Burn my bread. What a phenomenal game Persona 3 is, from having some of the deepest and most emotional social links, to the overall unique atmosphere the game provides, it's definitely my favorite of the series and imo a game not worth skipping even if you are afraid of a little difficulty. Also, the fans are cooking something up for P3P to make it definitive. Cuz y'know, they always do what Atlus won't.
P3 is one of my favorite games from Atlus, but my most favorite game from Atlus is Catherine. When P5 and Catherine Full Body came out, I thought: Damn... it just isn't the same anymore. P3 and Catherine were spectacular experiences for their time. I loved how you could make some dialogue choices throughout the game. I expected Atlus to create bigger, more beautiful, more modern versions... with another engaging story... maybe similar to Detroit Become Human but with its own actual gameplay. Oh boy, Atlus is very far away from that.
One change from the original into FES and portable that I rarely see people mention is that in the original on the night before a full moon you can grind in tartarus without your party members getting tired due to how anxious they are. This was changed in FES so your party members get tired just like any other night which removes the safety of overleveling before a boss fight you may struggle with. I used to think this change was bad but nowadays I appreciate it that change. Know it's not a change specific to the portable one but figured I'd bring it up as I think it was a neat part if FES' rebalancing from the original
The best way to play this game is by playing the FES version with a ps2 emulator and a mod that lets you control you're team members and fixes fusion. Its the way i played and honestly it made me enjoy the game a LOT more. If you're playing for the second time then i recommend playing the portable version because the girl mc is actually worth it.
Awesome video as always, sack. About P3P VN style, I think this was an aesthetic choice given the fact that VN were popular on the PSP back in the day, to the point they tried to grab that audience to a more standard jrpg narrative.
I really don't mind the more visual novel style of gameplay or the portable version, especially because I usually fast travel in games where that's an option and also I like visual novels in general. The fact that the animated cutscenes aren't there definitely kills the vibe of some scenes (especially the introduction and the part where you first summon the persona) because they nail the tone so well it feels empty without them. About a year ago my older sibling was playing p3p on their vita because they bought it through the online store and I pulled up the animated cutscenes for them when necessary because I want them to get the full experience. I think they enjoyed their experience a lot although it's not their favorite persona game I don't think the visual novel style impacted the experience too much but 🤷🏻♀️
I'll say I think the Awakening cutscene is worse. The Thing that comes out of Orpheus is to neat, it attacks where you want it, it's neat, and it's panting like it's tired, presumably meant to be feral but just makes it look all way more in control. In Portable the sheer speed of the first attack and how it rips and tears the enemy sells it way better. I honestly thought it was going to attack Yukari the first time I played, I thought the story was going to be about controlling this berserk thing and that Orpheus was the 'safe but weak' option.
With the rumours of remake, i really wish the full potential of P3 to show up. P4 is my entree to this series and I'm proud to it but experiencing this game, especially in P3FES for the first time is one of the best gaming experiences of my life and I would love to see that in a new way.
It's weird that the reasoning for removing the 3D roam + cutscenes is "the PSP couldn't handle it" when _Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep_ came out on PSP. As much as P3P suffered for those removals, the Quality of Life changes made it more preferable to me than FES. I need that party member control, for one.
i just turned this on yesterday briefly. loved the quick intro w gun. felt confused w point n click aspect right in beginning but curious how it opens up
Also, i personally loved the AI party members. Let me explain: It definitely frustrated me when they'd make mistakes, but their actions added to the characters' personality. For example, the notorious Marin Karin - spamming Mitsuro, that fitted her character so much, she's someone who wishes others to obey her ("obey my command" she yells to her persona, and makes you a member of the Student Council without even asking you) so it makes sense that she wants to make her enemies obey her and destroy one another. I was also way more immersed in the game, I actually felt as Makoto, teaming up with these other people instead of controlling them. I got way more excited in battles, when I achieved victory thanks to my teammates. For example, in P5, I'd never feel like saying "thanks Ann", when she'd heal Joker, or "great job Yusuke" when he'd crit an enemy, because I controlled them, I was them. In P3, it felt so awesome when Yukari wouldn't miss or when she'd heal me and when Aigis would get a crit, I was so immersed. 👌🏻 I know it's an unpopular opinion, but that's how I feel personally. Once again, great video. I subbed!
