When my son was a little boy, I planted 4 citrus trees. At a family lunch, a relative mentioned 'the traditional method' of watering lemon trees & as a little boy he found it all very amusing, but never mentioned it again. Some years later, out in the back yard I pondered out loud about why our lemon tree was nearly 3 times the size of the other 3 sad little citrus trees that it had been bought, planted & grown with. My son informed me that he'd been nipping outside regularly to test 'the traditional method' on the lemon tree ever since he was little & it works.

Me and my 5 kids have been collecting our urine in large yogurt containers everyday for the past month. Not only are our vegetables growing at a fast rate but even those that were on the verge of dying due to poor soil conditions are now THRIVING! You have to see it to believe it :)

When you say “collect it” do you mean use daily whatever the family makes? Or can you actually store urine for that long or any length of time? The author of the video say fresh urine and I know that it is sterile when leaving the body but corrupts shortly afterwards. So how long is TOO long???

@@annalisa6135 Storing/aging urine results in greatly reduced nitrogen due to microbes and stuff breaking it down, transforming it into a fertilizer with around 1-1-1 NPK ratio.

When i was a kid my neighbors used to have a sunflower growing competition every year. The two brothers used to compete, but one brother kept on winning ever single time. The younger brother urinated on his brothers sunflower to stop it growing. It grew so big it ended up in the local newspaper. My dad (the neighbor) had 10 foot conifers as a fence and it stood taller than the conifers.

Last year someone who shall remain nameless weed eated my beautiful clematis plant! I was devastated! I had read about using urine as a fertilizer and decided to try it. I used a 10 to 1 ratio of 10 parts water to one part urine. I watered the clematis first, then I used a 1 gallon container with the 10 to 1 mixture. I did this once a week for 3 weeks. After a little more than a month the clematis was as big as it was before! I plan on using it more this year because I refuse to pay the fertilizer prices that are out there now!

My partner and I keep a bucket of wood pellets, the kind used in hamster cages etc, next to our toilets and we layer our pee with the pellets... add some pellets, pee on them, add more pellets. The pellets absorb the pee, there's no odor and the carbon in the pellets helps balance out the nitrogen. We use it as top dressing and compost ingredients.

You should do a video from planting the seed to harvesting and cooking the final product. It will take at least 6 months to make that one episode, but I think it is perfect. You may want to mix up some time lapse footage into it. I think that is a worthy video for you to make. Spring time is approaching, so I think this is the best time to start making it. It's use as a bleaching agent is mentioned in Samuel Pepys diaries in the 17th century. Hope you and Granddad are fit and healthy now. Have a good growing season.

I can see why someone would freak out if it is put directly on a food product. It is after all human bodily fluids. You generally don’t want that on your food, regardless of how much stuff ends up on your food from major food producers that is actually worse, most people generally don’t like to hear about it.
If someone does freak out, tell them what the big food companies use as fertilizer or maybe something else natural that is grosser. The deer sometimes attack my cucumbers. So technically there could’ve been an animal slobbering on them before picking them. I usually wash my fruit before eating.

I've heard similar stories from the aborignals here in Australia with mothers and their sick childs poo... but the idea is that if you are ill with a disease you drink your urine, preferably the first in the morning, the urine has the properties in it that you need to actually cure what is going on inside you.. also i've heard if you wash your hair in it you can help cure baldness!

I fertilize my lawn twice a year. Once in spring and once in fall. Best looking lawn in neighborhood by far. I believe the potassium (which is absent in commercial fertilizers) makes a significant contribution. I just dilute 80/20(four gallons water and 1 gallon of urine). This translates to a concentration of 20% urine, or one-fifth. Easy to do with a five-gallon bucket. I use a pump that I purchased at Great Northern Tools and a 32 gallon plastic bucket to spray it on. Works great.

We've had dual flush toilets here in Australia for over 30yrs now. In recent years, due to our almost constant state of drought, they became compulsory in all new builds along with rainwater collection tanks & some other stuff. Owners of older homes, aren't expected to replace older toilets that still work, but all homeowners pay for the excess water they consume & past the basic amount, that excess gets passed onto rental tenants, too. Many people with older toilets just place a house brick or something similar inside the cistern to displace some of the water volume & prevent it from refilling again. It saves money over many flushes, maybe that's something you could do for Granddad, providing the unit is functioning ok? Another thing I do to save water is use naturally grown soapnuts instead of detergent in the washing machine, so there's no scary chemicals in the grey water & I divert that water onto my non-edibles & trees to re-use it instead of wasting it down the drain.

@@bobmcdermott9535 That scary Northern Hemisphere Summer that has just passed, is completely normal & everyday to us - while we suffer historical & previously unrecorded winter rain & flooding atm, we remember almost non-stop heat & drought for most of the last 40yrs. You can't let anything mellow when your summer temp has increased to nearly 50degC/122degF & overnight temps of 30degC/86degF for days on end. In a climate where homes never really needed proper heating, the building industry standard has been to build homes in simple brick veneer (stud walls with 1 external layer of bricks & internal walls of unplastered Gyprock plasterboard on the studs). After 4-5 days & nights without a temperature drop or cooling breeze, most people haven't slept for days, so letting anything mellow would not only be stinky & unpleasant, it would be unhygienic at the very least.

You forgot to mention that urine can't be stored for a long period. You can store it in tightend bottles for about two weeks. But I find that a 1.5 litre bottle of urine is just the right amount for a 10 litre watering can, and this is used on the flower beds everyday gives a really lush growth. But thank you for the info about the amount of NPK there is in ordinary urine.

To my amazement, every rose bush rewarded me with an abundance of flowers. I do not intend to use my urine on anything edible. Great video! You really did your research! Modern society has turned us against natural things and makes us think we need to spend money on everything which is really sad! I always thought urine was a good fertiliser because when my dog was alive he used to pee in certain areas of the garden, the grass would die but the area around where it was more diluted the grass was really lush and green! What ratio would you recommend for lawn feed? 10:1?? Thanks 👍🏼

Great video.👍 The key thing is to normalize this style of living.🤔 Between recycling urine and composting toilets. And biocompatible soaps. Gray water can be recycled whether it's Reverse Osmosis/RO. And the remainder of gray water can be used for the garden. 🧐
Side note. The other day I learned that you can make fire logs out of animal manure.💩 Just more ways a farm can be self-sustaining.
Kind of an irony to it. Cows eat the grass. You enjoy the milk and the meat. And then the unnecessary levels of manure are turned into a heat source for the winter. 👍
