Hey Nick what are your thoughts on the pakkawood and hap40 delica after 2 years? Still loving it? Thinking of getting one. Would you recommend as a first Spyderco.? Thinking for office edc.
I recently got a used zt 0350st for Christmas. It doesn’t have a sharp tip due to sharpening but when I got it, it was razor sharp. It’s my first expensive knife and I just love it
Makes me really want to buy one... I don't have a delica, only an endura and I love it, but not super in love with the steel, so an upgrade would be awesome. I really want a delica, but am a little worried it may be too small for me. Very tough choice.
Knifejoy has their exclusive now too. Not really an upgraded steel but it is different. Its a VG10 core with Damascus clad and steel blue FRN and the Delica is $94 think the Endura was the same or $5 more. I have the Delica on the way. Never owned a Delica but I have 40-50 other Spydercos. Lot cheaper then the titanium Delica with the same Damascus blade. I think I might order the Knifecenter exclusive too been eyeing it for a while maybe get the Dragonfly or Endura. I know some guys collect every single variation of one specific knife they like. I like to get different models not to many of the exact same model. If I started collecting all of every model I like lol. With all the major retailers having exclusives of the popular models and the sprint runs it could get real expensive fast besides so many of those sprints and exclusives sell out instantly especially if its a PM2, PM3, or Shaman.
FYI. There is indeed a g10 delica with the same liner construction as this wood one. Long discontinued, but they show up on the secondary market occasionally. I've been a huge fan of the FRN delica for ages. It was my edc nearly exclusively for 3 years, and really the knife that started my own knife obsession. Then later on, I absolutely fell in love with the better construction and feel of the g10 one so much when I first held it, that I spent a few months seeking out a second one just in case, since they were no longer made. Pretty sure you'd love that one as well, feels the same as this wood one, but with a nice textured g10. I might need me one of these wooden ones.
The only Delica (featured here) I have and that’s because of you. You wonderful jackass! I’m ogling one in ZDP just because sharpening it is nothing like most make it to be (not hard at all IMHO) and swap the blades for fun! The Endura in plywood ads too much weight in the pocket compared with the FRN versions so I’ll pass. On point review like always! 💎✨
It's so true. I live in Spain. If I was dressed in my usual hard rock clothing and carried a regular Delica and was stopped by the police, they would ask what I am up to! A white shirt and work trousers and the wood version in a leather pouch and I suspect I would just have a few laws reiterated and walk away still with my knife
Hey nick I have several spyderco knives and I’m having the same problem with all of them the pocket clip screws keep coming loose even after using blue loctite any ideas
I just ordered the Knifejoy exclusive Delica with the steel blue FRN and Damascus that is on the way. I guess its VG10 core and Damascus clad. I have a bunch of Spydercos and never owned a Delica/Edura any of those FRN backlock knives. I have been eyeing these from Knifecenter for a while just I haven't been that crazy about backlocks in general but I do like the look. Maybe buy the Endura from Knifecenter. That Damascus and FRN color looked so good together I had to have one. I kinda like the foliage color FRN Damascus one that was I think a distributor exclusive in the past but I think Bentoboxshop still has them but they are $30 or so more then the Knifejoy model same exact knife just a different color FRN so I settled for the Knifejoy one at $94 instead of $128 I think the one is at Bento. I just got a couple backlocks from Spyderco both of the stepped titanium Chaparrals that have been discontinued actually bought 20 Spydercos in the past 5-6 weeks since they discontinued so many I wanted plus I just scored a Lil Nilakka from a member on a Spyderco Facebook page for $150 and I got a grey G10 Shabaria sprint and the S90v carbon fiber PPT sprint and both the satin and DLC CTS-XHP and orange G10 PM3 from Cutlery Shoppe. I keep missing on all the sprints and exclusives so I found that Shabaria and PPT in stock and ordered them then the next day I lucked into getting those PM3s only to find out they took forever to sell them out lol. First few days they dropped they sold in seconds but I guess people are tired of all the PM3 exclusives or something because they lasted a week or so at least the satin version and people have been trying to sell them for $250 when they were still in stock for $140 direct from Cutlery Shoppe lol.