I want to play this game, but taking out the animated scenes and turning the world exploring into a point and click prevents me from doing so. I’m sure it has an amazing story and mechanics but I just can’t seem to get over those changes…
I know how you feel. I'm playing P3 Portable on Switch and it took me a while to actually get into the game. I think it took me like an entire month before I actually got to the second full moon just because of how often i was dropping the game and picking it up again. Eventually I ended up getting an emulator to play FES and the simulation aspect of P3 became so much better, but the dungeon crawling was awful since you could not control your party members directly and the stats of the game made certain stat buffs and conditions extremely frustrating.
I absolutely agree with everything said in this video!!! You're absolutely right, P3 is an amazing experience, one of the best games out there imo and maybe the best Persona in terms of story and themes. P3P is the worst P3 version, despite its gameplay improvements. Atlus should have combined P3 FES and P3P and properly remaster the game, instead of the cheap PSP port that we got instead. No cutscenes and 3d world really hurt the daily sim aspect of the game and its atmosphere, and break the immersion. And The Answer, despite how controversial it is, it's extremely important for the story. It's a proper epilogue, necessary for the full P3 experience. Let's hope the P3 Remake rumors are true, P3 deserves it!
Played FES a few months before Portable. Give me Portable any day. In this series's case, I'll always take more story over gameplay any day. Plus we're rumored to get a P3 remake with the graphical and gameplay quality of P5 so I'm good using Portable while I wait
I want to put a friendly reminder here that if atlus had choosen to make p3p in 2 umds like final fantasy type 0 we would've had the definitive p3 experience with all the anime cutscenes and 3D overworld back in 2010 (im just as sad about that).
I do like this game but man I don't know what they where thinking not giving you direct control over your party members even back when the game first came out it was such an outdated mechanic the only way I ever go back to this game is if I use a mod that gives you direct control over your party members.
IMO, Atlus were lazy - they could have taken the 3D graphics from the PS2 version, reworked the visuals and the UI, then they could have taken the direct command of the characters from the PSP version - and voila: best of two worlds.
I came into this series with Persona 5 and I played the shit out of that game. I bought the persona 3and 4 bundle because I never got to play them and honestly for a first time playing Persona 3 stole me away from persona 4. I don't fully know what It is about it but I already sunk in a good 10 hours into the game and man I bought it 3 days ago. Also I haven't really left The dark hour once I was let free in there, Its such a new experience then momentos

Love Persona 3 FES, couldn't get into Portable. I have it emulated using the HD Remaster mod by MeovvCat, as well as Direct Party Commands mod. Closest to the perfect Persona 3 experience we may ever get, unless Atlus remakes Persona 3 FES (unlikely).

People have been argueing over which version is better for years the thing is both fes *and* portable are the superior editions for different reasons. Some people would say without the walkable overworld and 3d backgrounds portable is bad and cheap and how fes is better for having anime cutscenes and not the inengine 3d cutscenes but others will say without the additions and changes the female route has aswell as the controllable ai the game is just unpleasant to play.
The point is Its all subjective, their isnt a "inferior" version. I’ve only played 4 Golden and 5/5 Royal…. I’m actually excited to play P3 now. It will probably be the portable version because it’s just convenient to have on the Switch. But I still have a PS2. So, we’ll see…
P3 & 4 were originally cross marketed with the SMT moniker, and played more like SMT games difficulty wise. Then came FES / Portable / Golden. I couldn't get into FES personally, not being able to import my existing file, and erased progress in The Answer made it feel like a stand alone product instead of an extension to the original game. Difficulty wise they have been getting more easy, and it takes away that gambling feel, and sense of accomplishment that I get from games like Dark Souls. I also dislike that it feels like you can do everything without planning it much, which fed into NG+ as a way to address your FOMO. Yes I get that you can self-adjust the difficulty or challenge by self-imposition. Overall however, I think relegating difficulty to SMT, and story / social links to only Persona do both of those franchises a disservice. Hopefully Metaphor being its own thing will address that, because if p6 is going to be more high schoolers, more easy, more chill / cozy atmosphere weakening the bold themes, and less weight in your decisions I am just not interested. That and the CrapComization of Atlus by Sega / Index Corp selling me the same game over and over with ridiculous DLC packs speaks volumes about predatory monetization, and what they think of their player base. Chumps chasing the first nostalgia hit, it never being as good. There is something to be said for how newer iterations respect your time more, but there is something more to be said for that hit of realism in making bad decisions a la going into dungeons when sick or tired not taking away your choice, but offering you consequences that while spicy and bad to some, felt more natural / honest / realistic / memorable to me.
