  • Christopher Schwarz is to hand tools and hand tool education what Norm Abrams was to power tools. His hand tool research, teaching and publishing is the catalyst for energizing a hand tool renaissance. Several years ago, we visited his home workshop and living room office for “Lost Art Press.” Today he has expanded into a commercial location for the shop, teaching, publishing and tool making in Covington, Kentucky. Christopher gives us an exclusive tour of the “Lost Art Press” headquarters, plus get an up-close look at his Welsh Stick Chair as he tells us many of the lessons learned while spending fifteen years understanding and mastering this unique chair design.
Popular Woodworking Magazine’s Tips, Tricks & Techniques:
David Theil shows how a washer that you probably have laying around your shop can be used to help you draw curves in Popular Woodworking Magazine’s “Tips, Tricks and Techniques!”
    Tool Box:
Spoon carving seems to be THE THING in woodworking today. It takes very little room and not a huge investment in tools and brings great pride in making something of form and function. Highland Woodworking asked me to whittle a spoon with the Morakniv Wood Spoon Carving Kit. See what happens in this episode’s “Toolbox!” and purchase your own here: www.highlandwo...

This is a superb wood working book I`ve ever read, t.co/z6o0f8z2H4 . Both novice and some skilled woodworker can gain a lot of general info using this reading material. I`ve been very amazed how frequently I use this to look up woods at places like to restore and salvage spots.?

35:18 For all the talk about "design thinking" nowadays, that's the first time I see someone spelling out the obvious use-case about "how will this chair serve when the customer's drunk?"

w0w Love his brain , wish I could buy a few of his publications. And maybe y'all should contemplate a Megan Fitzpatrick show too, there's not enough stuff done w/ Fitz, another beautiful mind.

9:26 I'm going to take a stab at saying that may not have been a work bench. Because it's that long makes me think logs were placed on top and worked for large construction. Probably spades acting as braces were placed on the sides.

Its a work bench, a phenomenal work bench. Check out the Anarchist Work Bench a free DL from Lost Art Press released I think after this video was done. Breaks it down. He also uses it almost exclusively to build Welsh Stick Chairs.

7 blocks that way? Don't you have to cross the river to get to Cincinnati?

I find the Lost Art books far too expensive.

Sawstop and ONLY $4000 for a saw . Most of us cannot afford $4000 for a saw.

Who says you need a sawstop? I have a Delta 34-444 from the 1970s. It will do anything needed and I still have all my fingers.

I don't think Americans REALISE how CHEAPLY they can buy things. The rest of the world including CANADA is not as cheap as the lucky but spoiled , unappreciative AMERICANS.
