Poland is now preparing for war in the hopes of deterring it from ever happening in the first place. They intend to double their land forces to a staggering 300,000 personnel over the next 5 years. Seeking to stop people from claiming they accidentally invaded Poland. To put this into context once it is completed Poland's military will be larger than the French and German forces combined. Which makes sense because a lot is at stake for them. Polish Prime minister Tusk said quote “We are living in the most critical moment since the end of World War II.
The next two years will decide everything,” He’s referring to how the war in Ukraine waging on their borders turns out and how successful their military modernization ends up being. Poland aims to achieve this gigantic goal by raising their defense spending to 4% of GDP or $133 billion dollars over 5 years; it's the highest percentage in the entire NATO alliance. It’s like their throwing out their old military and replacing it with a brand new one.
Already taken in 1.3 million refugees from ukraine. All of this is why I want to answer, what challenges Poland’s defense modernization effort will face? Which types of unique weapons systems will they need to invest in? which strategies will they deploy on the tactical level?

Yeah main bully of Europe for couple centuries, not Russia, no, it were Poland, but people like to forget parts of history they don't like
Yep. They illegally annexed the West Ukraine, Belarus and a half of Lithuania in the 1920th when Russia was in the middle of the civil war.
Then they made a Pikachu face when Stalin got those lands back in 1939. And pay attention, those lands are still in respective countries to this very day for the joy of the locals.
@@RustedCroaker Is that why most of today's Eastern Europe strongly dislike Russia, but at the same time Eastern Europe has no quarrel with Poland?

Poland is a trable maker.
When talking about the history of Poland, I would like Poland to be presented not only as conquered and as a weak country that must defend itself because everyone conquered it, but the entire history of Poland to be presented, because there was a time when Poland was also one of the most powerful country in Europe

@@mattinterweb I like it and we have to break stereotypes. Best regards.
I have lived and worked in Poland many times; definitely one of my favourite countries. I made friends with many there, and it was interesting talking about their history. They were saying that the Poles are a proud people, but that comes at a price. A joke one of them told me was that a Pole was praying and asked God “Why did you make such a beautiful place, with rivers, lakes and fertile farmland just for us?” And God answered “Wait until you meet your neighbours.” Their history is a rather sad one, at one point their nation was split up three ways between the Prussians, Austro-Hungarian and Russian Empires for centuries. Reborn out of the ashes of the First World War only to be invaded by the Soviet Union within weeks of the guns going silent on the Western Front. They repelled the Soviet aggression in 1920 and enjoyed a 19 year period of uneasy peace. 1939 brought the two front war between the Nazis and the Soviet Union, occupation, Operation Barbarossa, Soviet occupation and Communist rule until 1989. I think they have a right to be a little uneasy. It’s a beautiful country in a bad neighbourhood. I can fully understand their defence spending.
Well history is not only 100 years ago. At the end of the XVI's the poles where running over russia in Moscow (that period is know in russian history as the "troubled times). They are not poor little angels. They are aggressive by nature. Ask their neighbours.
Thank you very much for your open-mindedness and your willingness to learn about our history, but also to understand us Poles. Unfortunately, as a nation, we have been through a lot and that is why we can be quite reserved towards strangers at first (the younger generation has not experienced terrible things and are much more open) and stubborn, sometimes too stubborn. We know that but it's the result of all those wars and occupation by Germans and/or Russian orcs.
The story of people of East and West Prussia before they were completely wiped out (around 12 million German people in total) their culture, their architecture, arts, language was a lot more unique and fascinating than what was replaced with after the war ended.
As a Ukranian, I can assure U that fights on polish territory was a retaliation of Poland invading neighboring countries. They attack Ukraine many times on their way to Russia and always were pushed back all the way to Poland. Not many like Poles cuz they start shit then cry when they get their asses kicked. Red Army lost 600k soldiers liberating Poland and to thank them, they rknocking down memorials of the fallen soldiers.
Soviet Union did not exist in 1920 by the way. It was all part of Russian civil war, after two revolutions and abdication of the tsar.

