We're back! It's been a long time coming, but now I'm ready to show you what's next! We're going to be doing a lot more original interviews with professional screenwriters, so we can actually get to the good stuff. What film or screenwriter would you like to see featured on the channel?
Would love to hear from Robert Eggers, creator of The Witch, The Lighthouse and Northman.

Ooh, great idea.
Sooo good to see you back!!
Kenneth Lonergan! Park Chan Wook! Ryusuke Hamaguchi!
The best part about this movie is how little dialogue is in it. It’s a fantastic film. Loved Gosling’s character.
It's incredible honestly
Showed not told
So many of my favorite films have lots of silence. I think the mark of a great filmmaker is the ability to use sound as a tool, not a crutch.
I read one of the drafts and I was surprised to find that it was more wordy than the movie. Whole lines of dialog were omitted in the shooting draft. That's when I appreciated more the direction of this movie
If nothing else its a silence is a nice brake from most other films.
Drive left a huge mark on me. I bought the same watch as the driver, I listened to the film playlist countless times and through it I discovered many talented artists. I wanted to be a badass like him 😂
🎵 _A real human being and a real hero_ 🎵
@@BehindtheCurtain Still listen to this song very often, definitely one of my favorites
@@BehindtheCurtain *bean lol
The watch he wore in the film was a fake Patek Phillipe, it doesn’t exist .
Real human bean
Oscar Isaac was masterful as Standard. He had such a small role and had to convince you he was actually a good guy.
“You know, we're here celebrating but it's a shameful thing... what I did. And I have a lot of making up to do to everyone. But second chances are rare. Right? And that's worth celebrating.”
Gosling was amazing in this. One of his best roles or at least one of my favorite characters he's portrayed. Driver and Officer K from 'Blade Runner 2049'
He has a sublety that really works. My personal favorite performance is Remember the Titans though hahaha.
@@BehindtheCurtain OHH YEAH, he was in 'Remember the Titans' Hahaha I completely forgot about that one!
Yeah driver and officer K are both my favourites from Gosling
I literally just watched this movie again yesterday. Such a great film.
Great timing then!
Please please please please please please please continue making this series. THERE IS NOWAY I get content like that in Portuguese. We from other countries NEED this.
THE SHOW MUST GO ON. Thanks for the love :)
Love the bit about writing in pauses in the dialogue. Even just that adds to the existential atmosphere of the film. Inspirational work, Hossein!
Super helpful! Thanks for watching
Oh, my God, literally last night I looked back on your channel and was like… They haven’t post in a while, I hope they come back soon… That’s a pretty good timing lol
Ay, just in the nic of time. Yeah, expect more to come!
Excellent, can’t wait to see them
Absolutely brilliant. Loved the insights you got from Nicolas. Long time fan of the channel and of course the legend behind my favourite movie trilogy "Pusher 1, 2 and 3". Definitely a recommendation for anyone who wants to see some of Nicolas' early work. Each part focuses on Mads Mikkelsen, Kim Bodnia and Zlatko Burić different roles in the drug trade in Copenhagen.
One of the most important videos i have ever seen in UA-cam thank you Hossein and Behind The Curtain, this was the perfect enlightenment interview for me it was fantastic.
Just stumbled on your channel recently and I have to say that your content is just phenomenal. So stoked that you're back at it, best luck with these really interesting deep dives into writing!
Welcome aboard! There's a lot more to come!
From 2011 for almost 10 years this was the best movie I had ever seen in my life changed the way I look at movies forever

Glad you enjoyed it!
Welcome back! ❤❤❤ I missed these uploads so much.
Glad to hear. Me too. Thanks!
Nehemiah! You're back! Love to see it mate, can't wait for the future of this channel!
This is a bit of an odd request, but I'd love to see an interview with screenwriter David N. White, who's worked on a lot of DTV action movies (mostly for Isaac Florentine). I wonder how restricting writing for such a specific genre can be, especially because I think he still manages to fill the films with thoroughly memorable one liners and character beats.
Whatever the case, just glad to see you again!
Hey man. Yes, happy to look into it! Glad to know you stuck around. :)
Thank you for making this !

This film inspired a generation of men and helped start the vaporwave movement. It also inspired me to do storytelling.

Such a great film. I saw it at least twice at the theater when it came out.
Jealous! I never got to see it in the theater

Really really good video... as per usual!
Thanks for following along!
Hey, man. I really enjoy your work. A great comeback video. I’d like to reach out to you and talk about screenwriting and get your opinion on few things. I was wondering where can I reach out to you properly. Hope next video will come soon.

Loved this, so insightful! Glad you're back!

Thank you for posting
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video. Really enjoyed it. I am old, so I have a long memory of cinema. When I saw the movie, and I loved the movie, it struck me that it was a modern day version of the 1981 Michael Mann movie "Thief" starring James Cann and Tuesday Weld . Add in the "Drive" element, but the essence and core is very similar. Not a lift, but parallel mood and message. If you like "Drive" then you should watch "Thief". Both great movies. The lone wolf.
I've had it in my queue for a long time, now I'll make sure to watch it. I love Michael Mann.
Welcome back.
Hey thank you!
Drive has a nice Soundtrack too. A Real Hero by Electric Youth plays a big role in this film through several scenes. It's a cool little Electro-pop synth wave group, please check them out
as far as the film goes, I think it's a bit underrated, nobody seems to acknowledge its existence 10+ year later.
Really love the artistic blend of visuals, soundtrack dialog and action in Drive. Great film.
8:15 I just barely realized that Driver was talking about himself in this scene. He's a good shark. A vicious predator who uses his talents to protect the innocent.
Exactly!
you guys are finally back
Finally!
Welcome back! ❤🎉

Oooooh shoot, look who is back to longer form content! I have been watching the shorts, but you've surely been missed in this arena!

