Likely the builder had a catastrophic health problem, but - wow! - what a beautiful spot! Thanks for showing us. I always have that inward “let’s finish this” feeling when I see something like this cabin.
Bravo Dustin, you did it again. You turned an equipment failure into an interesting story to ponder. You have me sitting here on a Saturday morning wondering what happened to someone's dream. Keep up the good work. Safe travels
I watched that cabin being built in the early 90's, just when I immigrated to the area coming from Germany. Always wondered who owned it and why it never got finished. The area along the Fraser between McAlister and Soda Creek is just spectacular. Only a few kilometers downstream from the cabin was a reaction ferry that operated until the '90's.The high plateau above the cabin is accessible via the Duckworth Lake Road and offers fantastic views overlooking the Fraser and the old Soda Creek townsite.
Yeah the views are fantastic up there, my bro moved up to the Thompson River Estates, his place sits on the bluff over looking the Thompson River & the CP & CN running along the river. Just gorgeous, especially the sun rises & sets. Just not the view(s) of the rattle snakes that view is aweful. 😂 or the prickly cacti if you aren't looking where you step.
WOW! Dustin it would be great if you found out who it belongs too and even better if you took it off their hands and finished it off! Now that would be an amazing renovation series to watch 👍 thanks as always for your amazing content
@@Destination_Adventure I can hook you up with the owner, he's my neighbour. And NOT keen on random trespassers, so you lucked out that day. The reality of this "off grid" cabin is really quite prosaic, it's an abandoned B&B cabin. There was no water found when they test drilled after they started building, and there were some issues with powerline right of way. That's it. (And you missed filming the "Private Property" sign at the start of the trail where you hiked in. That neighbour wouldn't be thrilled to know you were wandering about on their land either, but would likely have given you permission if you'd stopped for a chat.) We're rural out here on Soda Creek-Macalister Road, but hardly in the untamed wilderness! These places are deeded; people own them; just because they're "cool" it doesn't mean "Wander on in."
@@sarahd5341 Fair enough, cute, cleverly shot, though perhaps overly dramatic video, but it's not remote, and the structure is privately owned, on posted land. Just because rural properties are "interesting", it doesn't mean it's okay to just wander across them at will. If this was in your town backyard, in your personal fenced area with a Private Property sign on the gate, would you be cool with someone just tromping around filming your stuff? Even if they were "just looking"? Do you know how much our liability insurance is costing us on these rural properties, and how many reasons there are for us knowing who is wandering about, and what they're up to? Property damage and theft is absolutely a concern of every rural landowner, and we have no idea if the random trespasser is a UA-cam star or a potential thief or vandal. This place is literally someone's backyard. And it borders on my backyard. This is an actively and obviously populated neighbourhood, not some middle-of-nowhere random ruin!
@@cariboo12345 If Dustin had seen a no Trespassing sign, we wouldn't have seen this video. Same as if there had been a fence. That's just the type of guy he is. Not knowing the area Myself, Maybe there needs to be more No trespassing signs out? Maybe closer together?
There is a place like this above my cabin in the Rockies. Started....and so close to being finished. Walked away from it about 3 years ago judging from material receipts on the property. I would say a solid 5 days of work would complete the place. The small cabin has a deck that spans a small mountain stream. Wood stove installed, roof completed, just needs flooring and some finish work. I tracked down the land owners. The former wife of the owner responded. Divorce seems to have killed the dream. I asked her to pass a message to her ex. I offered to buy the place OR he could pay me to finish it up.....anything but let it rot. No response. The place is a paradise...for those without the emotional history. To him, perhaps a horrible reminder of a failed relationship? Anyway...I thought of that place while I watched this video. Motivated me to reach out one more time.
As a journeyman carpenter who has built one floor ranchers in 14 days... I could make that thing livable in a week.. except for the current wait times in Windows and doors.. 🤷
It may have been a short video, but it was so good. I don't know if I would like the boat ride you had or not, but I would give it a try. It's a shame that the person who chose that cabin spot didn't get to fulfill their dream. It would be amazing to sit on the deck every morning with a cup of coffee and enjoy the river and nature. Thank you for taking us with you! God's blessing on you from Proctor Minnesota!
BC has so much beautiful scenery, throughout the Province. The only drawback is that everything from gas to food to accommodations, is so highly expensive. Another Great Video !! Thank You !!
Such a pity it stalled out but it happens so easily. Getting those materials there was difficult. I would guess they were active on site 2005-2008. Sad to see it failed.
Being a gearhead, I spend too much time seeing what my fellow sufferers are up to. What I've been shown is the wide disparity of quality in videography. You, my friend have skill and a great eye. I thank you.
That is a shame. It looked like they were doing a real fine job on the house as well. I am surprised nobody came along before now and finished it up, just for the fun of it. They had all of the time consuming hard part finished. Slap the roof on, put some windows in and hang some doors and it would have been a real TADA! moment. Beautiful lot and view. It does not get any better then that.
That is a wonderful location, I truly hope that what caused the abandonment was not the loss of a loved one. I agree with you, that would be a great place to call home.
The cabin is on a beautiful site ! Just looks like someone’s broken dream! Ready for the next amazing adventure from Dustin Porter, thank you for sharing the stories of your life with us!

When I lived in Saucier Mississippi a young couple built a almost complete home. All that was left to do was windows and interior. After working a year on their days off from their jobs. One day they were going down Hwy 49 and were killed. The property was tied up in Probate Court because they had no Will. When I found out about it the property had been vacant for 5 years I had been told.😢

with the smoke that looks really fresh. Days old fresh. Love the challenge to find this somehow. Very slim clues. 3:50 doesn't even help

Great video per usual Dustin. Question: how long does it take you to edit these? You pump these quality videos out! Great job!
The editing takes time. Far more if there are interviews.
Such a shame it was never finished.
To see a salvageable home/cabin left to rot hurts my heart when housing is so hard to find for alot of ppl.

House looks like the perfect size. When you live in a place like that why stay indoors.
Great Video. :)
Damn. How sad someone just walked away from that. That would have been gorgeous.
Should be DUSTINATION ADVENTURES
Such a beautiful view... in this case youd need one of those houses with floor to ceiling windows so you can enjoy the view from anywhere inside (i know thats not practical heating wise in the winter though)... I wonder what happened to them? And why they never finished...

I wonder if you could get info off those trusses and inquire about them being taken up there and find out who’s place it is.

That house was made for you Dustin but it needs to be nearer to the river to be perfect. Can you do a story on the Seawatch Subdivision in BC?
if you ever consider replacing your dingy...you need to think about a zerojet in an OC tender.
That sure would've been a spectacular place to live. Got to wonder what happened to the builder...
New DA headquarters? Find out who owns that land and make an offer!
Do you ever pan for gold on any of the rivers?
