    The pack looks amazing! It is very authentic to the look of the original movie packs. If I had this video a few years ago, I would have happily done this, instead of buying a vacuformed shell and all the associated bits and bobs for my proton pack.

    Another great video for a cheap Proton Pack. Though you got quite creative with a number of the brass and angled fittings, there are still a lot of alternate read-made parts that one would find in the plumbing section of a hardware store that work just perfectly.
    Also, if you wanted a more 'true' paint chipping method, you could first paint the entire pack (or just the main areas you need) a silver colour, then use a masking medium like liquid latex or toothpaste to mask off the chipped areas of the pack. Such as along edges and ridges that would get the most wear and tear. Then paint the entire pack black. Once dried, simply rub/wipe the spots you masked and you will reveal the silver underneath. Makes for a more realistic chipped paint look.

    • @LostWax
      @LostWax  2 роки тому

      That's a great idea for the paint chipping, I'll have to give it a try!

    Do you think you could use spray paint or do you recommend acrylic paint?

    • @LostWax
      @LostWax  2 роки тому +1

      I find that acrylic gives a bit more texture, which somehow makes it easier to apply the metallics without getting marks that look like fingerprints. But that being said, I haven't done tons of experimenting with spray paint.

    • @LostWax
      @LostWax  2 роки тому

      I'm not a fan of using regular spray paint, it just gives such thin coverage, it's hard to add the worn silver antiquing on top of it. If you want to spray it, you could use plastic-dip, it gives a rubbery coating that is great. Just make sure to not breathe it in when you are doing it!

      EVA foam is actually pretty durable. As far as shelf life, it'll last for years on a shelf:) The main thing is to store it where it won't get squished, or too hot, ad those will deform it. Other than that, it'll be fine.

    WOW!!! Ok this is amazing and as a HUGE Ghostbusters fan without a pack, this is how I will finally do it. I can't wait to follow the rest of the build. I have the wand already from Mattel and the Spengler’s Neutrona Wand, so I might use one of those instead of building it from scratch.

      Snap!!! I have the Spengler wand too, I just finished cutting out all the pieces and sanded tonight. Glue commencing tomorrow. I may have to use other things for some parts, and I am having major problems finding the pipes for some reason.

    Hey, if you only have an inkjet printer, go get some photo paper and print the stickers. Before you go touching the ink, spray it with a few thin coats of spray clearcoat. I prefer matte clear coat.

    I used foam board for the base on mine 1yr ago. I couldn't fine some hose to hook neutrino wand to until I found foam ninja toys at the dollar tree. The foam handles made a prefect hose after I glued them together. I like you video and it really gave me ideas to build another one. Now you need to build a ghost trap.

    Sticky tack is called kennaratyggjó or Teacher’s Gum in Icelandic
    In Danish it’s called elefant snot or Elephant snot (obviously)

    I’d like the details on your proton pack……. Did you start it off with foam, styrofoam, rubber or?………. I’m trying to build four for me, my wife, my son and my daughter…….

      I made it from EVA foam

  • @lewiscausey687

    Lost Wax, serious question. What is the best method for hardening the foam? A couple of layers of glue and a couple coats of Plasti dip? This pack is my first ever foam build.

    • @LostWax
      @LostWax  2 роки тому

      I don't try to harden the foam. If you put a brittle coating over it and it flexes you're just gonna get cracks. Rather try to have a flexible coating that will move with the foam.

    Do you think I could scale this down “relatively” easily for an 8yo?

    • @LostWax
      @LostWax  2 роки тому

      Scaling this pattern down isn't super straightforward, unless you are scaling the thickness of the foam down the same amount as you are scaling the pattern. This is because a lot of the parts actually rely on the addition of the foam thickness on the edge to make the final dimensions of a piece. If you do some careful thinking, I think it could be done.....
