I've never cut a sidewall in my life riding in the Desert of AZ until I rode this tire. 1st time out I sliced the sidewall on the rear on a brand new tire. Same trail and line I always take with my Maxxis tires. I loved the feel and grip of the 29x2.6 SL but failure the 1st time out made me go back to Maxxis. I still have the tires laying in my tire rack brand new even with the little molding nipples.
Great vid man. My enduro bike has a short rear so I love having a fast rolling rear tire since it carries a lot of weight which adds traction. Been looking at this tire for a while now.
Thanks, man! I'm thinking of trying out the 27.5 x 3.0. MTB no longer sells that size and I love the compliance on my Santa Cruz Chameleon hard tail. I may get 29 rims later when I get into bike packing.
I’ve been using the Honcho 29x2.6” light and supple on i35 rims with Rimpact and Bontreger sealant, as a front. It pairs up well with Maxxis Recon 2.6” in back or Teravail Ehline 2.6” in back. I was thinking of the same thing that you’re doing with a 2.4” Honcho in rear but a durable casing. Thanks for sharing!
@@TheBikeSauce yes, it’s been working well. I also have wider rims than most and with the Rimpact I can set at 18psi, so that really helps on sandy turns.
Cool vid. As a SoCal rider riding the same trails, I had good experience with a DHRII front and a Rekon rear. Also I would not describe the DHRII as lacking transition knobs: although it doesn’t have a distinct "middle" row, the center ones are alternating between wider and narrower ones, and the corresponding edge ones are L shaped, interlocking in a way with the center pattern, unlike for example the DHF that has a distinctly wider continuous gap which might make it a loam favorite, but makes ppl like me uneasy on loose over hardpack.
@The Bike Sauce tried the Dissector too as rear. AFAIK I like the Rekon more. The Dissector is looser than the DHRII but not notably faster rolling and not really lighter.
Professor sauce last year I ordered my Marin headlands one from a great bike shop in utah. They had a great deal to set up my bike with 45 terevail tubeless. But at the last minute I kept it stock with the 40 mm schwalbe g one. I ride too many road sections for those big chunky tires.
I still participate in the Wausau wheelers Monday night gravel rides when I'm in wisconsin. It's hard to keep up and I have to use fast rolling gravel tires to participate.
Thx for the info on new tires, I’m in the market for a new wheelset. Any idea when you will post a follow up on the Hunt Trail Wide? They seem to be the best bang for the buck.
thinking about putting these on my next hardtail build in a 29x2.4 I was looking at the durable grippy compound trade-off for weight for a stiffer side wall, especially on a HT. Do you think that would be the right choice? or could I get away with the light and supple? I've always run Maxxis EXO+ on my HT's so I'm not sure how these would compare.
Another solid review. These tires look great. My favorite tires for socal are the Maxxis Rekon and Specialized Ground Control. Give them a try when you’re in the market next time. If you want to meet up for a ride let me know I have both on my two mtn bikes. Cheers.
Thx. I’ve actually ridden both those tires. Great all rounders as well. Rekons aren’t quite grippy enough for a front in my experience. Many do fine with them front and rear though
Would you still recommend these? I currently have 2.4 DHR II's on my hardtail and they're fine, but considering faster rolling 2.6s that are still able to take to the dry bike park.
I’ve had the honcho on the rear since this video and I still like it a lot. I went to a Kessel on the front and it’s been great so far. Feels a lot like the dhf
I’d say this is a better rear tire, although I’ve gotten quite used to the break point on the front. I might try a kessel the front in the future. If I get my hands on those other tires, I’d be happy to review them
We need more Random Wheelie Fillers!!! Also thank you for explaining how Knobs work! Great Video!

you might consider a grippier tire for the front. Since this video, I bought a kessel for the front. The honcho still makes a great rear.

Nice! You’re finding enough grip in the front?

Was considering that same setup as well.

Nice! Yes, tire choice is certainly very preferential and mostly informed by local terrain.

Out of curiosity,, how are you hanging your bikes in the background of this video?

Sorry, it’s on the list of videos. They’ve been great wheels so far and much zippier than stock
Kessel/Honcho set up is a great combo
Definitely considering a Kessel up front

Would you recommend these on the posiden redwood as a more aggressive gravel bike tire for the more chunky single track trails?
Hi nice review! What's the real width of honcho 2.6 mounted on your frot wheel?
Thanks!

@@TheBikeSauce after trying the honcho/honcho and the Kessel/honcho which is your preferred? Was the weight of the Kessel noticeable?
You should try the Kessell for the front.
Yea I may try it next up front
Do you think better as a rear or front tire? Can you also review the GoodYear tires in this class or Vittoria Syerra if possible.

@@TheBikeSauce Legit, thanks for the reply. Yeah the Kessel looks nice as does the Cumberland.
Mate! You paid full retail and presented an unbiased review? Your doing UA-cam all wrong! :-)
😆 I knew something felt off
Get the delium steady, light. way better
A wheel better be all round.