I've always wanted to try this series, but I know that half the game is a high school sim and that really doesn't appeal to me at all. Now that the games are on Game Pass I might finally give them a shot.
If gameplay is the main thing you're interested in, you might as well try mainline SMT. You get to experience more serious/grim stories without the high school life focus.
Great points made in the video and FINALLY someone who prefers the FES version. Don't get me wrong I'll probably buy portable on steam, but I'm not a big fun of the visual novel/point and click aspect of the game and the no cutscenes thing. One thing tho I don't see people mention as an argument against portable is that while portable has a new protagonist in the game which almost adds a "second campaign", the FES had The Answer which is literally a whole new campaign and answers many of the questions left in the original game. I get that it wasn't so great, but it still remains a sequel to the original story and I see people overlook that.
They were able to make 3D environments for Tartarus so I really have no idea why they couldn’t do the same for the rest of the game , it’s not like it even that big
I understand why people love this game but in my eyes what persona 4 and 5 did made the series better, I understand how being able to ruin a social link and make people not be your friends anymore sounds like a interesting mechanic but since all the persona games is time based having a mechanic that reverses that is just annoying to deal with, and I know persona 3 and 4 came out before 5 but the dungeons in both of them are easily the worst part of them, they just feel like your standard dungeon crawlers, it’s hard coming back to this games after how persona 5 improved the fighting
I love P3 so much, definitely my fave of the Personas (I say, still needing to play the P2 duology). Played all FES, and played most of P3P when it was on PSP (the PSP is just so uncomfortable to play on for long sessions though so I never finished it lol)
off topic but i downloaded dragon quest monster jokeer 3 do i have to play this game in order because some random woman is telling my character to regain his memories
It ain't that hard tho (p3p) although you all may wanna grind your personas after the final showdown which I never did cos laziness so never beat it, lol Still lots of fun in Tartarus gameplay.
I can easily answer the title yes we need this game give me a ps4 version please not the portable one I would do anything to support them by sending money or anything I need persona 3
I think most of this social stuff and slice of life stuff is just so annoying I play these games for the story and not all this other stuff also combat in persona games is just always to hard the difficulty is unbalanced
15 hours later, and I couldn’t get into this game or the story for some reason. Tartarus was especially annoying. The characters weren’t super interesting to me either
There's rumors of a remake of P3 being in the works, going by a r/gamingleaksandrumors post. It's remaking FES and not P3P, so the one thing worth it about this remaster would be the feMC route.
@@kiksterflyprobably P5, while I like Persona 3’s theme, story, and overall character development better, P5 has actually designed dungeons and is more expansive in general. It’s slightly easier, but both are easier than P4G. Also note, this video was made before P3R came out or was announced (it actually came out in Jan. 2023 and the thumbnail and title were probably just changed to be more relevant), so that’s why it isn’t referenced.
@@kiksterflyalso note: probably get royal unless you plan to play both to see the differences, which I personally don’t recommend because that would take more than 200 hours.
Yeah, why bother trying to learn the mechanics and intricacies of a given game when you can just play the dumbed down sequel that allows you to be as brain dead as humanly possible.

How hard would it be for them to just have P3 Fes with party controls? Hell throw in this easy port job of P3P if FeMc's fans are that ravenous.
I heard somewhere they lost the source code for FES. Don't know how true that is
I understand why people love this game but in my eyes what persona 4 and 5 did made the series better, I understand how being able to ruin a social link and make people not be your friends anymore sounds like a interesting mechanic but since all the persona games is time based having a mechanic that reverses that is just annoying to deal with, and I know persona 3 and 4 came out before 5 but the dungeons in both of them are easily the worst part of them, they just feel like your standard dungeon crawlers, it’s hard coming back to this games after how persona 5 improved the fighting
9:31 what's funny - they are on the same engine, Renderware.
