It's not correct to say that the flashlight is useless. Try closing yourself in the darkest room, let your eyes get used to the darkness, and turn the flashlight on. Although it will not be as bright as a cellphones screens or camera flash, you will still be able to receive enough light for finding a keyhole, or searching smth in your backpack or whatever. There's always should balance in functionality. Garmin was correct to include the flashlight option, as using in really dark conditions can be potentially useful. sorry for criticizing. It's just my opinion.
Nothing strange in disconnecting the device which is in water. Water conducts the electromagnetic waves differently than air, so it's all in order. Nothing wrong here.
I'm deciding between this watch and the Coros Apex. I will use it for trail running, hiking, biking and indoor workouts. Watched a lot of reviews but still can't make up my mind. Which one would you choose?
Some are good points, but I think we have to take them little bit with grain of salt as this is not really a scientific device which will always give you accurate measurements. Also the flashlight point is something I give Garmin a credit and thumbs up for even the light from the LCD is very dim at least they've tried to give you something to shine with when you are in the dark, so I give them credit for at least for trying something.
Not always illuminated. It has a backlight and can also be used as a dim flashlight. it can auto illuminate within settings or can be turned on manually with a click of any button.
I feel like the find my phone features are something you just can't make better because of iOS restrictions. Going to the actual app to turn the find my phone sound off etc. So I wouldn't put the blame on Garmin. At least it has that function. The same goes for the flashlight. It's nice to have it there if you really need it and don't have your phone on you in some cases, but it's not perfect. Most of the other watch manufacturers don't have either of those functions. :)
I have a problem with the backlight on my instinct solar - its not bright enough even when its set at 100%. my regular instinct is way much much brighter - does anyone have this kind of problem too?
overall the watch is nice and good. everything has their issues and similar stuff.remember its not precision instrument its not medical hardware. on android evrything works fine it is ios issues...
Ya it’s a super nice watch, and of course it’s not a medical instrument. Absolutely. My wife does Android I’ve done lots of testing on her platform as well, same issues and some others as well.
@@logdoggybrown my Instinct is solar model. It takes forever to measure the SpO2. I don't know whats wrong. Because it works prior to the update of the firmware.

I agree. It's useful to have it and can help you in a bind.
I use it

Thanks for in depth review. Looking to get this watch for fitness data and a illuminated watch. I can’t see a thing on my watch in the dark lol
when i go sleep and wife is already long asleep the light is perfect :D
The actual problem is steps count. When you are running a stroller, it will not pick your steps, since your hands are still. Thats what I experience
-my watch connection frequently disconnected with apps phone
-my watch frequently turn off by itself
please advise what to do
same thing happened to mine. everytime i switch 'run' or any other gps related activity, it turned off by itself

Does the watch illuminate in the dark? E.g. is the screen visible on its own or does it have a light function?
