thanks for clearing that up for newbys, not everyone has a sewing friend that can guide them through every step or question, so self learning is many of us do and being thorough makes it stick. Thanks for taking the time Laura, I know I have choices of who/what to watch if it pertains to what I want to learn.
Thank you so much Laura for explaining the difference between this and the other mats that are out there. I've seen this at Joann and I'm going to buy one since now I know the exact use of it. Thanks for making things easier while explaining the correct use of it. Please do share more informative videos like that. Thanks again😊.
I've never seen one & I didn't know they existed.I don't have a space big enough for a mat that size, but it was interesting. I've learned a lot from you. Thank you!
Well, your video disputed what I had read somewhere else about not rolling my large pinnable mat. Since you explained here that it's perfectly alright to roll that big thing for storage I want you to know this has made me very happy. Mine is currently laying out flat on my sewing room floor so I don't harm it by rolling! I love my mat but it has been a nuisance to move around and keep flat. No more!!!
Great mat! I use my very old (45yrs) Singer cardboard folding mat for cutting out dressmaking patterns, to protect my dining table. Never seen your notion here in UK, but will ask some of the public sewers I know, like the Great British Sewing Bee ones and pattern designers. Thanks Laura! I enjoy hearing your 🇨🇦 accent, mine is now mixed with Scottish until I'm with fellow Canadians!! 👋
I have one of those old cardboard mats, too. Yellowed with time, a little worn around the edges (just like me) and still functional. Bought a new one, a few weeks ago. Smaller, thinner and I'm sure not as durable. I don't think I've seen the plastic versions either. Rarely get into the big fabric stores, these days.
So, I’m a bit confused. I’m needing to replace my cutting mats, I do a lot of rotary cutting. I prefer a large one like this. I found one of these on FB market place. I have not used it yet. After watching your video, I’m confused as to whether I can use my rotary cutter on it or not? Thank you
I love your tutorials. Keep them coming. I used to have one of these mats but don’t anymore. I do have an unrelated question. Are those sewing machine covers on machines behind you in the video toward the end? If so do you have a tutorial on how to make them. Thanks.
Next time you store it try rolling it inside out. That way you won't have to flip it when you leave it over night? Let me know how it works out. With lots of love 💜 from sunny 🌞 Arizona 🌵
It is a great mat for general crafting and sewing, keeps your surface safe and you don't have to worry about it. Quilting mats are designed for just that, quilting. I use my for clothing and crafts, it never leaves my table. Hope this helps:)
My husband is very protective of our furniture and i tend to be a little forgetful so i have one covering my sewing table and another put away for the kitchen table, when im home alone i stray into the kitchen. 🤫 BTW, Laura if i may ask what state are you in? Im in Hawaii, so i get things like that through amazon, we dont have craft stores other then a tiny and crazy expensive Ben Franklins. Love all that you teach. Mahalo 🌺🌺🌺
As I understand it, it's simply to protect your table, when pinning your fabrics. For example, pinning pattern pieces to fabric when making a garment. Printing on the mat is good for reference when doing same. I have a cardboard version that does the same thing. It protects my dinning room table when pinning and cutting out pattern pieces while using scissors. Purchased long before "cutting" mats came on the market.
Sasslette you can always have a drop down leaf table just like mine! I just build one when folded is 15 1/2 Width by 32 H. When open is 55 1/2 w x 32H I don’t have the space for it neither and this was the best option when cutting my sewing projects. My table is similar to the IKEA norden table. Check it out.
Why complain when you have the choice of what you watch? There are many subjects that don't fit my interests. So, I don't watch. Oh, so simple ........ No energy wasted telling those folks how to run their channels. ;-)
This was so informative!!!! I go thru cutting mats like crazy!!!!!

Good morning from Saudi Arabia mam where I can buy that kind Of rotary cutter mat
I have one..love it!
How do you care for it, clean it?
Do you have a video on how to store a mat?
It’s very good mat.
I have not seen the price how much?
I see these at JoAnn's. If they go on sale maybe I will buy one of them. Thanks
Watch for discount coupons. You may save more using a coupon than waiting for a sale price. Coupon discount may be higher.
Just a thought....
valee val I used one of Joanne’s 60% off coupons so I got it at a great price.
Yes......I used my 60% coupon.
I would like one please
Wonderful!! God bless you. How can I get that for my wife? I am located in Ethiopia

Hi Laura. She is from Canada, not sure where exactly.
Hi, Laura, I am from Ontario Canada. Thanks for watching
Ontario:)
Probably should have said I've enjoyed the tutorials on actually sewing a quilt
Hi
I m in Australia
Where do I get it please
please check with your fabric shop
Where did you get it from?
larger fabric stores carry them. you will find them all rolled up
I got mine from Joann’s.........used a 60% coupon😊
Why is it called pinnable? If you stuck a pin in it, wouldn't that damage your work surface?
no!
You can not stick a pin all the way through. It is just some that you can pin your fabric and protect your surface:)

Sounds great, however I would have no where to put even a smaller table and Ikea is about a 7 hour drive for me LOL
Sasslette ahhhh I understand. I guess that a big problem with crafters and no space...right?
❤❤❤

It is just a way for you to know the difference. I still call it a cutting mat:)
I'm entitled to speak my piece that's why it's called a public comment
You are as long as you can say it in a respectful way!
Sick of seeing this type of program/ tutorial
Kaye Ainsworth then don't watch it. I think that was a very rude statement.
Then don't watch it. I'm not wild about quilting, so I feel free to skip the videos I'm not interested in.
Why complain when you have the choice of what you watch? There are many subjects that don't fit my interests. So, I don't watch. Oh, so simple ........ No energy wasted telling those folks how to run their channels. ;-)
How rude! What are you watching it for then? Maybe you’re bored and wanting to spike reactions, just bad manners to Laura and us all too.
