One thing really helped me to make this shift towards focusing on myself: it’s Daniel Sloss’s comedy special “Jigsaw.” This infamous special apparently made thousands of couples around the world to break up; countless engagements broke off, etc. It also made me stop looking for a guy to spend the life with and just focus on my own “jigsaw.” If someone comes along, that’s cool, but if no one does, I’ll have my own life built.
I guess that sort of help may also be an unconscious desire to control a person and relationships. And they may eventually leave because there's no space for them to grow, to be themselves.