Hey Nick, I recently got a Benchmade 698 Foray and im absolutely in love with this knife. It is one of the hidden gems in my opinion, if you like something with a bit more heft to it. Maybe make a review of that?
Was debating between this and a wood DF2, and decided on the Delica. The DF2 is sweet, but I honestly feel that's it's overpriced at $67. I just can't see paying double that for the wood version, even though the steel is better. It does feel great in the hand, but it's still a tiny knife. I feel like the Delica is more of a "real" knife, which is still a good size for EDC without being excessively large. Long story short, I'm gonna get the Pakka Delica =) Thanks for another nice review, Nick.
I got mine (Delica) right at release time (3-4 months ago???) and the pakkawood looks just like your two. I wouldn't worry. Really enjoy mine too. Great work Nick, as always funny, educational and informative. Not the least bit "jackassie"!
Hi Nick. Though it rare that I ever agree with you on anything, 1) if I were to own but one knife, the Delica could easily be the candidate, 2) the new sprint model is exactly what I would want to have, as I never liked FRN, and is what's kept me from buying one. I too hope that demand will convince Spyderco to put this lovely gem into regular production. 👍
Nick, as far as the pocket clip goes, I know the black painted clips show more wear, but some people like them because the black clips are less noticeable on your pocket, especially when you are wearing dark pants or blue jeans. Otherwise, great review as always. Happy New Year.
Out of curiosity, Nick, what are your thoughts on the lightweight Native 5? I ask because the Native 5 kicked the Delica out of my pocket. It seems to just have a bit more going on (better steel, swedge, same light weight-ish, forward choil, etc.) for only about $10 more.
The price isn't that unreasonable for this knife considering I spent $75 on aftermarket Micarta scales for my Delica 4 and I don't have the upgraded steel or the exposed liners. As far as the uniformity of the wood pattern, this is a problem with these composite materials. I had the same problem with my Spyderco Raffir Noble where the randomness of the materials were such that I returned the knife for exchange and wound up with a similar mismatch.
Anyone know if you can successfully dye the pakkawood? I have seen success stories wit RIT dye and frn scales. I personally think the mahogany looks cheap - and could be downright ugly depending on the wood a la the Benchmade - but a mod to black ‘wood’ scales with those steel liners and silver clip will sell me on it. Much appreciated.
Nicky, you totally ruined me with these delica vids. I truly think the delica may be my new favorite spyderco and possibly knife in general. I bought the s30v version and even before that , had loved my functionality of the ss version but honestly it is a bit heavy in ss. Over the years i have had a love hate relationship but finally feel more love than hate. Enough that i want to start collecting them all. So a big F.U. To you nicky. But also love ya buddy. Lol.
I have quite a few Spydercos, hell I bought 20 in the past 5 weeks lol but never had a Delica. Never been that crazy for back locks is probably the reason why. I ordered the Knifejoy exclusive with steel blue FRN and Damascus that is on the way now. I have been eyeing these Knifecenter exclusives a while. Maybe buy the Endura or Ladybug or Dragonfly so at least its a little different lol. Knifejoy still has those Damascus models if you are interested they are $94 I paid for the Delica think the Endura was $99. Whole lot cheaper then the titanium model with the same VG10 core Damascus clad model that is well over $200 I believe. Bentoboxshop still has the foliage FRN Damascus too that I think was a distributor exclusive quite a while ago but its $134 I think so quite a bit more. I like the color FRN but I am fine with the blue color and keeping $40 in my pocket lol.
I remember I bought a Delica after I watched your video that I asked what's the best EDC and Delica won and I got the sense that the Delica was your all time favorite. When I got it in the mail I couldn't believe how ugly it was and honestly was thinking that regardless of how wonderful the Delica's features it's just a monstrous looking and was wondering why Spyderco doesn't figure out a way of keeping it great while making it beautiful. And then I stumbled upon this video the other day and it took about 2 seconds of looking closely at them to get as excited as a dog in chocolate store. It also occurred to me before listening to more than a 1 minute of this review that this is going to be one of your all time favorites because it took what sounded to me like your favorite knife, and made it stunningly beautiful. I just got mine in the mail today from knifecenter along with the latest Swiss Army knife, which has an absolutely thick and massive walnut handle that feels and looks like your hand is wrapped around a loaf of bread. While I'm rambling, one thing I wanted to humbly suggest is a video of that lists your top 10 gems of all time. I would say top 50 but I know making these videos is a huge effort but I'm grateful for what you do.
