When you are incarcerated they supply you with everything you need. They issue you a number(to replace your name) and a pair of slide on shoes.
When you are released they take the shoes but you get to keep your number for life, just in case you come stay again! I thought it was a good idea to write a letter from #170303 to the future me to remind myself that joy and happiness are all in perspective. It’s amazing how loosing it all can make you appreciate all the little things. Cooking a meal, playing guitar, the smell and feel of the one you love. It’s also amazing how fast we can forget that when we have it all again. When I find myself falling victim to this amnesia a quick read of that letter puts things in perspective and gets my needle pointing north.
