95 12 valve, my first attempt at the external regulator had my system charging at 16v+..bought a 'variable voltage' regulator..now its all good, turned it down to 14.5+/-...great explanation Rich...thanks!
Catherine, there is a big recall on your new pick up , for the brakes locking up. Especially years 2023- 2024. 20 25 just came out in June or July 2024. Double check for recalls on the 2025. Hope it doesn't Micheal
Hey Rich..Have a blessed week..I knw you ment to say grid heater..The shop you work at the had a lot of Powerstrokes in there fleet & mental muscle memory is hard to break..Lol Thanks for the Info..Have a wonderfull Monday!
As well, when putting back in vehicle - The black box, connecting to alternator at those 2 pins ; The top one - bend outta the way, and tape up Good ! Only requires the bottom wire connection . Good luck, all !
Hey just to let yall know I had a same problem checked the alternator wasn't charging so took it had it checked at the parts store working fine so it's the regulator right so I put the regulator on it still nothing there is a dang fuse in your fuse box it's a bridge from the alternator and the battery just check it first to save you some time
I did this to my d150 and now I have pulsing on the gauge and lighting at idle. I used the power window circuit for my voltage since i have manual windows. Any help with the pulsing would be appreciated.
My electrical guy rebuilt my alternator with internal regulator, told me to tape up the field wires and should be fine. 5.2 efi, runs fine, charging voltage great, but will this drain my battery by not having the ignition switch involved?
I have a 95 Dodge Ram 3500 12 valve and I'm having a no/jumping tack needle. What would cause that. I have a new crank speed sensor or ESS. Help please. It's driving me nutz.
I don't know if you will get back but I have a transpo regulator but which wire is the ignition? Color or on the harness is it the top or bottom one? Thanks....
So in saying that those two wires at around 215 or 210 can go either way he's stating that there is no polarity difference here someone help me out I'm having this problem and I don't know which wire to place into which terminal
I have a 00 24 valve and I tried too run a voltage regulator and it charges too hot and cooks the battery if you could do a video on that one too it would be awesome!!
3rd gen cummins 2003 “check gauges” not charging, tried crossover cable gonna test alternator next and batteries and also the clutch fan is drawing power from ECM/ECU as it has low voltage, any ideas about these 3rd gen wiring and charging problems etc, worth making a video on 3rd gen “check gauges” nothing too clear online about fixing or determining the issue between say crossover cable, alternator, clutch fan wiring, all the grounds and connections etc want to have optimal charging in a 03 3rd gen
So yesterday the ignition switch would key up the voltage gauge sent the message to the PCM to turn on the alternator and the gauge dropped to 8 volts. So my alternator is need of replacement? Thanks, Dave.
Question. I have a 1990 ford f150 xlt lariat. Bout a new battery and a 80 amp. Alternator. The wiring is differnt. Do i just splice the wires and hook it up ? The new alternator has the wires already connected inside. My old one had an adapter having to be plugged into the alternator. If that makes sense
have a 92 cummins that ive changed fusable links cps and all sorts of parts truck is practically new? still no overdrive and A/C etc? what next rich anything would help thank you!
Quick question for anyone that did this conversion. I tested the back of the alternator and got 33 volts out of it is this correct? What am I doing wrong?
Anything else I need to check?? I have done everything I can find on every video and every forum and asked several other people who have or work on Cummins and followed their advice and still can't get a charge
Question: Did this to my 2000 2500 Ram. Amp gauge indicates fine for about 30 seconds or so, then maxes out, check gauge light comes on. Battery voltage is still charging at 14.5 volts. any idea what would be causing this?
did u ever figure this out? having similar issues but haven’t pulled the plug on a external regulator yet, i have a lockup switch and i feel like that’s what toasted the pcm but let me know thanks
BE SURE all your ' ground ' connections, are Godly clean ; then, tighten up good. Very IMPORTANT, as ANY amount of resistance, will cause improper excite current ; for alternator to ' cut in '' cut out '' charging.... .. Yours is probably an A circuit arrangement ; there is a B type, too. Educate yourselves, folks, and save $$
Like how you explained your video.. it was straight to the point, and you made it look so easy.. I've been researching videos on how to install this part, but how they explained was very complicated, but I got my ride running good. thanks to you man, and by the way for those of you who put a thumbs down on this video must be as F*#$.. lol because this was easy to do. Thanks again bro. 🤟
I had a 91.5 d250. Put the Cummins in my excursion. Used the dodge alt. I've replaced the external regulator and the pigtail. One lead to the vr is on a key on relay. The other goes to the field coil. The other wire for the field winding is straight to chassis ground. I get battery voltage to the regulator but it's barely charging if at all. With lights on at night I can go about 40 miles at 70 before the battery is almost dead. I jump the field winding straight to battery voltage and it will charge at 18 volts. Been through three brand new regulators. Any ideas?
I tried the Tranpo internal kit and it worked for about a day. At this point I'm going to bite the bullet and buy a lifetime warranty 1-wire unit from PAPerformance and be done with this.
@Ky Massey Glad it worked for you. I never could get this method to work in my truck and bought a self-exciting unit from PAPerformance. So far, so good.
My 2000 Dodge 2500 24V sometimes waits to long to start charging or once didn't charge at all. On that occasion, on the next start up it was fine. What's up? Thanks, Dave.
So is the voltage regulator only in the computer? I was also told i need a very specific external voltage regulator for my 07 dodge dakota 3.7l which i can't find, would ypu know anything about that?
50 bucks for the external VR????? Ripley2000 speaking here. They are like 20 bucks man lol. Nice instructable and excellent explanation of how to convert over that damn computer vr. The biggest moneymaker leave it to Chrysler lol.
I dualled my 1991.5 by fabricating a two-battery steel base to bolt over and into the original single base. First step -- fabricate a cardboard mock-up, trim to fit.
This worked good , too good . It's charging about 15.8 volts can you send me a switch diagram, this Cummins swap is so close. My kid turned 16 a week ago

I trust everything thing guy says because he is just straight covered in it
💯
I love how every time I am looking for a video on fixing something on my cars I get a DEBOSS garage video!!
I did this to my '97, been working great for a year
I believe I'm having the same problem right now.
Where did you buy your at?
Bought a kit off ebay .... was well under a $100
Yes this works. I just used a 1965 ford mustang regulator and it’s working perfectly now. I struggled trying to fix it for months
Man I love watching your videos, your very knowledgeable and humble.

the Quick Start Voltage Regulator Bypass kit , comes with online printed and phone tech help to solve your charging problem
My Dakota stopped charging, and I got a single wire alternator from the parts store for $50. The light on the dash stayed on, but it charged.

How do you trick the pcm so it wont throw a light and a code for the alternator?
You ever figure it out
Pretty simple ...pull the dash off...you will see some bulbs...remove those....problem solved
It would be nice if he would show where he hooked up the wires.
De-Stroked would be wise to bring you in as a Tech Advisor prior to peddling hacked harnesses.
They would make a lot less money

What about 2008 6.7? Mine wont charge. Alt is good
where did you get that for 50 bucks ??
First and foremost ,check the ASD Relay, if good THEN likely need an external reg..