Delica or endura? I love big knives and just got a benchmade loco, but at the same time it feels like the Delica is just the right size and shape and the endura is just an elongated version. Like it's meant to be a Delica first. Thoughts anyone?
Nick Myrant Depends on your hand size, pocket carry preference, and if there’s a reason you’d need a smaller or larger blade or not. I like longer blades on a daily basis, carry in my left back pocket (size not an issue as much), and have relatively big hands, so the Endura is my choice. Both are great, just depends on your setup, good luck!
rrp925 gotcha, honestly one of the main reasons I like bigger blades is I feel they fit my hand better and are easier to manipulate too without accidentally cutting myself, like handling a mini griptilian is hard for me to do without it feeling awkward but a full size grip feels SO much better. And like I said I've been carrying around a loco right now since Christmas and that's a 3.68" blade. Larger blades also feel more useful for me. I guess I just don't know how much I'd carry this piece as much and even if the endura handle is thicker or just an elongated version of the Delica.
Pakkawood Spydercos. Who wooda thunk it? I'm going to go out on a limb and say the timber of your voice was affected by the cold. Sorry, I just had to lumber through those puns.
Nick- I love the concept, but that Pakkawood looks really cheap. Looks like something from a middle school shop class. Benchmade pulls off their diamond wood much better IMO. Wood is a great idea, but quality counts.

Damn good thing this is a still-mounted video. If it required a camera person to track those hands, they'd be tremoring on the floor with seizures by the end of it. HaHa
I'm probably stating the obvious, but the higher pricing would seem to not be only a function of the Pakkawood scales; you weren't too specific. I also notice that the clip Spyderco installed has a hole for a lanyard but the scales do not allow for this. Some guys would mind that.
In my opinion, the wood is just as normal as the carbon fiber or the g10. And I know this is heresy to say, but If it's not a volcano grip Spyderco, then its not the normal version Spyderco, and in my opinion, that's perfectly fine
+Nathan Schmoekel I have to agree with you. When I first saw it, I really really wanted to like it. But something didn’t feel right. I just don’t get the “tone” of the knife. I mean “tone” in much the same way that every great movie has s certain consistent (or intentionally inconsistent) tone to it. The regular Delica has a tone (or look and feel) of a very nicely executed utilitarian EDC. But to me, this version doesn’t quite look like pocket jewelry or old timey. Maybe they were trying for a mash-up look of old and new but I don’t get it. Even though this is a superior knife, I actually prefer the aesthetics of the basic model because it has a consistent look and feel to me.
He admitted in another review that he's not skinning any mule deer. So you can cross that off your list. Note that he didn't mention any other kind of deer, so...
I don't get the prices on knives now. A Chinese knife with mediocre steel and plywood scales should cost maybe $50. You can get a titanium framelock flipper with good steel for half what this thing costs directly from China on AliExpress or dhgate. The big name knife companies are ripping people off.
1. These are Japanese, not Chinese. Big difference and the Japan Spyderco’s are some of the best out there. 2. The “plywood” scales are amazing, Imo much nicer than the frn ones. 3. Thesteel is great, better than vg10 4. The steel backspaced is amazing looking.
Kingston73 It might be better than VG10 but that's not saying much. You can get American made stabilized hardwood (ex: walnut) scales for $20. Laminated plywood scales (along with decent steel) definitely shouldn't add $70 to an already overpriced knife. $140 is way too much for this when you compare it to competition with better materials for half the price.
Hey Nick, an extra super silly nitpick, the clip has the lanyard hole cut out with no actual lanyard hole through the knife!
It’s not for the lanyard hole. It is for the pivot screw when you have it set for tip down carry. 🤘🏻
Stuck inside my house because of snow and Nick comes in to save the day. Merry Christmas
"And then I picked up the endura cause I'm a weak man" we all can relate my good friend 😂
Hey Nick what are your thoughts on the pakkawood and hap40 delica after 2 years? Still loving it? Thinking of getting one. Would you recommend as a first Spyderco.? Thinking for office edc.

