers crossed we don't cross paths.

Looks good! I bought that book a while back but after the bobcat stole all the neighbor's chickens, I decided against a tractor. At least until I get the electric fence up, anyway. But after that I definitely would like the option to move the chickens around and improve the ground in various places.

They're really quite useful. We've used them to protect plants and of course chickens. Biggest issue with them is the lack of a permanent covering. Our sun just obliterates any kind of tarp within a season.

So jealous of the chickens. I would love to get some to help kill some of the scorpions in our yard, for the fertilizer, scratch and spread the mulch and of course, the eggs. Thanks for sharing.

Yeah, it's a travesty that folks decide it's not acceptable to be able to raise animals that have been living with us for literally centuries. Our first home was in an HOA that did not allow any livestock presumably because of the noise, but we had neighbors with barking dogs that kept us up all hours of the night.

Edge of Nowhere Farm I agree 100%. My HOA is so bad that I received a note because we have two flags in front of our house and HOA rules state only one flag. I’m not taking down either flag (US flag and thin blue line flag) and if they try to fine me I will call the news and take them to court.

@@danielfisch655 now that sounds like a FANTASTIC idea. I'm hopeful that this current crisis will open some folks' eyes to the tyranny that we've allowed into our lives. This is one of many examples.

I have a tarp as my coop roof at the moment and the zip ties do wear out and break fairly often. Do you guys have the same problem? (I'm in Peoria AZ)

Hey Lise, yes! We've tried a few different types of "UV resistant" zipties and tarps and they just don't hold up. We figure the tarp is going to wear about as often as the zipties and we'll need to replace them, so we just find the least expensive zipties we can and go from there. One thing we may try in the future are twist ties. We're using them right now to hold up our above ground grapevine irrigation. If they last ok we may switch to those. You can find rolls of that stuff pretty inexpensively on Amazon (we have one in our Amazon shop and it's under $8 for over 300 feet of it!). We'll see how it fares in the weather and let everyone here know how it works.

Do you think it would be easy to scale that down by 1/3? I'm considering quail instead of chickens.

Great question Brandon and yes. We used the plans and adjusted them to build a 4x8 tractor that fits down the lane between our orchard rows.

Move chickens at night when they are comatose.

That's usually when we do the deed, it does make for an easier transition.
