Today I planted Sweet Pea seeds in celebration of Ruby Sherrod. She helped save the Blackfeet from whooping cough many years ago.

learned the family secret when I was 40 years old, the person who I thought was my uncle stopped in midstream and began staring at my face intently. He then blurted out that I was the spitting image of my great grandfather, then he added, you know, he was full blood Blackfoot, Jolene, a mixed blood, says. Never met my great grandfather or any of my real family, to my recollection and never saw a photo of him but do take comfort in the fact that I can look in the mirror and see his reflection.

My father was I believe about 3/4 Blackfoot how ever I can't trace it back...... he was in the south in the fifties and suffered a lot of discrimination due his background so he wouldn't tell us anything about his heritage for fear we would suffer the same... if anyone has any links to anything that would help me find out anything about this please shoot them to me.... thanks

who migrated from the Great Lakes north and west into the Saskatchewan River valley, Canada, and Montana, in the early 1700s. Their name derives from their black moccasins. They comprise three sub-tribes: the Peigan (Pikuni), Blood (Kaini), and Siksika (Blackfeet); and speak an Algonquian dialect. Like the Plains Indians, they were skilled buffalo hunters even before they acquired horses and guns in the 18th century, and had a warrior culture. White settlement and the near extinction of the buffalo in the 1880s ended their nomadic lifestyle. Most now farm reservations. They number about 27,100 (2000) in the USA, and 15,000 in Alberta, Canada. (I Hope This Helps.)

Thanks so much for the information... this makes a lot of sense because that's where my grandparents on that side were from my father would not speak much of it and by the time I became interested in researching it , all of that part of my family had passsed away. Very helpful, thanks again

I have no idea I'm still trying to research this...i didn't know my fathers family and can only go back three generations from info I got out of his babybook after he passed. I tried to look on ancestry sights but there are little to no records.

This is SO BEAUTIFUL. I think it is so sad that an American flag has any place at any of the Native Indian get togethers. The American flag in my opinion has no place in the Native world.
