I noticed that a worker was fanning in the area where you released the virgin queen. That is normally a good sign of acceptance. Now, I'll start the video again and be proven wrong, I suppose.
yes....treated for 6 weeks this spring with Apivar strips. I used MAQS last year....had devastating affect on my colonies....dead bees and queens quit laying for a couple of weeks....
Kevin McMahon I’ve used oxalis acid 3 times this year and will do a 3 week treatment next month. I bought MAQS but I’m going to wait till about November when it cools down a little I’m afraid of it. Hope you winter well.
@@KevinsNorthernExposure I never give out virgin queens and I also mark them. I asked a lot of club members how the queens that I made did and no one had over wintered them just a few guys near me that treated for mites at the right time have the queens this year. If that doesn't improve soon I'm done sending them off to their death.
@@danschneider9219 yeah......club was out of mated queens..... I like that I'm able to have them mated in my own yard with a mix of my overwintered queens, Sask and MN Hygienic.
Kevin do y’all have bears? Also I’m raising queens out here in Northern California. You ever do a queen swap? I’ll send you one and you send one to me? Trying to just keep on top of diversity
yep...we have bears.....I appreciate the thoughts on trading...trying to develop a Wisconsin winter hardy breed....North Cali doesn't fit in that plan right now. Thanks though.
oh.....the emerged cell......have heard that giving them the emerged cell increases the likelihood of acceptance.....not sure how much validity there is to it, but it doesn't hurt.

Yes, a number of workers are fanning - a good sign they are spreading her pheremones throughout the hive.
both queens are fat and happy and laying now.
Have you treated your bees for mites yet Kevin and have you used mite away quick strips

Great way to start. Bang the cover on the frames. Lol
queenless colonies don't have much to defend....they don't get as agitated....as you can see in the vid. Just saying.
Kevin, what's the smallest nuc configuration you've successfully carried through winter in our part of the country, I'm in Amherst Junction.
5 frames.
And I make the effort to mate and mark the queens I make. hope they get mated and return.
Did I miss something? you seemed to have started in the middle of a thought or a sentence...was there a part left out?

Hi. Why did you put the queen cell to them?
I'm a little lost. Why did I put what queen cell to them? I put virgin queens to them.
@@KevinsNorthernExposure I'd have to watch again but I think you put the cell that she emerged from in the hive
