Interesting FZD has his edge-tape on the "wrong side" of the racket.... as most use the edge tape only to protect the rubber against hitting the table when chopping over the table etc...
Noticed that too
"Protecting the blade or rubber against hitting the table" is what is done by ordinary players (let's say 99.9 percent of players)... When it comes to professional level, players are sponsored by several suppliers so they have access to free rubbers and blades as many as they want even for daily use... So professional players do not use it as for protection... If you watch Timo Boll's educational videos, he says the amount and location of the edge tape that we use depends on how we want to balance the blade in terms of the weight, friction with air in a particular direction, spin and dwell time of the blade etc for a particular match. It is because when you backhand flip from the middle or forehand side, even the backhand side of the table, you could hit your rubber there lol

@@Wiktorion FZD wasn’t even trying. He’s saving energy for real rivals like the Chinese team members. Ofcourse he didn’t mind if the kid made some points or not. He got the job done 3-0 at 30% throttle!

Not Felix, but a player who Alex said Felix was inspired by. It's because for the penholders it used to be common to only use one side of the paddle. Felix uses both sides though as the technique and the approach has advanced.

If a player uses only one side of the racket, he/she is not required to put rubber on the other side. The traditional penhold grip player typically uses only one side of the racket so it is not unusual to see him/her putting rubber only on one side.