It's in dissaray and they need to decide wether to shrink properly, specialise and be elite in specific areas to assist allies extremely effectivley (this relies on NATO) or to increase funding and become a heavy fighting power (Less reliant on NATO) and it needs to make a decision quickly. There's nothing wrong with saying "Poles" instead of "Polish people" - it's a normal term and doesn't sound offensive :)
Poland is aware that it is surrounded by treachery and needs to be able to defend against multiple attacks on multiple fronts and also must do offense. Remember that Poland never surrendered during WW II. While the army was defending against the Blitzkrieg, Russia invaded. The Polish army went to Africa and attacked the Axis there, then fought their way up Italy. The Polish air forces defended Dunkirk and the UK. It was evil for the US and UK to award Poland to the USSR as a prize for having started the war by invading Poland
Sir,may I have the honour to respond? Churchill only had one demand for Stalin, and that was for free elections in Poland after the war. Stalin always said “yes” until the red army occupied Poland and he then installed his own government. We weren’t helped by the USA because Roosevelt thought keeping Stalin happy was more important than Polands liberty. Roosevelt was desperate for Stalin to join the war against Japan, but that is no excuse. We British were horrified by Polands fate as we had fought side by side with Poles since the start of the war. The best fighter pilots in the RAF were the two Polish squadrons, we remember the Polish victory at Monte Cassino, the destruction of the Germans at the Falaise Pocket and General Sosabowskis paratroopers rescuing our paratroopers at Arnhem. My country owes Poland a debt of honour that is too big to ever be repaid, but I believe we will stand with Poland forever. God bless Poland from 🇬🇧
I agree with you. Poland is surely aware that her current allies are undergoing internal strife, and could possibly be completely unable to function as allies as they deal with internal threats. These allies could suddenly become enemies when internal political shifts occur.
No kidding. For the Allies to give Poland to the godless tyrant Stalin was treacherous and disgraceful.
@@erikriza7165we didn’t give it to him,he conquered it with his red army. What were we supposed to do? Start ww3 while still fighting ww2 against the Japanese?
I agree with everything you said, except that the US & UK were evil towards Poland. Please tell me what they could've done to change what happened?? Stalin wasn't removing his army's without a fight & neither the US nor UK could've taken the country without all out war with Russia & nobody wanted that

In ww2 no nation fought harder than Poland, and no nation got less out of the war. Many Poles fought with the British army and earned an😊unequalled reputation for courage and competence. The best squadrons in fighter command during the Battle of Britain were Polish. A army saying was that every division needs good intelligence officers, and the best were Polish. If you had one Polish intelligence officer in your division, that’s all you needed. Any NATO unit would be happy to fight alongside the Poles.
Lasted 27 days in WW2 , even France lasted lasted longer 1 month 12 days. Bunch of 🤡😄
@@Goorood A clown would make a statement like that. Poland was under occupation for how many hundreds of years? Poles fought on every side of every war in Europe, in the name of their occupier. They gain their independence, stop the communists from spreading to the rest of europe and conquering Poland in 1921. 19 years later WW2 breaks out. In those 19 years they had to rebuild their country and prepare for a war meanwhile their neighbors have an easy 100 year head start in terms of factories and industry. In those 27 days they fought the Germans in the West, South and North. 15 days after the Nazis invaded, the Russians said HELLO from the east. Molotov ribbentrop pact, cha ching. Poles fight in practically every major European battle in the western front afterwards, conquer monte cassino, and in return they arent allowed to march in the victory day parade. Hi, from Poland
I just wanted to say how it is kind of ironic when you started to say about invasions of Poland and begun with the footage of battle of Grunwald. The Greatest victory in Polish history, when we invaded Teutonic Order + the largest battle in medieval history of european continent.
*_"Igitur qui desiderat pacem, praeparet bellum."_* - The original Latin of the expression "if you want peace, prepare for war" comes from the book "Epitoma Rei Militaris," by the Roman general Vegetius (whose full name was Publius Flavius Vegetius Renatus). Thank you, Google.
So, nothing has changed throughout history - and there are quotations for that too.

Poland remember what happened in 1939. My Poland friend said his grandfather's entire family was killed after Nazi and Stalin invaded. His father survived by escaping to France.
Not many people know that it was Russian and Germany together that started WW2 in September 1939, they had a secret pact. In fact, it is Russia that has done the most evil over the last few hundred years, by far much more than the Nazis. And they continue to this day, it seems to be in the Russian genes to be evil.

No, they didn't learned from history. I live in Poland and i know what i'm talking about.
I'm Polish and here's some fun fact. Ministry of National Defence made a program for young people (18-35 yr) called "hollidays with millitary" or "vacations with army". There's 3 of them, each lasting about 4 weeks, happening one after the other in the span of entire summer in over 70 locations. All you have to do is call and register. To encourage us to partake, they pay much more than minimum wage (with is very temping in this economy). You get full training and they get to register you as eligible for draft. So far it's advetised everywhere and a lot of people is acutally exited to go

Damn! You are really hitting your stride, Cappy! Another excellent video and discussion of an evolving issue. Poland may have challenges in meeting its current objectives for defense and the social sector, but it’s at least got the right attitude. Much more confident in Poland doing what’s necessary than Germany, for example. Also, Poland doesn’t have to go it alone outside of the defense sector. Much of its planning will require a large, highly trained workforce. People everywhere are looking for good, well-paying jobs, and I’m sure many would be willing to fill in any gaps in that area where available. Great video, look forward to the next!