"Persona 3 made the game too hard."
Laughs because they toned things down in portable. This is why I still wanna play FES.
Honestly, I played FES a month or two before the ports and I prefer Portable honestly but I can see why people want FES
My only problem with portable are the anime cutscenes
What about P3 Reload?
Before they knew it existed. Why it's kinda goofy to make a video titled 2024 without knowing what's coming in 2024
@@floobersman guess he should make another video then
Persona 3 Reload Enter The Chat
hardcore doesnt mean good
And edgyness is not equal to deep.
Yes of course
" becomes your friend for no reason. " 🤨
I WILL BURN MY BREAD!!!!!!
I love P3 so much, definitely my fave of the Personas (I say, still needing to play the P2 duology). Played all FES, and played most of P3P when it was on PSP (the PSP is just so uncomfortable to play on for long sessions though so I never finished it lol)
Did you prefer one version over the other?
This video is awesome
off topic but i downloaded dragon quest monster jokeer 3 do i have to play this game in order because some random woman is telling my character to regain his memories
Have you sackchief played the switch version? Is it a remake?
It’s a direct port of P3P
tbh I'm waiting for the rumored p3 remake
It ain't that hard tho (p3p) although you all may wanna grind your personas after the final showdown which I never did cos laziness so never beat it, lol
Still lots of fun in Tartarus gameplay.
Sadly the portable drops all the anime cut scene and 3d spaces. FES is all that, but portable just looses too much to enjoy as much for me.
Reload is the best version I think
I can easily answer the title yes we need this game give me a ps4 version please not the portable one I would do anything to support them by sending money or anything I need persona 3
Nahh the best story is 2. But this is defo close second
I think most of this social stuff and slice of life stuff is just so annoying I play these games for the story and not all this other stuff also combat in persona games is just always to hard the difficulty is unbalanced
The steam version worth it or just emulate The psp version?
They’re both the same basically but the Steam has AI smoothing which I don’t like
15 hours later, and I couldn’t get into this game or the story for some reason. Tartarus was especially annoying. The characters weren’t super interesting to me either
3:18 lol
yes even in 2060 would be worthy
LETS GOO
Why is this restricted ?
Probably because of the Evokers, I’ve tried appealing it and UA-cam support were being assholes about it
@@sackchief that's stupid
Oooo yeah (babadababa babadababa)
P3 is the best Persona game to me
Short answer yes
lol you should have said all the bad stuff about portable at the beginning lol😅
THAT WAY!
Make new DQ vids man
yes it is just go play it
There's rumors of a remake of P3 being in the works, going by a r/gamingleaksandrumors post.
It's remaking FES and not P3P, so the one thing worth it about this remaster would be the feMC route.
Original and FES? BIG YES!
persona 3 portable? Fuck no
Play P3 Reload
🎉
Persona 3 reloaded is good.
should i get p5 or p3
Yes yes yesssssssssese
What the fuck. after hearing about how brutal the save pointing is, there's no way I'll be playing this
Just play on an emulator so you can speed up moments so grinding for exp is faster and you can save at any moment without having to worry.
@@antispiral1159 or I could just play 5 from the comfort of my couch.
@@elahem6940 that is also a good way to enjoy persona.
Yeah, why bother trying to learn the mechanics and intricacies of a given game when you can just play the dumbed down sequel that allows you to be as brain dead as humanly possible.
@@OniLinkBrazil1993 30 minute cut scenes to get into a boss fight isn't exactly a fun or interesting game mechanic. I'm sure I would like the game if I could get into it, but that would be a game ending rage moment for me. It's just games man, it aint that serious
All of them but three are worth playing.
I would say three is worth it but may not be everyone’s cup of tea the game dark Af that might turn some people off I personally liked it but prefer p4 over 3
No lol bye bye
S[ far, the Persona 3 remake has shown signs of woke localization to not upset the lgbt.
They ruined Mass Destruction.
And the voice acting is worse
tye new character models are soulless
That's why I play the switch release on beginner for boss fights