A great gift James Hutson! Send it on Theapostlep, he'll get that edge/tip right back to better than factory!
The one thing I hate about delicas are the slightly rounded off tips. I had to flatten my spine up to sharpen the tip.
This review tipped the scales for me on ordering the Delica with Pakkawood.
Coughed up my drink when he said "..great Vaseline Factory knife..". I'm so gonna use that at work tomorrow
Makes me really want to buy one... I don't have a delica, only an endura and I love it, but not super in love with the steel, so an upgrade would be awesome. I really want a delica, but am a little worried it may be too small for me. Very tough choice.

Managed to get my hands on an pakka endura in Europe from a second hand market. Truly is a gem.
Yeah, absolutely love mine, the “wood” and the steel liners really improve the knife.
I wonder how cool the edge would look with a forced vinegar patina. Might make a cool katana hamon like finish!
FYI. There is indeed a g10 delica with the same liner construction as this wood one. Long discontinued, but they show up on the secondary market occasionally.

I hope they expand their wood usage to other models in the near future!
I agree. A shaman in this handle material would give me wood.
PM2 in wood scales 🤤🤞🏻
Manix 2 with some sort of wood with many small & tightly formed knots...
Five years later and I have one now. It’s great
They should make a PM2 with wood handles. Not a fan of backlocks personally.
Yes yes yes yes please! 🙏🏻
Hey nick I have several spyderco knives and I’m having the same problem with all of them the pocket clip screws keep coming loose even after using blue loctite any ideas
2 videos in one day? A Christmas miracle!
Can you please review the Spyderco Endela which I'm told falls right between these two?
Will there be a disassembly video?
I just ordered the Knifejoy exclusive Delica with the steel blue FRN and Damascus that is on the way. I guess its VG10 core and Damascus clad. Gorgeous knife, picked up one for the special lady in my life

Oh, buddy. I'm in trouble. Pakawood Dragonfly2. Gave my sister my FRN VG-10 model, so I got an empty slot to fill...
Hi Nick. Though it rare that I ever agree with you on anything, 1) if I were to own but one knife, the Delica could easily be the candidate, 2) the new sprint model is exactly what I would want to have, as I never liked FRN, and is what's kept me from buying one. Happy Holidays! Also, the Chicago screws on your grey frn Delica are in backwards..
From 0:50 to 1:10, hilarious in every aspect. "Because I am a weak man" has never been spoken in a funnier way.
definitely picking one of these up next time they are available!
I have the endura only because they were sold out of the delica. These are really nice looking in person.
Are you going to do the new pakkawood dragonfly?
Nick, as far as the pocket clip goes, I know the black painted clips show more wear, but some people like them because the black clips are less noticeable on your pocket, especially when you are wearing dark pants or blue jeans. Otherwise, great review as always. Happy New Year.

Worth a thumbs up, just for the last 12 seconds.
I am still waiting for them to get that Delica back. I love those wooden sides on there.

Would really look good in desert ironwood or cocobolo.
can we please just start calling it "nick-picking" lmao
"I bought that so HARD!" LOL I love it.
Got the Limited Edition Delica Zome in S30V. Awesome knife!
REPLY
all that wasted handle and tang that COULD be a forward choil. Maybe on D5/E5? Please?
Yo Nick, you should review the Delica 4 with Emerson wave opener.
adriel devanza he's not a fan of Emerson knives or the wave feature.
Is this a Moki creation?
The wood handle delica is back in stock on knife center. $134 is just too much money for a knife for me. Which is sad, that delica is hella sexy.
hope to see a review on that North Fork
Happy Christmas
I want one... but can't justify the price. Wish it was about 100$us...
Pakkawood Spydercos. Who wooda thunk it? I'm going to go out on a limb and say the timber of your voice was affected by the cold. Sorry, I just had to lumber through those puns.
