- At least 45 people are dead and dozens more missing after a dam burst in south-western Kenya. The flash flood swept away houses and cars and came as large parts of the region have already been inundated by weeks of heavy rains.

When you have a tragedy on your hands, you don't hold a meeting. You take action.
Policy makers,hold meetings as technical people continue with rescue.After rescue those people will need,food, shelter, medication etc.
Meeting has to take place , while the other agencies continue with the rescue. God have mercy with his people.

Yes! I noticed the overuse of buzzwords as well. Didn't they set aside funds in November? Didn't they tell us all that rains will endure until April? Then they went back on their word, pocketed the funds, and here we are.
With all due respect to the president of Kenya, you don't hold meetings to decide what to do while you are in the middle of a disaster. The relevant government department should know better to be ever ready prepared and act swiftly when things like this happens,

How should this work? You have to get information about the problems and than you can react. Like knowing how many people are missing, where, how long. Where it's started to flood, how many people needs shelter, food and medical aid and what is going on with infrastructure. To go "blind" into this would be a disaster

If it wasn't for corruption, that clogged tunnel wouldn't have been clogged. Ruto is very corrupt and hides behind meetings instead of stepping up and providing emergency services.
Everything is Ruto is what causes this kinds of disasters. Weather forecast was talking of heavy rains,was no one thinking about uncloggimg the tunnel? They have a local government and even at very local level the wards etc. When people starts taking responsibility and stop pointing fingers,only then will people be safer.

Will someone please remind Ruto that he is the president and that disaster response allows him to circumvent protocols. He doesn't need cabinet meetings he needs to give orders and be at the forefront of this. This one is different...Too many lives lost.

Now this flooding happens everywhere, leaders have to understand stand that nature will always take its cause therefore preventive measure have to be put in place in advance. So that the damage will be little to nothing.

The dams should be illegal in the first place, causes floods where the Nile starts, and droughts where the river should be naturally flowing.
The Nile doesn't start anywhere close to Mai Mahiu. And surprise, a lot of rivers flow in a totally different direction, towards the Indian Ocean...
It is wrong also, it wasn't a dam but a clogged tunnel that was conveniently holding floodwater for years. This is bad infrastructure, not climate change
