Wow!! I don't even think there is a train line in Bayonne other than the Light Rail that goes into Jersey City now. It's something how a line connected to Elizabeth from Bayonne.
I read where the Baldwin baby face Dr 4-4-15 diesels were real brutish pullers with the 608sc engines. Almost 2000 cubic inches per cylinder and 8 cylinders for a total of nearly 16000 cubic inches. The sd90mac h engine takes twice as many cylinders to achieve the same displacement. It was said that the Baldwin diesel engine had ginormous torque and could handle about anything coupled behind it.
Such a Dull dreary paint scheme I wish everything was painted in the very nice Orange and Blue livery like the F-3's hand and even Norfolk Southern seen it this was the best CNJ livery on their Heritage unit, Most of the railroads in the 1960s got a Colorful facelift but CNJ just looked crappy like PRR and then when they paint units later it was a simple and Red and White slash Coast Guard or Santa scheme that was unimaginative and didn't fit the road at all when the Orange & Blue looked fantastic ! All my CNY units are in a "What if" Orange & Blue livery and it looks great.
I agree, the tangerine and blue livery were tops, but really showed the dirt and were expensive to keep shining. Sea foam green with yellow stripes were pretty slick, but again CNJ starved for cash early mid century’s Conrail rescue.
NJ Commuter I started commuting on the North Jersey Coast line & ended with Northeast corridor. Haven't been on either in 25 years & I hear it's worse than ever.
Apparently after realizing those Babyface Baldwins wouldn't Mu with anything else, still found a way to get at least some of their moneysworth out of them. Commendable.
l wasn't born until '72 and became a railfan in '99. These DVDs allow me to enjoy my favorite era of railroading that was before my time.
Great video. Brings back good memories as I was a Signal Maintainer for the CNJ back in the day.
Fantastic video!!! Appreciate the mix of motive power including those dear old Trainmasters
The quality of this video is outstanding. Great work!
Thank you so much! Never thought I'd see a video of a Trainmaster or a Baldwin diesel in operation.
Baldwin Babyface footage is rare alright. But check out Southern Pacific by the Bay. There's a load of Train Masters there
Love the Central RR of New Jersey logo and the music in the background!
Love the sound of Babyface diesels at 1:02 and 2:23! Great!
Once again. fantastic footage! Gotta try and get some of these DVD's.

Ok I don’t understand how the quality of the video could be that good considering the time when this was recorded
0:54. Funny seeing 1553 as 1554 was one number up. Wonder if 1554 makes any appearances? (Just a few minutes after) 1:26 1554 makes an appearance!
The passenger train at RA is definitely an Eastbound.

The massive six-pole Westinghouse traction motors that Baldwin used were also likely a factor in achieving such pulling power.
Notice what you don’t see. Graffiti.
are there any videos of The Blue Comet?
The runaway loco of the late 50s was in this area.

CNY?
PRR really knew how to pull off the black though!
Probably went with what what was quick, and CHEAP! PRR wasn't really black, that was the PC. PRR was dark green. It just got filthy and looked black.
@@b3j8 I sometimes confuse the brunswick green with black lol

Interesting that the ALCO power sounds sort of like GE power, while the Babyface Baldwins sound different, even though they are all 4-stroke diesels.
If I had a time machine....
1:02 locomotive class?
Baldwin DR-4-4-1500, also known as the "Babyface"
it has been explained by the narrator
@voidjavelin23 Thanks
Probably a way better service back then than today's Raritan Valley line......America is 3rd world when it comes to Passenger rail systems.

How did CNJ fare with their Baldwin baby faces?