Jesus I really would want a delica. Why they costs so much in Italy :(
Nick- I love the concept, but that Pakkawood looks really cheap. Looks like something from a middle school shop class. Benchmade pulls off their diamond wood much better IMO. Wood is a great idea, but quality counts.
MrGeerbear laminate wood gun stocks are highly regarded and cost more then "real" wood. laminate is stronger, stabilized to chemical, moisture, warping issues. it's a better all conditions material that will last much longer.
It may work well, but I can't get passed how chintzy this wood looks. I've seen Ganzo do wood better. Just really ugly. Thanks for the info.
The Diamond wood is garbage. I had to get rid of my North Fork. Thing had so many edges, absolutely no class
I more favour the endura but damn do I want that delica.
Hope you had a good Mithras! :)
Nice review!!
My girlfriend reacts better to wood also! :)
Groan.
oh
I love the Delica, but I wish Seki would stop installing vertical blade play in every knife I get.
P.S. nothing crazy, but they always seem to rock just a bit up and down.
Hi Pete, I got 3 Spydies from Seki and no blade-play. Weird.
Mark Tudor Darn, I’m 2/2 on Caly 3’s, and 3/4 on Delicas. Looks like I have bad luck:( I do love the Delica with ZDP though!
Peter Galione you’re high
Damn good thing this is a still-mounted video. If it required a camera person to track those hands, they'd be tremoring on the floor with seizures by the end of it. HaHa
Does this mean a crooked river review is in the future?!? Better sell mine before it inevitably gets called huge and murdery.
Wood gun stocks make the rifle less-threatening too.
The wood makes them think of kitchen knives.
Changing the Delica Measurement System standards already? This is not going to help your case before the SI people
I'm probably stating the obvious, but the higher pricing would seem to not be only a function of the Pakkawood scales; you weren't too specific. I also notice that the clip Spyderco installed has a hole for a lanyard but the scales do not allow for this. Some guys would mind that.
Hot Damn that is beautiful looking knife.
I don't need it, but i want it...
I know that feeling well...
Nick Shabazz me, too. I, also, am a weak man! 😂
Sooooo that’s really not wood??
You lost me at plywood! coco Bolo, or teak count me in!
Tactical black = Murderer.
Wood Handle = Carver of marshmallow sticks.
flythesky3000 hahahahahaha 😂👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Black wood scales = Marshmallow Murderer
Iv always said the ar15 should have wood furniture for those scared people🤣
I imagine the enduras that were there are gone now
They have both as well as the Ladybug and Dragonfly now. And their Cru Wear Native.
I'd much rather have this configuration in a Dragonfly 2.
They have the Dragonfly and Ladybug too.
😂 You’re north fork looks a little funny!
I'm so hungry I could eat a lemon
delicas are going for £84 over ere!
Blessed yule
And to you as well!
Nick Shabazz You should do a review on the Delica 4 With the Emerson wave opener.

The illogical aspect of wood making something less scary applies to firearms as well. People are not the most logical creatures unfortunately.
Wood on a Spyderco is as out of place as a pocket clip on an Opinel.
Wood will always look cheap to me :/
Looks like wood, feels like wood, must be a Woody Woodpecker, (buhaha) well I thought it was funny, sorta...
puke 🤤🤪🤢
I doubt you carrying use these knives other than box cutting or releasing a letter from an envelope be honest and you come off a little eccentric
And may I ask what you do for a living?
He admitted in another review that he's not skinning any mule deer. So you can cross that off your list. Note that he didn't mention any other kind of deer, so...
I don't get the prices on knives now. A Chinese knife with mediocre steel and plywood scales should cost maybe $50. You can get a titanium framelock flipper with good steel for half what this thing costs directly from China on AliExpress or dhgate. The big name knife companies are ripping people off.
Nayr747 do you think this knife is made in China?
1. These are Japanese, not Chinese. Big difference and the Japan Spyderco’s are some of the best out there.
2. The “plywood” scales are amazing, Imo much nicer than the frn ones.
3. Thesteel is great, better than vg10
4. The steel backspaced is amazing looking.
is there any other gun guys who watch shabazz? laminate wood is highly regarded and considered the best mix between real wood and synthetics.
MrRPM110 Ok not China but not made in America is the point.