Drive was my favorite film of that year. It’s pretty much a perfect film.
Agreed
wowww missed this channel a ton

I saw Drive three times in theaters. I'd have happily gone to see it more. Such a great film.

UA-cam is telling me you've been subscribed for 3 years. I appreciate you sticking around! Great things to come.
Such a great movie. V interesting vid. X
Some scenes and camera shots in "Drive" reminded me of "At Close Range".
Interesting! I haven't seen it. Would you recommend?
@@BehindtheCurtain Yes, I believe it was a 1986 crime/drama film (based on true events) by James Foley about a son (Sean Penn) connecting with his criminal notorious dad (Christopher Walken). Their acting is great (in my view). It has some other good actors (not well known at that time), and a handfull of memorable scenes. The score is haunting, with the theme from Madonna's "Live to Tell". The movie is not perfect, but still very underrated (in my view)... and definitely worth seeing or doing a video about. ;-)
BTW, there are numerous other movies and series I would love to see your view on: Donnie Darko, Annihilation, True Detective S01, Devs S01, True Romance, just to name a few of my favs... and Kubrick... he is still a rabbit hole I haven't found the bottom in.
I have a video on True Detective S01 actually! It's one of my personal favorites. I have 1 video on Kubrick, but there's definitely a lot more to cover. Thanks for the recommendations!
You can tell. Just under the surface, that character.. that there's something lurking behind his eyes. Freaking awesome movie.
Yessssir
If you like the movie, be sure to pick up the book by James Sallis.
Admittedly, I didn't even know it was a book before interview prep. Will definitely have to check it out.
The elevator scene…that alone solidifies the tone… great film
Nicolas Winding Refn said it best: "muscular"
THE SHOW GOES ON
YESSIR. Good to be back.
Very well done film.
Isn't it great when people care about the work they do? With Drive they even make it look easy.
This was a great video one writing and how to adapt a book
Glad you enjoyed it.
@@BehindtheCurtain Yeah If you could let the writer know I learned a lot from him and he inspired me to read the book not sure they care but there it is
a modern day masterpiece in my opinion
I just discovered your channel. You uploaded this video after more than 2 years, and I wanted to ask if you were working on any personal film project or just weren't uploading for any other reason. Just curious.
Mix of both. Working on a couple of projects. :)

Loved the video! What song is this please @1:00?
My favorite movie ever
Welcome back!!
It's so nice hearing that notes aren't only awful
Ryan Gosling had a cool vibe for sure, even mesmerizing, but I'm amazed at how many people can be inspired by the character. The ending of the movie to me was about the triumph of a psycho killer. I was left with mixed feelings, and maybe I should watch the movie again, but it definitely didn't make me wanna be the guy.
The ending is not his triumph as a psycho killer but rather his arc from a killer to a real human being who cares for other people
@@LuisSierra42 I probably didn't get it. I'll watch it again soon.
@KC he's not meant to be aspirational. Not all protagonists are meant to be role models, a story can be about anybody, good or bad and the driver here was obviously a bad guy
No you get it, people who got inspired by this movie are incels with daddy issues.
Lovvvvvvvve this movie

Return of the King.
Hahaha thanks for sticking around 🫡 What would you like to see on the channel next?
What was that song in the beginning ?
What is that intro music please?
What music did you used for the video?
Mostly from Epidemic Sound
The fake car shifting sounds never matched what was happening on the screen in the silver Impala scenes
many kids dream that one day they'll be saying "literally me" referring to this story, kid no more, a stoic man
How come you changed the naming style of the videos? I think you were on to something with the "How I wrote X" format.
No sleezy 6 scene..warmth..freinds..respect..loyalty..street justice..A Gret Movie..
Someone should have told him that you can't crash a car head on into another one and have the car headlights survive as they did in Gosling's car when he broadsides the baddie's car over the beach cliff (he also rear ends the baddie's car earlier and still his headlights remain functioning = ridiculous). Nor can a car actually go very fast in reverse. Other than that and the fact that Gosling oddly leaves the million bucks behind in the last scene the movie was quite good.
Except when Standard gets SHOT, [That's real loud]. Best, D.
Haha true
Aftersun next please
Added to the list!
Greatest film of all time.
Well, I am glad that Ryan changed the scene where he and Standard met. I liked the story and I don't mind bad guys getting killed, but the gore is just too much and distracts from everything. I am sure that was Refn because he revels in gore.

Love this film , my favorite of the 2010’s - too bad he will be in Barbie- what you doing Ryan?
We shall see. I don't think Barbie will be similar to anything else. See the teaser trailer for reference. Kubrick/2001 references in a Barbie movie??
@@BehindtheCurtain you’re right, it’s not good to assume. I just think he’s at the time to make a legacy of great acting credits, the money grabs like DeNiro come later. Hope it’s a surprise- acclaimed Director so could be
Next time have the courage to interrupt him early and say "Sir, please fix your mic, I want to make sure we have good quality sound because this is great stuff" --
Thanks. It didn't sound like this on the call. The recording was corrupted unfortunately.

Got me one of the original Henley's Ryan wore in the film from the movie set. I wonder if it's worth anything.

Hahaha thank you brother
I kinda hate the incel ethos around this movie, but it's still incredible. Its paced like a slow burner but I stay engaged every time I watch it. It feels a lot like Blade Runner 2049, in a way that the cinematography and actions of the characters say so much that dialogue isn't always necessary. Amazing flick
Ryan Gosling is literally me FR
'You know, that Camus style crime novel.' No I don't know at all, Camus didn't write crime novels.
Call me a pleb all you want but that movie needed one more chase/driving scene, not a big finale just needed a bit more, it kind of just fizzles out at the end.
